And then perfect scenario played out: light rains came on weekend of 22-23 September, and botrytis was absorbed by grapes, causing rapid and uniform concentration, enhanced by a warm and windy Indian summer. vineyard went from a golden yellow to botrytis violet in just three days. Under action of eastern wind, botrytis wavered and wrinkled, contracting and concentrating juices. Harvest was quick and concentrated, on a single pass for certain plots, which is unprecedented at Rieussec. In early tastings, nose is powerful and dominated by apricot and candied melon notes. In mouth attack is delicate and full of finesse. It then develops in volume and an amazing sensation arises in mouth. balance between acidity and liquor is so perfect that sugar totally disappears. I have never seen an Argyle sparkling wine, with such delicate, tiny bubbles. That delicacy dances across palate just like old monk said, I am drinking stars! Age has brought this wine amazingly rich flavors of vanilla bean, creme brûlee, persimmon, and baked pear with delicate hints of licorice, peach, and spun sugar. It's astounding that a flavor profile can be so creamy yet have such a defined thread of acidity woven through it, but this wine does, finishing with clean acidity of a perfect sparkler. The flagship of our company (21 hectares of different climates) coming from the Saint Christophe chapel situated at the top of the Hermitage hill and constructed in 1235 by the knight Gaspard de Sterimberg. The Chapel of the Hermitage was bought by Paul Jaboulet Aine in 1919 and it remains the company's property. L'Hermitage La Chapelle is considered to be one of the best wines in the world. It is made solely from the Syrah grape variety, the vines have an avaerage age of 40 years. The hill faces south on an axis south east, which is exceptional. Not one ray of sunshine escapes the vineyard and it is sheltered from cold winds. The soil is composed of granite sand covered with micaschist and gneiss but there are also areas of round alluvial stones. Our vineyards are spread over different terroirs : Meal, Bessard which give to our wine a mixture of complexity and finesse.
