Oriental Trading: My mother was SO right!

Pros:  10,000 products, 65 years in business, great Customer service and much more!

Cons:  some items are pretty cheesy (But not all)

The Bottom Line:  With 65 years in business they must be doing SOMETHING right! Easy to use site, fast delivery and excellent Customer service combined with 10,000 products to choose from.

Oriental Trading Co. has been around for as long as I can remember. They have proven to be a great company to buy from and the catalogs are pretty fun to just browse. My mother used to get these catalogs in the mail all the time, and I remember going through them marking the pages of all the little things I wanted. Everything from personalized pencils to blow up furniture can be found in that book! When I discovered they were online, I was just ecstatic!

What is it? : Oriental trading Co. is a playground of obscure and silly items as well as everyday things. This novelty store sells party supplies and bulk items such as pencils and party favor bags, balloons, plastic jewelry, Halloween costumes and any kind of festive items you can think of. I have even seen things for Saint Patrick’s Day on sale! They offer low prices, speedy delivery and great deals to anyone who uses the site. They are based out of Omaha Nebraska.

What can I find there?: They sell novelties, toys, party supplies, crafts, gift items, home décor products and garden accents. Just about any item you can think of can be found on this site. For example I just ordered a 12 pack of jello molds in the shape of brains, I’ll be making jello-shots for my sister’s Halloween party with them!

They have candy and toys and costume items, gifts and decorations for any occasion from birthdays to baptisms and all the holidays under the sun. Nobody will be left out with this company. They go off of popular culture too, the big Alien kick did not go unnoticed and in fact I am the proud owner of several of their beanie baby aliens and blow up alien heads!

They sell festive candies (From reputable manufacturers!) and decorations, party invitation, party hats, games, toys and trinkets. They have small items to use for vending machines (I owned two vending machines some years ago and used this company to fill them up!) and larger items to use as gifts for someone you love or just for yourself!

They have a new catalog for each holiday and they send an email to let you know when the new products are available. You can do a search on the site for just the right item. Chances are good they will have several items to choose from that meet your search words. But if you go to the site and simply search for an item and leave, you’ll be missing out on all the fun. Browse the site to find some goofy gifts and items you simply cannot live without. Take some time to look around and enjoy the site!

You cannot beat these prices. Remember the jello molds I spoke of earlier? Well a pack of 12 individual sized brain jello molds cost me less than $5. I paid $4.50! You can get free shipping with some orders as well.

It is MUCH cheaper to buy all your child’s party supplies from Oriental Trading Co. I spent less than $50 on all the supplies, candy, decorations and goody bag items for my daughter’s parties COMBINED! That included the shipping cost too! We ended up with two wonderful and fun filled birthday parties for what I used to spend on ONE!

Specials: Oriental Trading Co. offers things like free shipping on certain orders and the choice to personalize many of their items. My mother used to buy pencils for me for school and have my name put on them. Having an unusual name was tough for me because you couldn’t just walk into a store and buy an item with my name on it, mom had to special order these things for me, so it’s a nice touch to see the company offers this for many other items as well. To add a name or some initials is relatively cheap and a great way to make the person receiving it feel extra special.

The Site: The site is well maintained and easy to navigate. Each category is clearly marked at the top of the page; simply click the tab for the occasion you’re looking for. The tabs are: Party, Themes, Holidays, Toys & Novelties, Crafts, Stationery, Personalization, Candy, Jewelry, Plush & Dolls, Costumes, Home Accents, Religious, Electronics. so it’s easy to see how simple it is to find what you need.

There is a search feature as well; type in the items you’re looking for and it will bring you right to it. You can also enter the catalog item number or even quick order something from the catalog.

The front page of the site has the day’s deals and offers, off to the left is a list of the site’s features. Choose from: Customer Login, Edit Membership Info, Request a Catalog, Order Status, Help, Contact us, About Us, Security/Privacy, Tell a friend, Affiliate Program, Safety News. Again it is plain to see they had ease of use in mind while designing this site.

Customer Service: The people who work for Oriental Trading Co. are kind and courteous and take pride in their work. They have always proven to be well mannered and as helpful as they can be. I have never run into a problem with Oriental Trading items or staff. When UPS messed up the delivery of my order some months ago, Oriental Trading was on the phone tracking it down and helping me every step of the way. I consider this above and beyond what is expected of ANY company.

Whether it is phone support or email support or even the easy to use online help I have been impressed with the quality and the concern this company has shown.

Returning items is a snap. You simply send it back and get your refund. They don’t ask questions and they don’t try to trick you with “Store Credit” or “You’ve passed the return date.” They are honest and hard working.

Final Thoughts: My mother was right about this company 25 years ago, and to this day still orders items. The legacy lives on with me now and I enjoy browsing the website and letting my kids look at the catalogs. I feel confident knowing this company has been around so long, and know from the last 25 years that the items are high quality and backed by the companies promise. You can be sure that whatever you need for your party or your home use, you will find it here and be happy with your purchase.
