Certainly, nobody back in 1979, could have dreamed that it would triumph in a Parisian blind tasting against some of world's most famous wines. Yet it marked start of a new era in wine making: a time in which to stop dreaming and embarck on a new journey, year after year, harvest after harvest. This wine's noble and healthy tannins will complement best meat and game dishes. color and weight on this Spanish Cabernet are just right. After that, it becomes an insider's wine. Why do we say that? Because it's not like a Napa, Washington or Chilean Cabernet that oozes cassis, plum and sweet French oak. Instead, it shows teh terroir of Mas La Plana vineyard in Northeast Spain, and with airing (decanting even better) it becomes a sexy, interesting, Old World Cabernet that delivers provoking, earthier flavors. Still a touch tight, but dense, focused and layered, with well-integrated structure underneath loam, blackberry, espresso, tobacco and sage notes.
