Charged prematurely for an item that's backordered with no expected shipping date.

I ordered a book that was backordered, fully understanding that I wouldn't be getting it any time soon. The confirmation email and a later email about the book being backordered assured me that the money would not be taken out of my account until the order shipped.
Two days later an almost $50 charge was posted on my bank account, even though the order was still "open" and the book hadn't shipped. I complained, and when I got a reply (which I admit only took a couple hours) they told me that what was posted to my account wasn't a charge, it was a pre-authorization to ensure I had the funds. Then they informed me that the book was still backordered, and offered no solution to the problem.
I'm a cliche starving college student, and the book was bought as a holiday gift for my best friend, a splurge that I had to budget carefully for. With this charge, I have next to no money for the rest of the semester (about 4 weeks). I would be a little stressed but overall ok if the book was actually shipped after I was charged, but considering I won't be getting my order and am out $50, I'm very upset.
I picked deepdiscount because of the customer ratings, and I'm basically disgusted with the way they run their business. I don't think my situation is a common one, but it proves what kind of business the site really is. I would avoid it like the plague, if I were you.
