I have a 2004 Grand Am SE1 Sedan with a 3.4L V6 automatic.
The sticker says it gets 29 miles to the gallon on highway, but I get about 34. I love this car!
It gets up to speed very quickly. It has a wider body and wider tires thus it has exceptional handling on curves and in the rain. Ever since my 77 camaro, I've loved to push my vehicles on curves and at stops. This car performs really well in these tests. In my opinion it does miles better than my husband's honda accord ever did.
The interior I got was cloth and it's held up well considering the kids and dogs that ride in the car on occasion. The upholstery is easy to clean with a vacuum and a portable wet vac. The long dog hair, i.e. from a husky, requires, at times, tape to get it off the upholstery. But other than that it's easy to clean.
I have put over 75k miles on the car and have yet to replace the tires, spark plugs or wires, any pumps, or any belts. The only maintenance I have had to do is checking the air filter and changing the oil and filter and brake pads.
It still runs just as good as the day I bought it, if you can believe that.
I got the optional sunroof, monsoon mp3 system, with power windows, power locks, and power driver's seat height adjustment. I love all of these options and have never had an issue with them or any of the electrical components of the car.
I found the seats in this car to be much more comfortable for me than the toyota, honda, ford or subaru models. I tested all of them out before hand because I make a lot of road trips through out the year and wanted to make sure I would be comfortable driving and riding for long distances in the car.
This model and year was even rated a "Green Car" by Mother Earth News magazine.
Overall this is a reliable, attractive, car that can perform when you need it to. If you are merging onto the interstate and have someone driving 45 miles per hour in front of you, this will easily give you the pick up you need to pass and to manuver. I've used it many times in Atlanta traffic and it has never failed to please me.
