Went from OK to no longer going to shop there

I bought a V-Day gift for my wife there based on a special they had running through my employer. The quality was OK, the price was good for the quality. I really did get exactly what I paid for and I was fully aware of the quality once I looked into the diamond grades they use, the wife just wanted a bit of bling to wear now and again and this fit the bill. Since then, I ordered some nice necklaces they had for my kids. On that order I also added a watch for myself. The total was $680 for all 4 pieces, I chose to do the payments as I did for my first purchase. I received a call 2 days after placing the order from their "credit department" where I was told that yes, I had a positive payment history for 4 months on my last order but due to the high cost of this order, they would have to do a hard pull on my credit to approve it. I refused since i'm not getting an open revolving charge card or anything. Then they told me that i'd have to pay 50% up front. I said to go ahead and cancel the order then. What kind of CS is that? They have my banking information and draw out from that account every month, never a problem. I went over to Kay, opened a revolving account with a $10k limit on it the next day and bought my girls something nice for the same price.
Ice, if you're going to offer payments then either cut it off at a certain price, or offer a revolving account for a credit pull. Don't change the rules after the fact.
