Anyone who elects to buy anything from Hammacher Schlemmer should be aware that they are very likely paying much more than they need to.

That is, almost anything available at Hammacher Schlemmer is available elsewhere for less money. (One recent example: Hammacher charges $129.99 for an XACT XG2500 Cordless Headset Earphone which is available at J and R for $89.99.)

The Hammacher Schlemmer people clearly make efforts to hide brand names and/or model numbers so that one cannot search for items at a lower price. As well, the store does not offer a price guarantee policy.

Unless you enjoy paying much more than you need to, I would strongly advise people to buy elsewhere.

I would and did shop here again. Item was more than we hoped for as far as quality for the price. Delivery was in three days. We were so happy with our product we ordered another one.

Hammacher offers some of the nicest and most tasteful products you can find. They have a variety of unconventional and high-end items. If you're a picky person who only wants the best, this is a place to look.

On October 17, 2003, I ordered $777 worth of merchandise from Hammacher Schlemmer. On October 25, I received a letter from them which included my personal check that had not been cashed. The letter stated that my check had been declined because the funds were unverifiable. I had in excess of $5000.00 in the account at the time and suspect that they simply didn't bother to check with my bank. Evidently, they are doing very well financially, since they didn't even bother to attempt to cash my check and apparently can well afford to lose $777 worth of business. That said, I have contacted all of my customers and aquaintances by email about their shoddy business practices and will never again waste my time attempting to do business with this company.

MY COMPLAINTS
Substandard website and ordering process, untrue advertising, and customer service doesn't communicate well via e-mail. Terrible return policy for sending back defective/falsely advertised product.
