And then perfect scenario played out: light rains came on weekend of 22-23 September, and botrytis was absorbed by grapes, causing rapid and uniform concentration, enhanced by a warm and windy Indian summer. vineyard went from a golden yellow to botrytis violet in just three days. Under action of eastern wind, botrytis wavered and wrinkled, contracting and concentrating juices. Harvest was quick and concentrated, on a single pass for certain plots, which is unprecedented at Rieussec. In early tastings, nose is powerful and dominated by apricot and candied melon notes. In mouth attack is delicate and full of finesse. It then develops in volume and an amazing sensation arises in mouth. balance between acidity and liquor is so perfect that sugar totally disappears. In 1994, desire to produce an ice wine, or Eiswein, as it is called in Germany, prompted us to adopt an innovative program whereby Scheurebe grapes would be picked late in season and then commercially frozen, thus concentrating their already-high sugar levels. We called wine Eisrebe. Although German Eisweins are produced from fruit that is actually picked frozen from vine, we found that by freezing grapes ourselves we could fashion a delicious dessert wine that is viscous and smooth, with excellent acidity to balance sweetness. 2009 Scheurebe has delicate aromas of apricot, citrus blossom, honey, and creme caramel followed by a rich and unctuous texture integrated with well balanced, bright acidity and a persistent finish. Grape & Source: 100% Scheurebe from our home ranch in Spring Valley outside of Saint Helena in Napa Valley.

The name of the Company founder, Giovanni Allegrini, has been given to this red dessert wine made, using entirely new techniques, from selected and dried Valpolicella grapes.
