The Wine Advocate rating: 94. To categorize 2002 Reserve, finest parcels of wine were selected from best blocks as they were fermenting. Indigenous or 'wild' yeasts, naturally present on grape skins were allowed to initiate fermentation. These 'wild' ferments have helped contribute to individual complexities of wine, creating richness and fine textures. Cabernet component was sourced mainly from Eden Valley, with Shiraz sourced from Barossa Valley. Concentrated deep red in colour, nose is full of deep red fruits with suggestions of mint and spicy cedary oak. Powerfully constructed and concentrated, palate is thick and ripe with juicy dark fruits combined with creamy oak, underpinned by velvety smooth tannins. Reserve is a wine that should be drinking at its optimum in 8-12 years from vintage.

Penfolds St Henri is a highly successful and alternative expression of Shiraz and an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. It is unusual among high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on any new oak. It was created in early 1950s (first commercial vintage 1957) and gained a new lease of life in 1990s as its quality and distinctive style became better understood. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1460-litre vats that allow wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of Cabernet is sometimes used to improve structure, focal point for St Henri remains Shiraz. Color: Bright, youthful, red. Nose: Pure, real, unadulterated, honest Shiraz... and 100% at that in this 2007 vintage release! Primarily, freshly-pureed mixed-berries - raspberry, mulberry, loganberry, sitting alongside aromas alike those from candied/toffeed apple. Fresh, vibrant, lively. Pal Wine &

1990 vintage of this wine was ranked #1 on Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 1995 Grange is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an unbroken line of vintages from experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates synergy between Shiraz and soils and climates of South Australia. Color: Deep, dark garnet. Nose: At once Grange - a tightly wrapped projection from glass of dark-berried Barossa fruits coupled with a myriad of barrel ferment complexities. Thereafter, a burst of honey-cured jamon / pancetta aromatically thrust above, with a rich mix of generously basted roasted meats, peat & nutmeg anchored beneath. Upon sitting / air these characters descend, revealing beguiling elements of freshly turned volcanic earth and an innocent suggestion of old-growth forest floor underlay. Palate: flavor pool primarily highlights Satsuma plum conserve alongside rhubarb/aniseed/fennel, with liqueur Wine & Spirits rating: 91.

Explosive black berry and pomegranate-like flavors with perfectly matched tannins that give wine a long, lasting aftertaSainte A treat to drink now and will age well for 7-10 years. This majestic Shiraz comes from spectacular Malakoff estate, low-yielding (less than 1t/acre), high-concentration vineyard site in Central Victoria. Gone is over-ripe, alcoholic in-your-face style of so many Australian Shiraz wines. In its place is a medium bodied wine wrapped in a silky texture that is a revelation of what Australian Shiraz can be when made by one of great winemakers of Syrah. This variety has been interpreted by two renowned wine families; Rhone mast Michel Chapoutier, together with wine authority and Napa Valley vintner Anthony Terlato. soil profile of Malakoff vineyard is remarkably similar to that of France's northern Rhone Valley and area's climate is ideal for growing superior quality Shiraz. Angels' Share refers to small amount of wine that evaporates from oak barrels during maturation. Medieval winemakers assumed that angels watched over wines, and that they took their share. Selected from parcels of exceptional McLaren Vale fruit, this wine is made in a true Australian style and will appeal to both angels and mortals alike. color is a beautiful black with deep magenta hues. On nose, coming from a very good year, upon release this wine is very restrained and elegant. Spicy red fruits, subtle char and pepper with underlying charcuterie, grilled meats and soft mocha and vanillin. A burst of juicy red fruits on early palate that remains throughout. As fruit builds mocha notes become more prevalent and finally firm but fine tannins kick in and hold palate together, balanced with subtle vanillin oak. International Wine Cellar rating: 91.
