This wine is from France, Rhone region. The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape blanc seems to be slightly more muted but is still an excellent example of white Chateauneuf du Pape, with notes of white flowers, honeyed citrus, and a medium-bodied, dry, crisp finish. The luxury cuvee (only 500 cases) is from a single vineyard, the Clos de Beauvenir. Manager Alain Dugas, who has done such a superb job at La Nerthe since 1998, told me that they decided not to produce a Cuvee des Cadettes in 2007 because several of their old vine Mourvedre parcels were adversely affected by the yearas drought. Perhaps that is to their benefit, as the single cuvee that will be offered is a superb one. While La Nerthe has always made one of the best white wines of the appellation, it is worth noting that the very tiny production of white Chateauneuf du Pape continues to show encouraging progress almost across the board, as non-malolactic and cold fermentation techniques seem to be producing much more fruit and character in the wines. Wine Enthusiast rating: 94. Gorgeously ripened black fruit aromas leap from glass, framed by warm clove and cinnamon spice notes of Tokaji barrels. There is an indelible pedigree and power to this wine, as it is as dark in color and plush in texture as one can imagine a wine to be. This character comes from drought-suffering berries which really struggled to grow to full size, and in final days of season, lost a fifth of their weight due to evaporation from an astonishing dry spell. But it was precisely these conditions that provided power, weight and density that makes this wine extraordinary. It is a show stopper.

Moderate, consistent temperatures continued throughout summer, setting up excellent conditions for ripening rich, balanced fruit at harveSaint Ripe and spicy aromas offer vibrant layers of blackberry, cherry and pomegranate intermingled with notes of clove, cinnamon and anise. This wine is from France, Loire region. Chenin Blanc is one of the worlds least-known and appreciated great white wine grapes. Originally from Frances Loire Valley, Chenin Blanc has spread around the globe and is used for virtually all styles of white wine, from crisp and lean to rich, round full table wines, sparkling wines, and some of the most decadent dessert wines made. Classic descriptors for the flavors of Chenin Blanc include peach, honey, lanolin, marzipan, and quince jelly though the dry style from South Africa, where the wines are known as Steen, often exhibits more tropical fruit notes that recall pineapple and guava.
