The Laconia Short Sword is named after feared warriors of Sparta who ruled the region of Greece. It is a potent weapon that was superb in the brutality of ancient hand-to-hand combat. The sword was shorter than the ancient Athenian version in order to encourage the Lacedaemonian Spartan warrior to use more thrusting attacks at the trunk and groin of his opponent. Such attacks would have been especially effective when the armies opposing the Lacedaemonian had started to discard their body amour. This historic version of the Laconian Short Sword was reproduced from the famed book, "The Spartan Army." The leaf-shaped blade is of hand-forged high carbon steel, tempered for strength and meticulously polished to a superb finish. Featuring a bronze grip and leather-covered hardwood scabbard, this is one of the strongest and finest swords available. Hand-crafted by the famed metalsmiths at Windlass Steelcrafts. The Sword of the Knights of Malta is named for the battle in which the Medieval Knights of St. John turned back a huge Ottoman flotilla. This magnificent sword features a steel pommel with a deeply carved Cross of the Brotherhood, symbolizing the knights devotion and giving a point of prayer to the embattled soldiers. The protective crossguard is also crafted of solid steel. The hand-forged, high carbon steel blade is sturdy and well balanced for a solid cut-and-thrust approach. The grooved hardwood grip is hand-covered in genuine stitched leather that s hand-rubbed to a deep luster. The scabbard features a custom wood sheath covered in thick leather to match the grip, with steel fittings that allow the sword to hang at a rakish angle, which was the fashion of the day. The original scimitar sword was called a shamshir (meaning "lion's tail") and featured a strongly curved blade that was almost a half circle. Developed in Persia, this type of blade was effective for draw-cuts but other than that, it was of limited utility. This caused the blade to shift its shape into a more useful version, which we have chosen to reproduce from the famed Hank Reinhardt collection. This blade is quite effective, being able to draw-cut as well as slash, and the point is quite useful when employing a "hooking" thrust. The high-quality sword blade is of hand-forged high carbon steel, tempered for strength and meticulously polished to a superb finish. Hand-crafted by the famed metalsmiths at Windlass Steelcrafts.
