The breakthrough Sigma SD9 camera features the FOVEON® X3TM image sensor which is the world's first image-sensor that features three layers of photo detectors. The layers are embedded in silicon to take advantage of the fact that red, green and blue light penetrate silicon to different depths allowing full-color to be measured at every pixel. The layers are positioned to take advantage of the fact that silicon absorbs different colors of light at different depths, so one layer records red, another layer records green and the other layer records blue, This means that for every pixel on a FOVEON® X3TM image sensor, there's actually a stack of three photo detectors, forming the first and only full-color capture system.

Best Value in Digital SLR's
Pros: unmatched image quality, rich color, images scale well for poster output Cons: noise high at ISO 400, AF too slow for sports, no built in flash Bottom Line: Will give any Nikon or Canon a run for their money
Pros: Image quality, resolution, sharpness, price of camera, lens selection, X3F technology, battery life Cons: Lowlight noise, anything other than iso 100 isn't great, but that's it Bottom Line: Foveon Technology and the SD9
Pros: 10.2 Megapixel resolution, natural aesthetic to the images, Excellent build quality, AC adapter for indoors Cons: Not for low-light, iso 200/400 are noisy, Requires two sets of batteries Bottom Line: Needs improvement
Pros: Very Sharp images. Excellent for capturing solid objects. Foveon Chip Cons: Not recommended for portraits. Only saves to raw format. Yellow cast on images. Great images
Pros: Images with fantastic detail Cons: RAW only, white ballance issues, poor integration with flash. SD9 needs to have more then just a raw image format .
Pros: When the images come out they are beautiful and sharp when shot at 400. Cons: This camera is only capable of shooting in raw format which creates less images. |
