Walkera HM 4-3B 2.4G Brushless Motor Edition is a evolution of the well-known micro helicopter - 4#3B. It is equipped with High Performance Brushless Motor, Electronic Speed Controller, High Speed Tail Motor, Redesigned Body Frame, 2.4GHz advanced radio system, Metal Swashplate, Metal Blade Clamp and Metal Rotor Head. This is the latest 2.4Ghz Walkera 4-3, the super micro radio controlled helicopter, come in Ready-To-Fly package with all the necessary items inside. It is stable and easy to fly, you can learn how to fly it in 1-2 days. Its overall length is only 185mm controlled by 2 x 3.5g only micro servos. With compact 90 degree swash plate structure, the servo and other parts are easy to install. The tiny 4-in-1 controller is integrated with Receiver, ESC, Gyro and Mixer with high sensitivity and strong resistance to interference. The 4-channels 2.4Ghz transmitter with over 100+ channels allows you to find different 2.4Ghz at the same time without collision, also the power indication avoids the crash caused by lack of transmitter electricity. Walkera HM 4-3B Features The 4#3 comes with a small and simple layout thats very clean and robust. Everything flows really well, as the writing is organized and all the components are laid out with room to spare. Super mini servo (3g) is prompt and accurate in reaction; One cell Li-Po battery at 3.7V 400mAh offers 8- to 10-minute flight after fully charged; 4-channel transmitter with visible power indicator can avoid helicopter losing control due to the shortage of battery power, and support you to fly without any worry. ROTOR BLADE The main rotor blades are conventional plastic blades commonly found in fixed pitch designs, it is designed with a predetermined angle of attack and both blades are attached together in a single assembly. The blades also have a unique color scheme (which is breath of fresh air) and even contains a well- written warning. COMPONENT LAYOUT The 4#3 uses two small servos that mount to both sides of the frame with all aluminum tabs directly below the swash. The motor is mounted inverted, directly in front of the aluminum swash and on the frame itself. There is a designated battery tray that is mounted to the main frame which snugly holds the battery. The receiver mounts on a tray in the very front which screws to the frame. LANDING GEAR The one- piece landing gear consists of a very thin wire- like metal materials that runs through a small top on the bottom of the frame. It can also be disconnected from the loops in the back. HEADBLOCK The aluminum head block a small o- ring type damping system due to the over lapping style plastic blades, and it is clamped to the main shaft. It also utilizes a swiveling fly bar that is attached with small brass inserts. CANOPY The plastic canopy comes pre- painted with a black windshield and a red and black color scheme. It has two slits in the bottom where the landing gear slides in, and it utilizes two grommets on the back that attach to a single plastic rod. SWASHPLATE The all aluminum swash plates are bearing supported and because of the helis fixed pitch design it sits permanently in the same position. It is directly connected to only two servos with the use of integrated balls. It uses a anti rotation pin that slides freely in the anti rotation bracket. DESIGN The frame is a simple, small one piece plastic design. It consists of a servo driver and an input for an accelerometer that you attach to the servos output disk/arm. That input measures the pulse position so is also used to test receiver servo outputs. It also requires an external 8-12V DC supply. They suggest a 2S LiPo, but after using it I would recommend a 3S. The lower voltage just does not seem to have quite enough headroom to supply the 5V to drive the servo at higher currents. Most folks will probably be using the BEC from their ESC to drive the servos in any case see the three way cable description later. The inside of the accelerometer is just a sealed unit with a part number that I could not raise on the internet with an external diode and resistor. I suspect it is the same unit used in single axis piezo helicopter gyros. AEORC call the device a gyro and Ill do the same for simplicity. The only control is one of those 4-way joysticks with a centre push that you find on every compact digital camera. Long push to move between the 4 screens; up/down/sideways to select a value if appropriate; short push to turn the backlight on and off or start a test. In my view it would have been more logical to make the short push for menu change and long push for backlight/start. The backlight keeps going on and off when you dont want it to and on the other hand you have to dwell on a screen to change to the next one. This results in an unwanted test starting sometimes. No big deal, and doesnt detract from the functionality - just an irritation. In use, you just plug in the external battery, connect the servo and gyro and stick the gyro to the servo output disk or arm with foam tape. Alternatively you can use the gyro input to test transmitter stick range and centring. There are 4 functions on the tester: 1. Display of receiver output signal pulse width to the servo channels in thousandths of mS with a default neutral of 1.500mS (handy to very conveniently check how consistent the range and neutral your transmitter channels are). A servo-plug to servo-plug cable is supplied for this and you connect the gyro channel into each receiver output in turn. The supplied connectors are Futaba style and the ridges have to be cut off to allow the plugs to line up along the edge of the S1. Minor, but irritating. This menu must also be used to set the signal pulse width to give a 60 degree rotation (since the pulse length to do that may vary from servo to servo). 2. A cycle test that logs the number of repeating input cycles together with the number of output cycles recorded by the gyro (good for testing suspect servos). It reads up to 9999999999 cycles which for a 0.1sec servo would be a total test time of about 31 years if I have done the math correctly! 3. Measurement of servo travel linearity, which is really no more than setting up 2 or 3 servos side by side and comparing them as they are driven at the same time. 4. Measurement of servo speed, which is the uniquely useful and important function of this gadget. To measure servo speed, you first need to tell the S1 what pulse width gives 60 degrees rotation.
