Columbo - The Complete First Season TV detective fans rejoice: Peter Falk's rumpled and infallible Lt. Columbo joins the DVD precinct with a five-disc set that features the detective's first nine appearances for NBC. Though Falk as Columbo (no first name) made his TV debut in 1967, the detective had actually first appeared on an episode of the 1960-61 Chevy Mystery Show (Bert Freed played the role) written by veteran TV scribes Richard Levinson and William Link (The Fugitive, Alfred Hitchcock Presents). The pair turned the episode into a stage play titled Prescription: Murder, which was adapted into a TV movie in 1967 with Falk in the lead. NBC greenlit a two-hour Columbo pilot (Ransom for a Dead Man) in 1971, and the series was launched that fall as part of the NBC Sunday Mystery Movie, a rotating 90-minute program that alternated Columbo with episodes of MacMillan and Wife and McCloud (another Levinson/Link creation). Viewers were quickly won over by Falk's shrewd performance as he matched wits with a host of exceptional guest stars (including Gene Barry, Patrick McGoohan, and others), all of whom assumed that the disheveled detective would never figure out their "perfect crimes"; the popularity and quality of the original series allows Falk to continue to don the trenchcoat some 30 years later for occasional Columbo TV movies. All seven 90-minute episodes of the 1971-72 debut season are included here, along with Prescription: Murder and Ransom for a Dead Man; unfortunately, as the lieutenant himself would say, "Oh, just one more thing"--no extras are included in the set, but having these fine TV mysteries in one set should be reward enough for armchair sleuths. --Paul Gaita Columbo - The Complete Second Season Armchair sleuths, get out your trenchcoats: Universal has released the sophomore season (1972-73) of the classic detective series Columbo, starring Peter Falk as the sage but rumpled police lieutenant. As with the first season, there's plenty of star power in front of and behind the camera to abet Falk in these eight 90- and 120-minute episodes: John Cassavetes stars in the season premiere, Etude in Black, as a philandering symphony conductor, with Blythe Danner and Hollywood legend Myrna Loy in support; Oscar winner Ray Milland is a scheming orchid grower in The Greenhouse Jungle, co-starring Bradford Dillman and William Smith; Robert Culp and Dean Stockwell are a football team manager and owner, respectively, whose disagreements blossom into murder in The Most Crucial Game; and Jeanette Nolan offers stellar comic relief in Double Shock, which features Martin Landau as identical twins--one of whom has murdered their uncle. Performances by Richard Basehart, Laurence Harvey, Leonard Nimoy, Anne Francis, Anne Baxter, and Mel Ferrer also highlight the season; direction by small-screen stalwarts like Boris Sagal, Jeremy Paul Kagan, and Nicholas Colasanto ("Coach" on Cheers) and scripts by Stephen Bochco also bring quality and style to the proceedings. Sadly, no extras are available in this five-disc set, but the stellar image and sound quality (and lack of commercials) should appeal to series fans and newcomers alike. --Paul Gaita Columbo - The Complete Third Season Oh, just one more thing, mystery mavens--get ready to be mystified and entertained by the award-winning third season of Columbo, starring Peter Falk as the rumpled but unbeatable Lieutenant. Having taken home Emmys for outstanding limited drama and lead actor in its '71-'72 debut season, Columbo was again named best drama for its third season ('73-'74). The reason for the repeat success? The formula remained the same: intelligent, engaging scripts and direction, guest performances by top actors, and, of course, Falk at center stage as Columbo, the most unlikely of supersleuths, but unquestionably one of the sharpest (the role would later earn Falk three more Emmys between 1975 and 1990). The 10 episodes compiled in this two-disc set again feature top tal

Angel - Season One He's hunky, he's brooding, he's a do-gooder, and he was Buffy's first boyfriend. Angel, the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul, got his own series after three seasons on Buffy the Vampire Slayerand did what any new star might do: he moved to L.A. (the City of Angels--get it?) and set up shop. Angel (co-created by Buffy mastermind Joss Whedon) finds the titular vampire (David Boreanaz) as a kind of supernatural private investigator, fighting evil one case at a time and, like his ex-girlfriend, keeping the world from getting destroyed by vengeful demons and such. This first season features guest appearances by various Buffy characters, including werewolf boy Oz (Seth Green), rogue slayer Faith (Eliza Dushku), deliciously evil vamp Darla (Julie Benz), and Buffy herself (Sarah Michelle Gellar), all of whom helped get the show off and running in style. Angel - Season Two The second season of Angel, saw the cult vampire show finally stand on its own from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, assembling all the members of the show's core cast, transferring the action to a fashionably run-down L.A. hotel, and bringing in a few Buffy characters from Angel's history to further establish the moody vampire's own mythology. Moving their Angel Investigations to posher digs, Angel (David Boreanaz), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), and Wesley (Alexis Denisof) were soon joined by street fighter (J. August Richards)–-and by street fighter, of course we mean demon street fighter. But just as this group was solidifying, up popped Angel's old love, Darla (the fantastic Julie Benz), freshly arrived in L.A. from a hell dimension… just in time to be turned into a vampire again by her old cohort, Drusilla (Juliet Landau), and lure Angel into abandoning his newly formed team. Angel - Season Three In the third season of Angel, the titular vampire with a soul was forced to stand alone thanks to the (temporary) death of his beloved Buffy and her show's move to a new network, with no crossover between the two allowed. He returns from seeking peace in a demon-haunted monastery to find the L.A. Angel Investigations team fighting supernatural crime in his absence. Fred is still haunted by the nightmare dimension from which they rescued her; Cordelia's visions get ever more painful and debilitating. The schemes of the evil law firm Wolfram and Hart become every more imaginative and dragon lady Lilah Morgan becomes even more of an enemy when lusting after Angel. Unbelievably, Darla, Angel's vampire sire and lover, turns up, pregnant with his child and is tortured by inexplicable motherly feelings as well as a raging thirst for human blood. Angel - Season Four As the fourth season of Angel, starts, everything is still as we left it: Angel has been sunk to the bottom of the sea in an iron box by his inexplicable and vindictive son Connor and Cordelia has been summoned to higher realms to await orders. Gunn and Fred are left in the Hyperion Hotel, unsure about what has happened to their friends, and Lilah is working hard to seduce Wesley to the dark side. In the first few episodes, some of this is resolved but it's almost immediately replaced by far worse crises: prophesies of doom accumulate more rapidly even than usual in this wonderfully gloomy show and a horned rock-like beast rains fire on Los Angeles. This last year is Angel’s most tightly dramatic season yet--with a story arc of surprising intensity punctuated by the show's usual wit and sexiness. Angel - Season Five Lives were upended--and some co-opted--in the fifth and final season of Angel, as the denizens of Angel Investigations found themselves taking on one of their scariest endeavors ever: corporate life. After making a literal deal with the devil (or something distinctly devil-like), Angel (David Boreanaz) moved his team from their crumbling hotel to the high-rise digs of law-firm-from-hell Wolfram & Hart, his reasoning being they could better fight the forces of

This frightfully fascinating five-DVD set chronicles the history of movie horror from the earliest experimental chillers through the unforgettable "golden age of movie monsters" and on through today's graphic horror films in 26 horrific, half-hour shows. Hosted by Christopher Lee, the screen's legendary King of Horror, the series features appearances by Robert De Niro, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hugh Hefner, Charlton Heston, Kenneth Branagh, Joe Dante, and many more. Also featured are rare interviews with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Claude Rains. Included as a special bonus are never-before-seen interviews with the friends and families of the legendary names of horror such as Bela Lugosi, Jr.; Boris Karloff's daughter, Sarah Karloff; Claude Rains' daughter, Jessica Rains, and more. The collection also includes chilling scenes from such classics as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Phantom Of The Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as more recent chillers such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Halloween, Poltergeist, and The Haunting. Plus home movies from the sets of horror classics, outtakes, screen tests, previously "lost" films, and other exciting surprises. Easily the most interesting and informative horror chronology ever assembled. DISC ONE Dracula and His Disciples - There's more to Dracula than just Bela Lugosi, as the cinema's various incarnations of the carnal count are examined. Blood-Drinking Beings - Dracula wasn't the only blood-sucker immortalized on film. Here is some of his "competition." Frankenstein's Friends - Karloff's career was defined by his sympathetic portrayal of "the monster," but others took on this challenging role over the years. This fascinating installment tells the story behind Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's timeless tale. Baron Frankenstein - Hammer Films "reanimated" the Frankenstein franchise in the 1950s with its terrifying teaming of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as doctor and "patient." Take a look at how this classic story changed in the '50s, '60s - and beyond. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of good and evil has been a filmic favorite since early silent days. Various portrayals of the dual doctor are examined. DISC TWO Werewolves - Of course there's Lon Chaney Jr. as The Wolf Man, but other films have featured werewolves in surprising ways over the years. Bela Lugosi - Lugosi was much more than Count Dracula, as you'll see in this fascinating salute to this complex Hungarian actor. Boris Karloff - Perhaps horror's greatest star, Karloff, of course, played the Frankenstein monster. But there's so much more to tell. Here's an affectionate look at this cultured Englishman. Ghosts - Nothing like a good ghost story - except a century's worth of films filled with more ghost stories! Phantoms - Lon Chaney Sr. was the original Phantom of the Opera, but there have been other notable portrayals - and other notable phantoms! DISC THREE Witches - Witches have been a favorite of fairy tales - and fright films - for centuries. Here's a wicked look at a coven's worth of portrayals. Demons - More than just the Devil (although The Prince of Darkness has certainly figured into quite a few motion pictures), demons have been a mainstay of horror films since the silent days. Mutants - Abominable snowmen, mole people, creatures from black lagoons. All these half-human/half-beast "hybrids" are here - and more! Freaks - Horror films have been peppered with people who didn't need makeup and were actually born disfigured, most notably in the film Freaks. Take a look at those who managed to turn their misfortune into something of a career. Scream Queens - King Kong's Fay Wray is probably the most famous scream queen of the horror genre, but you'll be surprised to see who else made the list! DISC FOUR Girl Ghouls - M

Hansa is respected the world over for its finely crafted collection of our planetÕs animal kingdom. Originally created for exclusive European collectors, each plush animal is meticulously handcrafted from portraits of real animals in their natural habitat. By themselves, or paired with other Hansa Animals, these marvelous creatures make wonderful best friends for children, adults, and collectors alike. In addition, interior designers the world over often turn to Hansa animals when designing unique, one-of-a-kind spaces. Display them in groups, or use their large, signature animals to set the theme of a room.HansaÕs chief designer pulls from his background in anatomy when researching each animal. The fabric used for the spotted and striped animals is all custom designed to HansaÕs exacting specifications in small quantites. And all of the fabric used is hand-cut from intricate patterns and hand-trimmed by Hansa artisans, never stamped out by machines. An average of 42 seperate pieces are used for each small animal (some animals have as many as 240 different pieces). The face and body of each Hansa Animal is carefully sculpted inside-out to create their distinct features and musculature that are unique to each animal. And each face is hand finished, which means that each animal is unique Ð just as in real life. And every Hansa animal comes with a ÒToys that TeachÓ tag describing each animalÕs habitat, lifestyle, gestation period, care of their young and eating habits. HansaÕs goal is to help educate children and adults alike about the natural lives of these magnificent creatures, and to understand, respect and appreciate the importance of our co-existence with all animals.

This book tells the complex saga of a sports car that was created in the early 1960s as a result of an unlikely collaboration between a plain-talking ex-racing driver from Texas and a conservative British automobile manufacturer, funded by one of the giants of the industry, the Ford Motor Company. Carroll Shelby, AC Cars, and Ford came together to create a car called the Cobra, based on the AC Ace roadster that had been in production since 1954. When the Shelby Cobra was created, it was far from state-of-the-art, but the use of a new series of Ford V8 engines saw the lightweight car annihilate the Chevrolet Corvette in American sports car racing. By adding aerodynamic bodywork, the Daytona Cobra Coupe arrived in Europe to contest the FIA World Championship and took victory in the GT category in 1965, making Shelby American the first (and only) USA-based manufacturer to achieve this feat. In order to capitalize on this success, even greater power was required and the car was developed to take a huge 7-liter engine that proved to be a triumph of horsepower over handling – thus the 427 Cobra became an overnight legend, establishing new performance records and creating a reputation for being more than a little tricky to drive. The era of the Cobra was brief – production ended at Shelby American during 1966 and at AC Cars in 1968 where they built their own final version, the AC289 Sports. Just over 1000 Cobras were built during that time but the final cars proved difficult to sell, their vintage qualities deterring potential owners. Carroll Shelby closed his company and went to Africa while AC developed other models, but the Cobra was not quite finished yet. Within a matter of a few years, a new market for the car was created as the demand for affordable kit cars grew. The most popular model by far was the Cobra and many thousands were built, with the result that both AC Cars and Carroll Shelby put their own versions back into production. And then the arguments really started… If it was an improbable car over forty years ago, it is even more implausible today, but the remarkable Cobra, in one form or another, is still with us. It may be dead, but it just won’t lie down!

HOMIES SERIES 7 FIGURINES!! THIS IS THE 7th PUT OUT BY DAVID GONZALES CREATOR OF THE HOMIES. The Homies are a group of tightly knit Chicano buddies who have grown up in the Mexican American barrio (neighborhood) of "Quien Sabe", (who knows) located in East Los Angeles. The four main characters are Hollywood, Smiley, Pelon, and Bobby Loco. Their separate and distinct personalities and characteristics together make up a single, composite entity that is the "HOMIES." In an inner-city world plagued by poverty, oppression, violence, and drugs, the Homies have formed a strong and binding cultural support system that enables them to overcome the surrounding negativity and allows for laughter and good times as an anecdote for reality. The word "Homies" itself is a popular street term that refers to someone from your hometown or, in a broader sense, anyone that you would acknowledge as your friend. In use in the West Coast Latino community for decades, the word "Homies" has crossed over into the now mainstream Hip-Hop street culture that has taken America's young people by storm.

Miss Mountford bid farewell to Mister Sponge the Auctioneer. Well - who would have thought it? Uncle Cedric leaving her such a treasure in his will! That old vase that stood in the window at the top of the stairs was, she now knew, one of the finest and rarest examples remaining of Bong Dynasty china. Uncle Cedric had been something of a traveler and had bought back all sorts of eccentricities from around the globe. One of the less appealing souvenirs - which she had also inherited - was his collection of geckos from the jungles of Borneo. Her cat Montague was an accomplished policeman if one should "accidentally" escape from the reptile tank. Meanwhile the yellow-banded ridgeback thought he'd found the perfect refuge and made for the vase at the top of the stairs. Surely Montague would not find him there? On the interior is a bird's nest. The signature acorn hangs from a vine. The number "97" indicates that this is the 97th piece David Lawrence has carved for Harmony Kingdom.

For 50 years Mopar has been synonymous with performance and style. Mopar Muscle is a gorgeously illustrated tribute to these cars. It is studded with color photographs of these amazing machines and their evolution from two-and-one-half-ton behemoths into nimble, high-performance sport compacts. Full of rich detail and stories of the personalities behind the automobiles, Mopar Muscle is a must-have for all muscle car fans.In 1955, Chrysler introduced the first of its famed 300 "letter series" cars. Into this stylish car they stuffed a dual-quad equipped Hemi engine rated at 300 horsepower-giving birth to the American muscle car. The 1955 C-300 created the performance wave that manufacturers would attempt to ride throughout the 1950s. When the Detroit performance wars began in earnest during the 1960s, Chrysler was ready with Max Wedge and Hemi cars that dominated the drag strips and NASCAR high banks. Throughout the 1960s, Chrysler gave its customers Road Runners, 'Cudas, R/Ts, and Charger nameplates backed by legendary Hemi and Six Pack engines. Adding to the car's muscular image were vibrant colors, functional hood scoops, and bold stripes. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, these cars attracted crowds at drive-ins and embarrassed the competition on the streets. Mopars were the baddest cars on the boulevard and have become enduring icons of the muscle car era. In the 1990s, Chrysler rekindled its muscle car fire by producing the red hot Viper. Then they stoked that fire with the sizzling Neon SRT-4 and Viper powered Ram SRT-10. After introducing the exciting new Crossfire sports car, Chrysler created an SRT-6 performance version. Chrysler then introduced the modern American muscle car with the release of its new Hemi engine packaged in the stunning 2005 Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum RT. In incredible photos and informative text, the entire legacy of Mopar is chronicled in this beautiful coffee table book.

Cecilia’s Year is the first title in Cinco Puntos’ new series, Latino YA Fiction. This lovely young adult novel follows in the classic tradition of Little House on the Prairie.Fourteen-year old Maria Cecilia Gonzales is a dreamer. She’s smart, for one thing, and she loves to read. Her books carry her far away, beyond the purple and blue mountains of the farm community she lives in—to high school and then on to a job in the big city. But something stands in the way of her dreams. Cecilia is the second of six children and her oldest brother Elias doesn’t like to study and isn’t interested in going to high school. And, since it’s the 1930s, just after the Depression, and since Cecilia and her family live in the quiet Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico, Cecilia’s stern mother won’t let her go to high school unless Elias goes. That would cause Elias to lose face in their tight-knit community. And anyway, Cecilia’s mother thinks her daughter’s highest aim should be to run a home—to cook and sew and to raise children. Elias’ only ambition is to be a farmer and no amount of cajoling by Cecilia seems to change his mind.As Cecilia struggles to fulfill her goals, she experiences a deep appreciation for her family and the first tender feelings of romantic love. Susan and Denise Gonzales Abraham have woven the story of Cecilia’s dreams into the months of the year, the land and the crops, and the routine life on a farm. The real Cecilia is Susan and Denise’s mother. This, their first novel, is a tribute to her and to the deep roots of their family in rural New Mexico. The sisters live and work as educators in El Paso, Texas.

In his "Lives of the Artists", Vasari wrote: "While we may term other works paintings, those of Raphael are living things, the flesh palpitates, the breath comes and goes, every organ lives, life pulsates everywhere." In this extensively illustrated book featuring some 300 illustrations, the author takes a critical look at the life and work of Rafaello Sanzio, or as he signed certain paintings, Raphael Urbinas, in homage to his native city of Urbino. Described as "an artist touched by grace," he is considered, along with Michelangelo and Leonardo, to be one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance. Raphael (1483-1520), whose birth and death were on a Good Friday, belonged to a family of merchants; aside from his training in the studio of Perugino, little is known about his earliest years. He arrived in Florence in 1504, where he studied the masters and produced magnificent paintings of the Madonna, as well as remarkable portraits. In 1508 he went to Rome, where he died a dozen years later at the height of his powers, after creating monumental works at the Vatican. De Vecchi re-examines the scholarship surrounding each of the major periods of Raphael's short career, dispelling the myths about him that have accumulated over the centuries. He reminds us that the most "profound" element of Raphael's art was his striving to express the dialectic between earthly and heavenly love, an important concern of his contemporaries. The coverage of the text extends beyond the paintings to Raphael's significant work as an architect and designer of interiors.
