Samsung BD-D5700 Blu-Ray DVD Player
I bought this BluRay player from TigerDirect for $99.99 about 30 days ago. At first I was very impressed with the touch screen functions on the face of the machine. I went to sync the remote to my Panasonic 50" LCD Projection TV. I tried all four Panasonic codes, but none of them would work. The TV was manufactured in 2004, so I was surprised that the Samsung remote could not control it.
The menus and controls are fairly intuitive and the set up went OK. It linked up with my wireless router with no problem. It is sort of slow responding to various Internet functions.
The real problem started when I went to YouTube and started viewing videos. I tried to watch one about zip lining in West Virginia, and the display all of a sudden split into two identical views of the video...like it was in split screen. When I exited out of that view, the Internet menu had large sections blacked out. I tried powering it off and back on, but the Intgernet menu was still not complete -- only about 20% of the screen could be seen.
I called customer service and they had be do a factory reset. Once I entered in all of the wireless data again, it worked fine. I tried that same vidoe again, and the system went screwy again. Called customer service again. This rep stated that it was because I was using a surge protector. She said I should plug it directly into the wall. Did the whole reset drill again. Tried that video one last time, and it, once again, fouled up.
Customer service has no idea why it is doing this orwhy this particular YouTube video is causing problems. I upgraded to the latest firmware release, but it has not resolved the issue. I have no idea how many other videos will cause this problem. Buyer beware...
Disappointing experience with this BluRay Player

Pros: Great looking BluRay player, nice touch screen controls, easy remote
Cons: Remote won't control Panasonic TV, severe software bug on YouTube
The Bottom Line:
With the software bug and the failure of the remote to control a popular TV, I'm not sure I can recommend this device at this time.
