Before I took on my new job one thing I had to look into was how much money I was going to spend on gas per month. My former office was located just one exit up the highway from my home while my new job would be about 80-miles round trip everyday. The offer from my new company was for more money but I wanted to figure out if it would be worth it or not because my gas expense was going to be huge.
I stumbled upon automotive.com and found a neat little tool that allowed me to check gas prices at virtually every station along my commute. The tool was very useful as it has given me an accurate figure on what the cost per gallon is at every location. Since I need to fill the tank a few times per week I often find myself on automotive.com doing research on the best prices before I hit the road. In all honesty, I feel like this tool helps put money in my pocket every time I use it. I can always find gas at a price that is below my local average and oftentimes below the national average.
When I decided that I wanted to save even more money I started to look into cars that got better gas mileage than my 05 Chevy Trailblazer. The first place I looked for prices was the automotive.com website. I spend so much time on there periodically throughout the week that I knew I would be able to get a good bit of information on Honda Accords or Toyota Camrys. I decided to look into what a new one of these rides would set me back. As I suspected, there was a section on the website dedicated to new car quotes. All you really need to do is provide some basic info on the car you are after and that is it. The local dealerships that have what you are looking for will call you in an effort to get you interested in what they have on their lot. The cool think is that you will get a few different dealerships calling you for your business. In my eyes, anytime you get different people competing for your business you have the upper hand. In addition, listening to what they have to say over the phone is way easier than spending a whole day in the waiting room at a dealership looking around for someone to answer your questions.
