This collectible B-25B represents the aircraft flown by Jimmy Doolittle on the famous Doolittle Raid on April 18 1942. This detailed model B-25 shows the bomber that struck America s first blows against Japan in World War II and offered an valuable morale boost to the nation. Painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen with a wealth of detail this 1/65-scale model B-25B makes a great aviation gift for any pilot enthusiast or history buff. The B-25 Mitchell was one of the most widely produced aircraft of World War II serving in every theater in a variety of configurations. The twin-engine Mitchell made the first strikes against Japan during the famed Doolittle Raid in 1942; served in Europe and became deadly ground attack aircraft when fitted with up to 14 forward-firing machine guns. Development of the B-25 began in the 1930s as an outgrowth of North American Aviation s XB-21 project. The new aircraft called NA-40 by the company was evaluated by the Army Air Corps in 1939 and ordered into production as the B-25. The B-25 was an inch under 53 feet long with a. Wing Span: 67 feet 6 inches. Powered by two Wright 2600 Twin Cyclone engines developing 1 850 horsepower each the B-25 had a maximum speed of 275 mph and a combat radius of 1 350 miles. Armament could include up to 6 000 pounds of bombs; eight 5-inch rockets; a torpedo and forward firing machine guns or cannon. Versions of the B-25 fitted with up to 14 forward-firing .50-caliber machine guns proved devastating to Japanese shipping and strafing and parafrag attacks proved valuable for attacking airfields. Maj. Paul Pappy Gunn developed many of the innovations that made the Mitchell a devastating attack aircraft pioneering the strafing modifications as well as skip-bombing techniques against shipping. Mitchells would come in at low-level guns blazing as pilots kicked rudder pedals to walk rounds along the waterline of Japanese ships and to suppress anti-aircraft fire. Crews would drop th

The LCVP (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) or also called as the Higgins Boat a landing craft mostly used during the World War II. The Higgins Boat was named after Andrew Jackson Higgins who designed and invented it. The LCVP was actually a modification of the Higgins Industries Eureka boat the Navy version of which was the LCPL (Landing Craft Personnel Large). LCVP was basically constructed from plywood. This shallow-draft barge-like boat could ferry a platoon-sized complement of 36 fully armed men (max load is 8 100 lbs) at 9 knots (17 km/h) or a 6 000 pound Jeep and other equipment and supplies essential to amphibious operations. Men generally entered the boat by climbing down a cargo net hung from the side of their troop transport; they exited by charging down the boats bow ramp. It was these boats that made the D-Day landings at Normandy Iwo Jima Guadalcanal Tarawa and hundreds of lesser-known places possible. Without Higgins uniquely designed craft there could not have been a mass landing of troops and material on European shores or on the beaches of the Pacific islands at least not without a tremendously higher rate of Allied casualties. More than 20 000 were built by Higgins Industries and licensees. Few Higgins Boats are displayed at the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans.

Space Shuttle Atlantis (OV-104) is currently one among the three operational spacecraft in the Space Shuttle fleet of NASA. It was named after the two-masted boat of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts from 1930 to 1966 and it served as the primary research vessel. Atlantis maiden flight was on October 1985. Atlantis went seven straight flights to the Russian space station Mir. The spacecraft served as the on-orbit launch site for many notable and noteworthy spacecrafts including planetary probes Magellan and Galileo. In 1991 it deployed the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. Atlantis underwent refitting operations and modifications including the installation of a glass cockpit. Atlantis completed an 11-day mission to the International Space Station involving three space walks in October 2002. During September 9-24 2005 Atlantis was scheduled for its 27th launch though the mission was suspended by NASA due to the complications during Discovery s launch of mission STS-114 and there are subsequent suspensions of all future shuttle launches. Atlantis was scheduled to fly the STS-121 mission but the mission was flown by Discovery instead. In the recent years Atlantis has delivered several vital components the U.S. laboratory module Destiny the Joint Airlock Quest and multiple sections of the Integrated Truss structure that serves as the backbone of the International Space Station. As of September 2006 Atlantis completed 28 flights spent 220.40-days in space completed 3 468 orbits and flown 89 908 732 nautical miles in total. Atlantis is scheduled to remain operational until 2010 the Shuttle program s projected end but is not currently scheduled for any missions further in 2008. ... Read more
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was a four-engine propeller-driven heavy bomber that was flown by the United States in World War II and the Korean War. The B-29 remained in service in various roles throughout the 1950s. The British Royal Air Force flew the B-29 named the Washington in RAF service and the Soviet Union produced an unlicensed copy as the Tupolev Tu-4. The name Superfortress was derived from that of its well-known predecessor the B-17 Flying Fortress. The B-29 was the progenitor of a series of Boeing-built bombers reconnaissance aircraft trainers and tankers including the B-29 variant B-50 Superfortress. The later jet powered B-47 Stratojet and the B-52 Stratofortress carried on the lineage. The B-29 was one of the largest aircraft to see service during World War II. A very advanced bomber for this time period it included features such as a pressurized cabin an electronic fire-control system and remote-controlled machine-gun turrets. Though it was designed as a high-altitude daytime bomber in practice it actually flew more low-altitude nighttime incendiary bombing missions. It was the primary aircraft in the American firebombing campaign against the Empire of Japan in the final months of World War II and carried the atomic bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Unlike many other WWII-era bombers the B-29 remained in service long after the war ended with a few even being employed as flying television transmitters for the Stratovision company. The type was finally retired in the early 1960s with 3 960 aircraft in all built. B-29 named Fifi is currently registered as airworthy but it is presently grounded due to costly engine problems. In a joint press release dated 21 January 2008 the Commemorative Air Force and the Cavanaugh Flight Museum announced a pledge of $1.2M USD to re-engine Fifi. Handcrafted Wood Desktop Model Plane. Handcrafted and Handpainted Mahogany Wood Model Plane. Classic Models/Home Decor. Scale: 1/72. Wing Span: 23.75.

This collectable model P-38J Lightning represents one of the most innovative fighters of World War II the twin-boom Lockheed P-38J Lightning. Designed by famed aeronautical engineer Kelly Johnson the P-38 was also the aircraft flown by the top two U.S. aces in World War II. This 1/50-scale model P-38J Lightning makes a great pilot gift or a present for any veteran aviation enthusiast or history buff. The P-38 was developed in response to a 1937 request from the Army Air Corps for an twin0engine interceptor that could climb to 20 000 feet in six minutes and have a top speed of 360 mph. The proposal also called for the aircraft to use turbosupercharged Allison V-1710 engines and to have tricycle landing gear. Lockeheed s proposal under the direction of Clarence Kelly Johnson - who would design the P-80 Shooting Star the F-104 Starfighter and the U-2 spyplane- and Hall Hibberd was an unusual aircraft with long booms housing each engine and the pilot and guns located in a central nacelle. Counter-rotating propellers eliminated torque problems and the cluster of guns allowed for accurate long-range shooting. The XP-38 first flew on Jan. 27 1939 and on Feb. 11 of that year set a transcontinental speed record by flying from California to New York in 7 hours 2 minutes. Following the record flight the Army ordered 13 YP-38 prototypes. With the P-38 capable of high speeds development was slowed by problems of compressibility and flutter since little was known at the time about flight with near-transonic airflow over parts of airframes. Top speed of the P-38 was 448 mph for the P-38L model. Armement included four .50-caliber machine guns a 20mm cannon and provisions for underwing rockets or bombs. Service deliveries of the P-38 began in 1941. The P-38 saw service in Europe where it gained the nickname fork-tailed devil by German pilots and soldiers. However it was in the Pacific where it found its greatest success. With its long-range and the redundancy provided by the two eng

This collectable model represents the C-46 Commando a twin-engine cargo lifter famous for its operations over the Hump in World War II. Able to lift twice the load of a C-47 the Commando continues in service today. Painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by skilled craftsmen using a wealth of detail this 1/72-scale model C-46 makes a great gift for any aviation enthusiast or history buff. Powered by two Wright Double Cyclones the C-46 made its first flight on March 25 1940. During the early production run the Cyclones were replaced by 2 000-hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radials giving it a strong performance envelope. The C-46 made its real mark in cargo operations over the Hump - the dangerous routes over the Himalayas in the China-Burma-India Theater. Its powerful -though thirsty - engines allowed it to fly higher than the C-47 Skytrain with larger payloads and a greater margin of safety. The Commando also known as the R5C in Marine Corps service saw extensive use in the Pacific theater. After World War II its relatively high operating costs kept the Commando limited to mostly cargo flights especially in remote areas where its performance in mountainous areas made it especially useful. The C-46 continued service in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was also used by the Central Intelligence Agency for resupply missions. Several C-46s continue to fly in cargo service today. Handcrafted Wood Desktop Model Plane. Handcrafted and Handpainted Mahogany Wood Model Plane. Classic Models/Home Decor. Scale: 1/72. Wing Span: 18 . Length: 14 .
