Learn about Wine the Visual Way. You consider yourself fairly open minded about wine. You're familiar with the big five -- Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay -- and are getting comfortable with more obscure grape varieties: the occasional Albarino, Petite Sirah, or Viognier. But just when you thought you had the situation under control, your waiter suggests a Lagrein, your local liquor store is pushing Xynomavro, and your friends now swear by Pineau d'Aunis. What to do? The popular wine reference, De long's Wine Grape Varietal Table has been improved and expanded. Just as with the first edition, the world of wine grapes is organized in a clear, concise and easy to use reference similar to a periodic table. The table contains 184 red and white grape varieties organized by both body (vertically) and acidity (horizontally). The Wine Indexes, which help to answer the bacchanalian question "what grape are you drinking?", now include all wine regions worldwide. To fit all the additional information in, the table is now 24 x 36 inches (printed on 110 lb. acid-free archival paper), and the indexes now comprise an 88 page perfect-bound book. The table and index book are packaged in an attractive and sturdy gift box. It makes a great gift for novice or expert lovers of wine and is the first in the De LongÂ’s Wine Info Series, a concise set of wine information guides.

This wine is from United States, California region. Two vineyard blocks located on a bench above Kelsey Creek in the Kelseyville area of Lake County are the sourcesfor our 2002 Sauvignon Blanc. For many years, Lake County has enjoyed a reputation for producing some of thefinest Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the entire state of California. We picked the grapes when they were fully ripe and transferred them directly to the press without crushing ordestemming, the gentlest method of handling delicate white grapes. After pressing and settling, the juice was coldfermentedin stainless steel tanks to capture and preserve the fresh fruit aromatics and flavors. Following the long, slow fermentation, the wine was further stored in stainless steel tanks at cold cellar temperatures until bottling.. The 2002 Sauvignon Blanc showcases the exotic tropical passion fruit, honeydew melon, sweet grapefruit andlime flavors found in the finest examples of this grape variety, along with crisp acidity and a plush finish.. Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most versatile wines for pairing with food. It has a natural affinity for anythingfrom the sea: freshly shucked oysters, all shellfish (grilled or sauteed), fish with herb butter or sauces, even sushior Pacific Rim-Asian cuisine. It also serves as a great starter-course wine to go with an array of appetizers, salads, green vegetable dishes, grilled poultry or light pasta preparations with fresh herbs and extra-virgin olive oil. And on to another California wine a a chardonnay called Bohemian Highway. Ia ll be honest, I had this one quite a while back so I dona t remember specifics, but I DO remember that I liked it. Do with that what you will. Then there was the wine that I had while visiting my sister in Houston a few weeks ago. I could have taken a picture with my iPhone but Ia d already had two largish margaritas with dinner and wasna t thinking straight. Which was evidenced by the way Sher and I were attempting to open the wine in the first place. After the handle of the corkscrew snapped off, we attempted to still use it. I held the corkscrew in place while she turned the bottle around it. It worked about as well as you might imagine so we ended up at the grocery store in search of a corkscrew that didna t suck. My point here is that by the time we got into the wine, it turned out to be just OK and probably not worth all of the effort that went into opening it. That is my review: A wine that I do not remember the name of, of which I have no picture, that took 30 minutes and a trip to the store to open a was just okay. Now. Arena t you glad Ia m here to share these things?

The ancient Greek philosophers called them elixirs of the gods. The Roman emperors used them to celebrate their victories. Kings and queens cherished them as they did their riches. And for wine lovers, the fine wines of today are still to be treasured and enjoyed. How and why these wines reach their zenith in color, flavor, and value is the focus of this beautifully illustrated book by wine connoisseur Baudouin Neirynck. The book first looks at the activities of growing grapes and making wine. Each process is explained in detail so that you can understand the painstaking steps required to turn grapes into fine wines. This is followed by a discussion of the twenty most popular white and black grapes responsible for great wines. Here you will find everything you need to know about white grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Viognier; and black grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Sangiovese. In addition, the grape classification system is explained, optimal soils and climates are discussed, and the world's wine production regions are explored. Also included are chapters on investing in wines, storing and serving wines, matching wines with foods, reading wine labels, and even the health benefits of wine. Throughout, beautiful color photographs and illustrations bring the text to life. Whether you are a wine expert or simply someone who enjoys an occasional glass of wine with your meals, The Grapes of Wine is as mesmerizing as a glass of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Beyond the basics of wine appreciation, it offers a unique look at how great wines are made and--perhaps most important--it guides you to the best and most sought-after wines available.

The Gamla Chardonnay combines apple, citrus and honeysuckle notes with hints of oak, caramel and spice. The wine`s medium body and elegance make it very drinkable. Gamla Chardonnay is ready to enjoy and will remain in good shape for the next 3-4 years, if stored in a cool dark place. We enjoy Gamla Chardonnay with grilled fish dressed with a squeeze of lemon, or chicken breasts marinated in lime juice and rosemary and then quickly seared. Gamla Chardonnay is made entirely from Chardonnay grown in the cool northern Golan. Following a cold fermentation in stainless steel, the wine aged for four months in small French oak barrels.
