No one expected it from looking at him in his youth, but Rocky Bleier went on to emerge as one of the best running backs of his era. Bleier's is a story of will, courage and talent winning out over all obstacles. After a standout career at Notre Dame, Bleier was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and an even more powerful team, the U.S. Army. Bleier promptly went to serve in Viet Nam. An ambush left him severely wounded in the left thigh and right leg, and people wondered if a career in football was still within his grasp. It was.
