In southern part of Cote d'Or, a few miles South of Santenay, lie vineyards of Rully. It is a lovely area, part of Region of Mercurey. Both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown on brown calcareous soil, Chardonnay being found mostly on clay and limestone. As in rest of Burgundy, continental climate, with its warm Summer and mild fall, is very favourable to good maturity of grapes. Rully is a delicious white Burgundy wine which resembles whites from Cote de Beaune: a luminous, golden green colour, a toasty, fruity nose, a refined, elegant body with floral and cinnamon notes. This exquisite wine, which goes so well with delicate fish and most shellfish, is also an excellent value.
