LLBean makes the customer pay return shipping for an exchange.
I ordered a skirt from LLBean that was too large. I exchanged it for a smaller size, but had to pay $6.50 to return the first one. When I received the smaller size it didn't fit either, so I paid another $6.50 to return that one. So, basically I spent $13.00 to try on 2 skirts. It doesn't seem worth it. There are many other online retailers that offer free returns or free exchanges. I will not shop LLBean again.

Expensive and sizes often not correct or consistant returns are accepted but do not really want to be sending things back and forth would not use again

Worst customer service ever. Today I spoke with "Donna" - asked a simple question: Will my items be shipped by USPS (Postal service) or UPS. She was so nasty that I cannot believe she works at such a reputable company. I'm really disappointed, and I don't know if I'll ever order again just because I don't want to have to call and have awful Donna pick up the phone. Terrible. She wasn't paying attention to anything I was saying and then got upset at me when I had to repeat myself because of her negligence. Just bad experience overall.

I ordered boots from LL Bean a week and a half ago.Seven days ago, I received an e-mail stating that my boots had been delivered, which was interesting because they weren't.Then two days later, I received another e-mail saying that my return had been processed, which was interesting because I never requested a return.When I wrote an e-mail to an LL Bean representative, she said, "You refused the order."(Mind you, she replied only after two days of silence.)I replied that I did no such thing.I still haven't heard back.
Perhaps it'll be another two days.

I purchased a pair of boots for $180.00 plus tax that L.L. Bean claimed to be 100% waterproof, two months later we had a huge snowstorm in Virginia, these boots are far from waterproof, working for the state outside my feet were sopping wet, after three days of wet feet, I had time to go back to the store in Tyson's corner I spoke to the so-called manager, and she said there's nothing she could do for me I should try Kmart or target,(this is because she was incompetent and she did not order a enough boots in my size(which is 13) since L.L. Bean had my $180.00 I was not able to go a Kmart or a target, to buy a pair of boots L.L. Bean had my money and I had leaky boots. I had to go back to work for the next four days, with boots that leaked, L.L. Bean claims 100% satisfaction guarantee. So what is their guarantee ? I am not satisfied at all, this store claims to be an American store, I do not see it, the owners of the store have let their family name down, the sooner the Chinese take it over the better.

Ordered these boots and got them in good time. Disappointed that they charge so much for shipping. Then, of course, the boots didn't fit properly. Fit the foot ok but way to much heel slippage despite trying different sizes. So I returned them. Asked for a credit to my card and thus began the long drawn out wait for my refund. They issued me a check instead of the credit card refund I asked for and by the time the check arrived I had left for my next job. So I spent 6 weeks trying to get them to correct their mistake. Once they finally admitted their mistake, it took 3 weeks to get a refund on my card! I used to love LLBean but after this disaster, I will shop elsewhere. I waited 2 months to get my refund and it actually cost me $20 in shipping charges back and forth not to mention my time and numerous phone calls. LLBean should be embarrassed at how they handled this situation. I used to love them, but now I will shop elsewhere. I never even received an apology for all the trouble I went through.

ll bean is only a 5 hour drive (freeport, maine) from where i live (providence, ri). i ordered the item on friday-jan 30 and 7 days later. i have STILL not received my item. customer service was not especially helpful. when i called to find out where my package was. their response: "all we can tell you is that it shipped out. we dont know where it is b/c we dont put a tracking number on items shipped free of charge. it may take up to 14 days to get to you. call back in two weeks if you have not received it."

I ordered my Christmas present December 9th. It said that it was shipped December 12th. I still have not received this package. It is Friday December 26th today.The customer service representative told me my problem was that it didn't go the "regular" LL Bean shipping because I chose the "Free Shipping" option. All of my other products (from other companies) were delivered before Christmas. None of this was explained to me when I ordered the gift. I do a lot of online shopping, and Free shipping is an important factor. I will not be ordering from them again.

I have been a L.L. Bean customer for 25+ years. They have some nice products and good customer service.
I have been disappointed, however, that their selection in certain areas has dwindled. They used to offer a lot more ladies casual dresses and skirts, and now might offer two dresses and less than a dozen skirts.
I like to order their towels for gifts and have them monogrammed and shipped. This is a good way to send a gift.
I also think that they offer less on their sale pages than they used to. I would like to have more sale items to choose from.

My story is simple I have purchased things on and off from LL Bean for over 15 years and have seen a gradual decline in performance. Usually, it involves their running out of stock in certain items. Just today, six days before Christmas, I received a package I ordered on-line two weeks ago. The order had been for a sweater (as a gift); I received a pair of pants. I called to correct the situation and was told they were out of the item I ordered, and there were no plans to order more. Basically, not only were they late with delivery, they delivered the wrong item, left me no time to correct the situation, and no longer carried what I wanted. Thats Customer Service!

I sent two emails about a two year old raincoat which was no longer waterproof and got no response. I then tried their instant chat and was basically told that they had no record of my order. Then they said that it was from washing the coat too many times. When I told them I had never washed it they said that I should wash it and put into the dryer to make it more waterproof! Huh? Then they said they could sell me a spray for $14.50 to use on the coat and finally, grudgingly, said I could return it if I wanted. I was not impressed.

I live in Japan. I ordered 2 Win Breakers and a Rain Jacket from L.L.Bean. I ordered these by Fed Ex but without notifying me L.L. Bean shipped them by INTL AIR. I was planning to use one of these for a trip I am going on next week. I called L.L. Bean and they just said there is nothing we can do. No explanation on why they changed the shipping method either. Also they said if you don't want it just refuse it, which is what I guess I will have to do. Now, I windbreaker-less for my vacation. What happened to L.L. Beans service level? What a waist of my time.

If an item is on back order you are informed so you can decide if you want to wait. I have always received exactly what I have ordered.
