This wine is from United States, California region. Pull the cork on any bottle of Shafer Merlot and you will find a forward, stylish Merlot that takes center stage with all its appealing varietal fruit, not a Merlot that plays understudy to a Cabernet Sauvignon. Only small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are blended in to complement, but not overshadow, the Merlot itself. Taking advantage of the site-specific nature of this varietal, Shafer's Merlot draws its grapes from selected vineyards throughout the Napa Valley, gaining complexity from the vineyard diversity. It is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. .

This wine is from Australia. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and Bitch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end. The R series features Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa and a Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale. The labels portray different takes on the letter “R'. Consumers owe it to themselves to read the witty back labels. The Marquis Philips wines have established a six year track record of delivering a big bang for the buck. The wines are now made by a team put together by Dan Philips and Chris Ringland with absolutely no change in quality. Starting with the 2006 vintage, however, all of the fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale. The other change of note is that Merlot has been dropped from the program, primarily because of the difficulty of finding Merlot good enough to merit the M-P label..

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. The 2008 growing season has produced a particularly complex and complete expression of Napa Valley Merlot, combining bright, lifted red fruit elements with darker, more extracted layers. This depth is on display in the aromatics, where notes of Asian spice, red currant, plum and blueberry crisp are supported by a subtle streak of earthiness. The palate is both velvety and balanced, with flavors that echo the aromas. These flavors are held together by granular tannins and accented by oak-inspired notes of molasses and nougat. Over 55% of this blend is composed of estate fruit. This wine is from United States. 'The best of the best' is a phrase often heard, but in the case of the Ameritage Reserve, it is simply a statement of fact. Winemaker Gino Razzi, after inspecting, tasting and retasting every barrel of Ameritage, selects those few that truly show unique and special qualities. Each vintage of Ameritage is a new journey for winemaker Gino Razzi, as each vintage presents different qualities to be understood and expressed in the finished wine. The 2004 Ameritage Reserve is a blend of many grapes - cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petite verdot, merlot, sangiovese. The only qualification to be part of this blend is that the grapes are the very best, and that, each in their part, contribute a quality to the completed assemblage.Rested for 2 years in 100% new French oak barriques, this wine is deep ruby in color with a core that is nearly black. Its power and complexity dance around its freshness and vitality. This is all wine combined to make one great wine. The cassis, plum, tobacco, cedar, and sweet spice notes sing together in harmony, counterbalanced by silky tannins and a soft fleshy texture. This wine is a great counterbalance to many dishes, but is perhaps best sipped after a meal for long hours of conversation and contemplation. This wine can to be enjoyed now, but it will evolve with another 15-20 years in the bottle.60% new French oak180 cases produced Wine OTHER DOMESTIC WINE

This wine is from Italy, Umbria region. The 2004 Sagrantino di Montefalco Pagliaro is more linear than the 2005 and perhaps just a touch more advanced as well. Sweet tobacco, herb and earth aromas waft out of the glass followed by a perfumed core of fruit that emerges over time. A long, refined finish rounds out the wine nicely. The 2004 is more ethereal than the 2005, but it, too, is quite beautiful, not to mention a terrific effort in what was a challenging vintage for this property. Interestingly, what seems to come through most in tasting the 2005 and 2004 side by side are the qualities of this vineyard first, and those of vintage second. The 2004 Pagliaro was macerated on the skins for 48 days and spent 32 months in large, neutral casks. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. My visit with Giampiero Bea was illuminating, as we spent several hours tasting through virtually every wine in the cellar. Bea has a number of promising wines in cask that should satisfy the cravings of his most passionate fans. Among the wines that will be released in coming years is a new Sagrantino from the Rignano vineyard which is a stoneas throw from the winery. The new cellar, still under construction, is decidedly stark and minimalist in style. Bea pursues a natural, non-interventionalist approach. The wines undergo fermentation without temperature control, using only ambient yeasts. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel, though here, too, the timing and pace is dictated by nature. The wines are neither fined nor filtered prior to being bottled, and all important operations are undertaken according to the lunar calendar. To be sure, this is high-risk winemaking. The results can be striking, but they can also be quite variable when nature decides to be capricious. Bea prefers hot vintages such as 2003 and 2007, so it is no surprise he is most excited about those vintages. While those wines certainly possess impressive concentration, my sense is he might be able to do more in less favorable years like 2004 and 2005, where some of the wines lack a touch of depth. Beaas labels contain a wealth of information about the vintage and how each wine was made, although the notes are only printed in Italian. Longtime fans of the wines will notice that in recent years the specific names of the vineyards have taken greater prominence in the labels. The Bea wines are all about subtlety, grace and elegance. At their best, they are among the finest wines to emerge from Montefalco, and Italy, for that matter. Wine Advocate Wine UMBRIA

750 ML Bottle of Marilyn Monroe 2002 Napa Valley Merlot. 2002 Marilyn Merlot Release date: June 1, 2004 The 2002 Marilyn Merlot grapes were harvested by our longtime growers from vineyards in the heart of the Napa Valley. This portrait of Marilyn wearing an easter hat was in a group of photos discovered in an abandoned brownstone in New York in the 1970's. The photographer is believed to be Carl Perutz. About The Wine "The 2002 vintage Marilyn Merlot is a blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. A significant addition of Cabernet adds greater complexity to the aromas and flavors of the predominately Merlot based wine. Our annual addition of 25% new oak barrels results in aromas of toasted vanilla beans that nicely enhance the plush flavors of the black fruits". John McKay, winemaker $150.00 /bottle - 750 ml. This wine is from Italy, Umbria region. The 2004 Montefalco Rosso Riserva Pipparello offers greater density, richness and polish than the San Vincenzo, with sweet notes of candied cherries and flowers that waft out of its mid-weight, ethereal frame. Two years in oak gives this wine nuances that are slightly more forward than the San Vincenzo, and it, too, is probably best enjoyed over the next few years. Here the vineyard is approximately 22 years old. The blend is 60% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano, and 15% Sagrantino. The wine was macerated on the skins for 45 days and spent about two years in large, neutral casks. Anticipated maturity. 2009-2014. This wine is from Israel, Judean Hills region. The 2004 Cabernet-Merlot-Shiraz is Cabernet Sauvignon dominated (56%), with the Merlot (33%) and Shiraz (11%) filling out the rest of the blend. It feels full in the mouth on first attack, but actually has an elegant mid-plate. There is a tannic grip on the finish, and the initial fruit forward presentation is deceptive, as the structure is good. It opens quickly, and the fruit is sweet and flavorful. There is a touch of herbs in the background. A tasty presentation that packs a punch, it is a short list contender for the finest value in this report. Drink now-2013. Is nose appears candid, elegant and strong, evoking dog-rose, mint and tobacco that in time turn to fragrances of spices, coffee, liquorice and truffle with a leather and mineral finish. In the mouth it appears full, rounded, strong bodied and well balanced. It has a forward flavor of plum preserve and dried blackberry with a chocolate finish giving a harmonious and pleasant aromatic persistence. It is extremely affable in its first years, becoming austere with classic elegance and boldness as time goes on. This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. In 1981, Dennis and Judy Groth purchased 121 acres in Napa Valley’s Oakville appellation - prime Cabernet Sauvignon land. The wines gained immediate recognition and Robert Parker awarded the 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon the distinction of California’s first 100 point wine. The Groths have since purchased another 44 acres in the Hillview vineyard in Yountville. Making great wine takes dedication and experience. Vineyard manager, Ben Benson, joined Groth in 1982. His years of experience at the estate have helped him identify the ideal vines to plant in the each location, matching soil types to rootstock, to grape clone, to trellising. Michael Weis, winemaker since 1994, has more than three decades of experience with Oakville grapes and wines. In addition to their legendary Cabernets, Groth also produces consistently fine Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.. A blend of estate-grown grapes from Oakville and Hillview, the fruit was whole cluster pressed and allowed to settle beforebeing transferred to French oak barrels (25% new). Malolactic was blocked for both wines and each wine was aged on its leesfor eight months in French oak (25% new). After racking, the wine was blended and bottled .
