The results of the professional tasting event 'shocked' the amateur panel from an earlier attempt at judging the Mansinthe. The stark difference between the trained palette of a professional spirits taster and that of unqualified bloggers, demonstrates why consumers should be wary of accepting the tasting opinion of unskilled amateurs.The traditional herbal liqueur of absinthe is currently celebrating a huge renaissance. The international demand for the official Marilyn Manson absinthe, 'Mansinthe', has surprised even Markus Lion from ABSINTHE.DE. He developed the liqueur together with the American shock rocker and a well-known specialist Swiss distillery.Teningen, 20th August 2007. Absinthe was invented at the end of the 18th century, in Val-de-Travers in the Swiss province of Jura. It is traditionally made of vermouth, aniseed, fennel and a range of other herbs. In the mid 19th century, absinthe was the drink of Bohemia. Artists such as Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Vincent van Gogh regarded 'the green fairy' as a source of inspiration. The same is true for Marilyn Manson, who has been known as an absinthe lover for many years. There, a limited special edition of Mansinthe was sold at prices of between 300 Euro and 500 Euro - all numbered and with a special label of a watercolour by Marilyn Manson. Just like prototype 35 (a previous version), this collectors' piece quickly sold out.In order to deliver orders from Germany, Australia, England, Italy, France, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands on time, the Matter-Luginbuhl family business has expanded its capacity. Tun 1401 is a very special vatting from the Balvenie's Warehouse 24, one of the oldest areas of the distillery grounds and home to some of the most special casks in Speyside. It was conceived by the Balvenie's malt master David Stewart, who was so inspired by the magical atmosphere inside Warehouse 24, that he created Tun 1401 to capture the essence of it in a bottle.There are 4 batches of Tun 1401, each with unique characteristics and ingredients. They were made under the guidance of Mr. Stewart, who hand selected every cask and monitored each batch as they 'married' over a three month period.The first batch was made for distillery visitors only, and was created from 6 casks - a 1973 Sherry Butt, a 1972 Sherry Hogshead and American casks from 1966, 1974, 1978 and 1988.Batch 2 was released only in Europe, Asia, and South Africa and is made up of 10 casks, mostly from the 1970s with one from the 1960s and one from the 1980s.Batch 3 is a similar to batch 2, but was made for US distribution only.Batch 4 was made for travel retail and is still marrying inside Warehouse 24 (as of late October '11), where it will stay until the end of the year. Mr Stewart normally allows three months for the marrying period, but batch four will marry for a total of four months.When asked how he expects the batches to differ, Mr Stewart said, 'the batches do have some similarity but if one were to line the four batches up for sampling, which I haven't done yet, we might be surprised by the differences that there are. And since mandarin and orange are among the most popular flavors in the world, ABSOLUT MANDRIN was received with the same enthusiasm as the rest of the family members.ABSOLUT MANDRIN is made exclusively from natural ingredients, and unlike most other flavored vodkas, it doesn't contain any added sugar. It's complex, smooth and mellow with a fruity mandarin and orange character mixed with a note of orange peel. In 1879, Lars Olsson Smith introduced the continuous distillation with which he made Absolut Rent Branvin (Absolute Pure Vodka). Instead of the usual three or four times, the vodka was distilled an infinite number of times. ABSOLUT MANDRIN is made the same way, the only difference is the taste of orange, mandarin and citrus. And, like the rest of the family, it's produced in Ahus, L.O. Smith's birth town. Since nothing of that will change, neither will the true taste of ABSOLUT MANDRIN.The main ingredients in ABSOLUT MANDRIN are ABSOLUT VODKA and orange, mandarin and citrus flavor. ABSOLUT VODKA is made from water and winter wheat. The water comes from a deep well in Ahus where it's protected from impurities. The winter wheat is also grown in Ahus and differs from other crops: it's sown in fall, and harvested the next one. Days in between it grows under the Swedish snow developing its hard grain.
