I am sitting on a New Jersey Transit PACKED with commuters bound for NYC, and trying to get a little online work done using Cingular's 3G data card. FRUSTRATED is the only polite description I can give of myself right now. For a carrier that touts itself as having the fewest dropped calls, their data service is horrendous.
Hey Cingular management, here's a clue- commuters WORK on the trains!!! Why don't you get traffic counts from NJT and compare it to some commuter roads for cost justification to build some sites to cover the train lines??
First off, you have gaping holes in basic footprint coverage, especially on the Morris&Essex line, so guess what??.... even your Edge performance sucks.
Secondly, tell the engineers that defined your UMTS footprint roll-out that the 3G traffic is not just in the urban areas, it's in the suburban as well... and one more time COMMUTERS WORK WHILE THEY ARE ONE TRAIN!!

I was with AT&T when cingular took them over. Shortly after they took over I couldn't get any reception in my area. It was spotty at best. When I called about it they said it was because of trees blocking the signal. When I explained I didn't have that problem with AT&T they had no response. Since their service was useless to me I just switched to T-MOBILE which I'm happy with. Their customer service is terrible. They don't even make an attempt to solve your problem.

Really bad experience. Online store doesn't work on server side, a lot of lies about service (which supports the already known fact of cingular's false advertising) and many bad things in hard-tofind small print. NO EMAIL CONTACT at all, even though the site has a section "contact us in email", there's no address or form and the reps tell me "unfortunately you cannot email us". I recommend Sprint or Verizon online stores.

Stay away from Cingular at all costs. I experienced routine drops outs and line problems. The "free" LG phone I received was terrible and they would not allow an upgrade unless I signed a 2 year extension - so like a fool I did and added another 3 lines

My relationship with Cingular was a shotgun wedding. They bought out ATT, which had provided several years of very fine service. The writing was on the wall when they kept sending me offers to "upgrade" my service (i.e., pay more for something I didn't want). The wall started to crack when they started adding exorbitant fees, claiming that it was to help maintain the network. Finally, they announced that they would be cancelling my calling plan altogether, inviting me once again to "upgrade." As if this was not discouraging enough, when I called to cancel my service, they said that they would be billing me for an entire month even though I canceled on the 2nd day of the billing cycle. If you want to establish cell phone service with a company that seems concerned primarily with raiding your pocketbook, then Cingular is for you.

I returned a phone under warranty and now they are charging me for a new phone due to damage. I did not do any physical damage to the phone and I never dropped it in water. If they did not accept my phone I assume they do not warrant most of the phones. Horrible warranty service. Don't expect to have your phone covered under warranty. You are better off replacing it from Ebay.

On first page of current usage overview, 700 anytime minutes are posted.
Details of calls shows total 513 minutes that includes Anytime+nights/week-end/mobile to mobile.
I called for clarification and asked to look into but customer reps are not willing to do anything except they are repeating "We can not answer or reply on unbilled usage"
Just too lousy. Cingular does not deserve my and my family members business for sure..

Good luck entering the Cingular Customer Service Fortress. This must be the only phone company that does not provide a customer service email address. For registered users there is a 'mail' link that does not work (date 8/6/2006). Very frustrating to have to find this out by browsing the cluttered website.

I ordered a family plan with Cingular online a month ago. I wanted to try the service with a temporary number for a couple of days to make sure I had coverage before porting my existing number over. They said no problem and that there would just be the regular activation fees for the first lines.
Just got the first bill and there is $142 worth of activation costs. $62 for the first two lines that we used for only a couple of days and $72 to port the existing numbers. Plus there are so many taxes and fees that I can't even figure out that my first bill is 3x what I was expecting. Plus the bill is 12 pages long which makes it quite difficult to even figure out what all the charges are for.

Do not believe "Fewest Dropped Call" advertisement.
I was lured by it, and switched from Sprint PCS. In Cambridge, MA, 8 out of 10 calls dropped within 5 minutes. When I was using Sprint, only 1 out of 10 calls dropped.
Customer service was horrible too. When I ordered it by phone, they promised me to ship the phone and written contract. Phone arrived after 5 days, but not the contract. I called them, and they told me to wait for another 1 week. Nothing happened, so I called them again. They told me wait for another week. Nothing happened, I called them again. They told me they NEVER shipped the contract, and ship it now. It took 3 weeks to get a contract.
Don't believe "30 days money back policy" thing. It took for them to ship things for three weeks. So I had only 3 days left before I have to return it. They told me to ship it back to Texas address and if they don't receive it (even if Fedex's error), or if they find the phone is not brand-new state, they will charge your credit companies for two year contract.

After being with Verizon for two years, I was so tired of it, that I wanted to try Cingular, at that time with AT&T already. I picked out a nice phone for myself and my mom and a nice plan that would fit our needs. We got the phones on time and everything worked out great, the only thing is that you can't buy another phone if your plan is not expiring. You can only purchase a phone for the full price. When I got a new phone for Christmas, it seemed that the service was better with the new phone. Other than that I think it's a pretty good phone company.

Horrible, misleading, and worst representatives I have ever dealt with. Plans are deceptive and secretive. Billing is a nightmare! Watch your billing because you will be billed for items not noted in your plan such as IM, webmail, ringtones, games, etc..... When trying to contact them about your billing or problem,,,,well see for yourself, don't take my word for it! Go to their website and try to contact them about a problem. Easy to contact about signing up but thats the end of the service! Go with another company! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Watch out for the new phone LG C2000 being offered unless you want to pay extra for a blocked sim card.

Not about online shopping but about their customer service web site.
- Signed up for email billing - they messed up my email address and were never able to fix it. Never get any email bills, always behind on payments because I am supposed to think of it myself.
- Changing account information on their customer web site. Almost impossible, tired many times over months. Still have the wrong credit card information stored and unable to change it. Have to enter new credit card information every time I want to make a payment. Have gone back to paper billing and checks thanks to their lousy electronic service.
- Why is it that I have to listen to a whole voice msg. in my box before I can delete it?

I have been very satisfied with Cingular. We have the family plan and it averages about $20 - 25 per month per phone. We split the service with parents and mail monthly payments. We have over 2000 minutes rolled over. We used some previously when Mom had surgery and we had to update friends and family with her condition. We have also had positive experience with the Motorola brand cell phones.

I would not recomend Cingular. When we were getting the service I liked the rollover minutes. Turns out the service is extremely spotty. I could not make phone call in my area!! So in order to get a phone that worked I had to pay early cancelation fees.
We went to ATT$T and they worked out great--except a few months later they were bought by Cingular. (ever feel like you can't win). The service is still better than before when it was only Cingular, I suppose they have more stations.
