Welcome to Breakthrough On Skis III - The New Skis, my third video ski lesson, an in-depth exploration of the new generation of super-sidecut or shaped skis. Creating this video was almost as exciting as my own encounter with these remarkable new skis. I worked with a handful of great skiing friends--all of them, like me, absolutely smitten, totally converted and enthusiastic about these new skis. I asked my gifted cameraman, Edgar Boyles, to zoom in, closer than ever, on what takes place between our skis and the snow. Edgar outdid himself and produced, I think, the clearest, most revealing shots of ski-snow interaction I've ever seen. I'm hoping that his exceptional cinematography, together with my explanations, will give you a fresh vision of what really happens down at the snow level, where skier meets mountain. Just as I did for my previous video ski lessons, in this booklet I want to offer you a few more tips, a few practical suggestions on how you can get the greatest benefit from this new Breakthrough on Skis videotape. Let me start with a bold statement: I think these new skis are the most important development in skiing in the last twenty years. A lot of skiers whom I've skied with and worked with recently have told me they weren't very eager to switch to the new super-sidecut skis. "What's wrong with my old skis?" they asked. "They turn great. I really love them." The answer is simple. There is nothing wrong with older, traditionally designed skis. But the new skis, if treated right, open the door to a level of on-snow performance that, previously, skiers could only dream about but never really achieve. In my own case, I know I'm skiing better today, on super-sidecut skis, than I ever thought I could...and I was an expert skier to begin with. Besides, this new design for skis--significantly wider at the tip and tail, and proportionately narrower at the center or waist--is her to stay. These skis are not a fad. This is the way skis are now being designed and built. Sooner or later, you will be looking for new skis, and when you do, you'll find that traditional ski designs will have virtually disappeared. The reason that this new design for skis has won such widespread acceptance is simple. Deep-sidecut skis really do make everything easier.

With most ski makers technology starts in the race room and then trickles down everywhere else. So what do you do if you have no race department like Armada, you take the shapes from your renowned park skis and do things backwards and the end result is an all mountain crusher called the Triumph. A true departure from big mountain and freestyle skis Armada is known for, the Triumph is not a full twin and has Titanal Laminates to created enormous amounts of edge hold and a strong finish to the turn. Sticking to the technology they know best the Triumph uses the AR50 sidewall construction for a centered swing weight and very nimble feel along with the Hybrid Double Zone core for tremendous torsional stiffness for instant response. While Armada admits most Triumphs will never see a race course they made sure it would be ready with a Comp Series base to give the Triumph the best possible glide available. Wrapped around the ski is a 1.7 Impact edge to keep weight down as the Triumph is not really meant for sliding rails. With the dimensions of a pure-bred racer the Triumph will turn exactly when and where you want it to no matter how icy, so whether you are running beer league from time to time or just want stand out get on the Triumph and give 'er. Features: 1.7 Impact Edge - Standard Size With Additional Heat Treating To Keep Weight Down And Durability Up. Atomic Access Skis 2012 - The Access design is far from sim

Atomic Access Skis 2012 - The Access design is far from simple! Atomic has incorporated an enormous amount of technology in a package that can handle the entire mountain. Starting with a 100mm waist and an open turn radius, the Access establishes a platform that screams all mountain versatility, but Atomic doesn't stop there. Atomic takes Power Rocker 10 and slaps it on top. A combination of rocker and early rise in the tip and tail, with camber underfoot, gives the Access a short effective edge in longer lengths. Translation, you can ride a wide ski designed for powder a longer length for increased flotation in powder with the bonus of having excellent edge hold on hard pack due to the camber construction of the skis. The use of a Step Down Sidewall L2 leaves the skier with a cap and sidewall hybrid ski. Two layers of vertical sidewall underfoot extend towards the tip and tail but become a more forgiving cap as the ski reaches the ends of it length. So whether you're looking to push the limits on a backcountry kicker or tear up any inbounds and side country terrain, the Access will open doors for it all. . Tip/Waist/Tail Widths: 130/100/122mm (@ 181cm), Actual Turn Radius @ Specified Length: 20m (@ 181cm), Warranty: One Year, Type: All-Mountain Wide Skis (91-110), Gender: Mens, What Binding is Included?: None, Construction Type: Cap/Sidewall, Core Material: Wood, Base Material: Sintered, Tail Profile: Twin, Special Features: Powder Rocker, Special Features: Step Down Sidewalls, Bindings Included: No, Binding DIN: None, Rocker: Tip Rocker/Camber, Binding Weight Range: None, Race: No, Twin Tip: No, Alpine Touring: No, Used: No, Titanium: No, Turn Radius: 16-20, Waist Width: 96-105mm, Skill Range: Advanced - Expert, Model Year: 2012, Product ID: 220253

Developed as a pure park and pipe ski the Kennedy is perfectly balanced with a symmetrical core flex. Built with a full vertical sidewall the Kennedy has tremendous edge hold for gripping in the half pipe or setting spins on booters as well as a clean carving ride outside of the terrain park. By sticking to traditional camber and the Matrix Core, a poplar core with a torsional box underfoot for stability and a buttery tip and tail, the Kennedy also has the pop needed for huge ollies onto rails and the energy for when it is time to boost with buttery flex for buttering and pressing. While the sidecut of the Kennedy isn't symmetrical it is set to be the most narrow at true center and has even height tips and tails. These both make for a very well balanced feel in the air, for locking onto rails and boxes, and to keep the Kennedy feeling the same switch as it does forward, but still allow the ski to have a slightly directional feel for performance when you are hitting the half pipe or just freeskiing. Anti-chipping sidewalls and a full wrap metal edge help add durability to the Kennedy so it can hold up to a whole season of being thrashed in the park. Mid Flex, buttery smooth and great control forward or switch the Kennedy is a do-all ski for park and all mountain freestyle riders. Features: Anti-Chipping Sidewalls, Full Wrap One Piece Edge, Die Cut Base. Tip/Waist/Tail Widths: 114/82/106mm, Actual Turn Radius @ Specified Length: 18m (@ 183cm), Warranty: One Year, Type: Freestyle Skis, Gender: Mens, What Binding is Included?: None, Construction Type: Sidewall, Core Material: Wood, Base Material: Sintered, Tail Profile: Twin, Special Features: Matrix Core, Special Features: Zero Sidecut Setback, Bindings Included: No, Binding DIN: None, Rocker: Camber, Binding Weight Range: None, Race: No, Twin Tip: Yes, Alpine Touring: No, Used: No, Titanium: No, Turn Radius: 16-20, Waist Width: 76-85mm, Skill Range: Advanced - Pro, Model Year: 2012, Product ID: 245069

Built on a versatile 88mm platform the BMX 88 is both very quick edge to edge with the ability to rip arcs down groomers and hardpacked and wide enough to float over crud and light powder with grace and control. With a full vertical sidewall and tip to tail wood core the BMX 88 has the makings of a powerful and unruly ski but has Kastle has seemed to tame the 88 down where it prefers smooth and driving arcs with a seemingly effortless transition edge to edge. When you take this ultra smooth hardpacked carve off the trail it still shines through with slight early rise in the tip and low camber for tremendous maneuverability and good flotation while doing most of the work for you. Using a dual radius sidecut allows you to vary the turn shape of the BMX 88 at any moment without the ski rearing up or fighting back, it simply lets you flex through and drive it where ever you please and a rubber damping layer eats up vibration so the ride is as smooth as the BMX 88. For the skier that wants off piste versatility but splits time evenly between hard and soft snow the BMX 88 is a ski that can handle the workload with a level of grace and ease you would expect from a top end small ski builder. Features: Dual Big Mountain Turn Radius - Better Control In All Conditions, Dual Hollowtech - Less Weight And Better Response. Tip/Waist/Tail Widths: 122/88/110mm, Actual Turn Radius @ Specified Length: 20m (@ 178cm), Warranty: One Year, Type: All-Mountain Skis (75-90), Gender: Mens, What Binding is Included?: None, Construction Type: Sidewall, Core Material: Wood, Base Material: Sintered, Tail Profile: Flared, Special Features: Hollowtech Tip And Tail, Special Features: Edge Rubber, Bindings Included: No, Binding DIN: None, Rocker: Tip Rocker/Camber, Binding Weight Range: None, Race: No, Twin Tip: No, Alpine Touring: No, Used: No, Titanium: No, Turn Radius: 16-20, Waist Width: 86-95mm, Skill Range: Advanced - Pro, Model Year: 2013, Product ID: 240675
