Toasted Head and the fire-breathing bear began their amazing journey in 1995. From awinery tucked away in the Dunnigan Hills of Yolo County, they set out to spread the wordof toasted barrels and their distinctive influence on wine. Toasted Head is named for theage-old practice of toasting barrel heads and staves that imparts a mellow, toasted flavorto barrel-aged wines. The fire-breathing bear on our label was originally inspired by adrawing created by artist Robert Shetterly for a poem entitled a Speaking Fire at Stones.a a a every one of these stones contains a bear. As the tale of Toasted Head unfolds,we continue in pursuit of both adventure and taste. Possessed by an evercurious and restless spirit, our winemakers ventured out of the Dunnigan Hills to unearth a new host of treasures.Our Barrel Reserve series features a superb Russian River Valley Chardonnay, a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, and anAlexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Each appellation was selected for the ideal growing conditions it provides forthese diverse varietals.The Russian River and Sonoma Coast areas provide cool, foggy mornings and warm, sunny afternoons that allow thelush, earthy flavors of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to develop unhindered by excessive heat. In contrast, theAlexander Valley provides higher temperatures and longer periods of sun exposure to ripen the heartier CabernetSauvignon grapes. Each of these wines reflects the unique terroir of its vineyards and delivers a more refinedvarietal taste.
