Walmart.com experience has left me puzzled!
Full Review
I have ordered many times from Walmart.com along with other websites with no problems other than using Pay Pal on Ebay (do not use Pay Pal or Ebay any longer). I discovered that on January 14, 2012 that a purchase for 2 $50.00 ITunes gift cards had been made agaist my Walmart.com account because the charge showed up against my bank account. Unfortunately, I was too trusting that this was a "secure" site and had saved my debit card (only the last 4 digits were displayed) information to make purchasing quicker. Well I am now taking the time to go into all the on-line accounts that I have used to make sure that I change my password to a much stronger one to help prevent this from happening again because I wasn't able to to log into my account because the hacker had made a change to both the user name and password. So I had to contact Walmart.com customer service to see how they could help me. Luckily I had a confirming email for the purchase that was fraudulently made so I had the order number. After the customer service rep asked me several security questions, he was able to enter my email address back onto my account with a password (changed it as soon as I got off the phone) that I gave to him, he was able to cancel the order. The thing that bothers me is that there was no mention of what actions that Walmart.com would take to see who/why/how this happened. Instead, I was told that I would have to file an idebtity theft report with the police department and fax them copies of the reports. I was told that if I file an idetity theft report that I will be put on the spot everytime I would use even my debit card. I immediately called my bank to have the debit card cancelled so a new one can be sent out to me. I have been checking my account daily and have not seen any other fraudulent charges showing up on my account. With all the additional steps that I am taking I do not feel that an identity theft report needs to be filed. I will review my credit reports also to make sure that nothing else happens too.
