MD-80 Model Planes ? The MD-80 Jet is a twin engine commercial aircraft that was popular with its introduction in the 1980s. McDonnell Douglas Aircraft manufactured the MD-80 for Alaska Airlines which flew to 92 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Looking for larger, more fuel efficient aircraft, Alaska Airlines has since retired its fleet of MD-80s and is expanding to the Boeing 737-900 aircraft. The model scale is 1/100th with an approximate 13 inch wingspan and about a 17 ½ inch length. It is crafted from molded resin and is a striking aviation gift. This authentic, extraordinary replica of the original aircraft has been faithfully reproduced using exact blueprint specifications. Each model is meticulously hand painted giving the aircraft a deep, rich finish. The result is a museum quality sculpture to be admired and is a magnificent collectible. The model is fully assembled and arrives with a display base. Send This Page To A Friend

What do bears really do in the woods? Find out in this charming full-color book by world-renowned wildlife photographers Erwin and Peggy Bauer, winners of the North American Photography Association's 2000 Lifetime Achievement Award. The Bauers -- who have been spying on wildlife for decades -- are from the old school of wildlife photography, spending hundreds of hours in the field and never using photo manipulation. The bears we meet in this intimate keepsake book are playful, handsome, ferocious, curious, hungry, protective -- and always intensely wild. From the remote beauty of a polar bear crossing the ice to the comical antics of a grizzly trying to satisfy an itch, bears capture our imagination like no other animal. This stunning portfolio of work has 75 full color photographs and covers such magnificent country as Katami National Park, Denali, and Kodiak Island. Included is information on bear-viewing safety and a basic natural history of each species.

Giants in the Dark - Winter on the Alaska Railroad The third in our 3-volume DVD series about the Alaska Railroad brings you a view of Alaskan railroading like no other, for it carries you along the rails in the dead of winter, when temperatures are minus 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and you're lucky if you see five hours of daylight. Photographer Patrick Hunstiger set up his studio lights and cameras to capture this incredible action in 1994. Now, with this new DVD release from Pentrex, you can experience powerful diesels challenging the cold, snow, and darkness, guiding freight and passenger trains through the frozen frontiers of the Alaskan wilds. Winter alters the way the Alaska Railroad does business. A busy summer week of up to 100 trains a week will drop to 25 during the winter. However, the spectacular drama of railroading in Alaska is undiminished. GP40-2s, GP49s, a GP30, F7-B, E8-B, and MP15 are seen spewing show from the rails, sliding through the darkness while snow flurries cover the cabs, and hauling their trains past ice clogged-bays and jagged white peaks. Approaching the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood aboard the Ski Train is a magical sight for the mountain is lit for night skiing, but for the most part what you'll see is the bitter cold, the heavy storms, and the dangers facing the men and equipment in a land of perpetual darkness. It's an extraordinary insight into a type of railroading that few dare to face. **NOTE: Description and image provided by Train Video Depot. ... Read more
More than twenty years ago, a disillusioned college graduate named Peter Jenkins set out with his dog Cooper to look for himself and his nation. His memoir of what he found, A Walk Across America, captured the hearts of millions of Americans. Now, Peter is a bit older, married with a family, and his journeys are different than they were. Perhaps he is looking for adventure, perhaps inspiration, perhaps new communities, perhaps unspoiled land. Certainly, he found all of this and more in Alaska, America's last wilderness.Looking for Alaska is Peter's account of eighteen months spent traveling over twenty thousand miles in tiny bush planes, on snow machines and snowshoes, in fishing boats and kayaks, on the Alaska Marine Highway and the Haul Road, searching for what defines Alaska. Hearing the amazing stories of many real Alaskans--from Barrow to Craig, Seward to Deering, and everywhere in between--Peter gets to know this place in the way that only he can. His resulting portrait is a rare and unforgettable depiction of a dangerous and beautiful land and all the people that call it home. He also took his wife and eight-year-old daughter with him, settling into a "home base" in Seward on the Kenai Peninsula, coming and going from there, and hosting the rest of their family for extended visits. The way his family lived, how they made Alaska their home and even participated in Peter's explorations, is as much a part of this story as Peter's own travels. All in all, Jenkins delivers a warm, funny, awe-inspiring, and memorable diary of discovery-both of this place that captures all of our imaginations, and of himself, all over again.

Recorded on St Lawrence Island by Miriam C. Stryker in 1966 this album features songs from the Yupik Eskimos that have long occupied the Island and who live in two separate villages Savoonga and Gambell. Eskimo legend tells of the Island's formation: The Sea Goddess, picking up a handful of ooze from the bottom of the sea, squeezed it between her fingers, forming mountains that are part of its interesting terrain. This rugged terrain means a hard life for a people who live off the land. The songs relate through subjects such as hunting, fishing, boats, animals and the like. The lyrics are often very sparse and sometimes the song consists solely of chanted syllables. Liner notes include history of the Yupik Eskimos and song information.
