Oil Property Valuation By PAUL PAINE. PREFACE: Published accounts of the valuation of oil properties have been con cerned chiefly with the important element of the oil and gas contents of lands. Less attention has been given to those other influences which affect the value of the oil and gas, to the various valuation methods appropriate to different circumstances, and to the forms in which oil properties occur. The aim here is to help close that gap, especially for the younger engineers, with a review of the meaning and scope of valuation in the oil business, the factors which enter a valuation, and the methods of applying these. Questions which arise in valuation practice and the avenues of solution are discussed rather than efforts, in these days of rapid changes, to provide specific answers and detailed lists of equip ment costs. And thanks should be recorded here to H. K. Armstrong, Ernest K. Parks, and Robert Moore, who have done much to improve the original manuscript of this book. PAUL PAINE LOS ANGELES, CALIF. August, 1942 Contents include: CHAPTER I: THE SCOPE OF VALUATION Introduction Meaning of value Purpose The specific date Classes of valuations Valuation methods Relation of the appraiser to his employer. CHAPTER I: THE SCOPE OF VALUATION. The petroleum industry is the one circus bigger inside the canvas than on the posters. Sketches in Crude Oil, by JOHN J. McLAURiN The principal factors in the valuation of a producing oil property are the estimates of 1 the recoverable oil 2 the profits to be ob tained from the extraction of this oil 3 the resulting values under various conditions. The value of nonproducing acreage is more simply ascertained. This work is concerned with these topics, with less emphasis on the subject of estimating the oil reserves. Most of the recorded study relating to the subject has been directed toward the estimation of the recoverable oil and gas, called the oil and gas reserves, and has had its inception in tax situations and the accom panying accounting matters. The derivation of the worth of these reserves, expressed in dollars, has received less attention. However, the dollar values of oil properties have been of concern to the leaders in the industry since its beginning. Before Colonel Drake put down the first successful well that was drilled for oil in the United States, he prevailed upon the landowners to reduce the royalty rate to one-third of that stipulated originally in the lease...

Few subjects have generated as much emotional dialogue around conflicting scientific and policy agendas as the protection and management of Pacific salmon resources. In this major new work, esteemed fisheries expert Thomas Quinn distils from the vast scientific literature the essential information on the behaviour and ecology of Pacific salmon, including steelhead and cutthroat trout. Unlike other books that examine only selected life stages, habitats, or species, this book - richly illustrated with beautiful photographs and original drawings - thoroughly covers the complete life cycle, emphasizing common themes and differences among the various species of salmon. Representing the range of species and geographic regions, Quinn includes examples from classic studies by pioneers of salmon biology and from the most current research to illustrate the important features of salmon life history and behaviour and the complex physical, biological, and human factors that affect them. "The Behavior and Ecology of Pacific Salmon and Trout" introduces salmon and trout as a group, with a brief description of each species, and compares them to other fishes. This book then follows salmon on their amazing homeward migration from the open ocean, through the complex coastal waters, and upstream to the precise location where they were spawned years earlier. It explains the patterns of mate choice, the competition for nest sites, and the fate of the salmon after their death. It describes the lives of offspring during the months they spend incubating in gravel, growing in fresh water, and migrating out to sea to mature. Quinn emphasizes the importance of salmon to humans and to natural ecosystems and the need to integrate sound biology into conservation efforts. This thorough, up-to-date survey should be on the shelf of anyone with a professional or personal interest in Pacific salmon and trout. Written in a technically accurate but engaging style, it will appeal to a wide range of readers, including students, anglers, biologists, conservationists, legislators, and armchair naturalists.

For more than half a century, Carlo Levi's unforgettable memoir, Christ Stopped at Eboli, has nourished an image of Basilicata as an impoverished, desolate and inaccessible region--to the point where this image has instilled a deeply rooted prejudice. It is seen as a land so hostile and wild that all are discouraged from penetrating it. In truth, few people know that, today, this small southern region (with a population of 600,000--less than some neighborhoods in Rome) is potentially one of the richest areas of Italy, if not all of Europe. An internal gross produce higher than central Italy's, a birthrate of new business ventures comparable to some of Italy's most developed areas, and the complete absence of organized crime have transformed Basilicata (or Lucania, the city's ancient Latin name) into a kind of oasis in southern Italy. The reason behind this rash growth is the discovery of crude oil in the small town of Aliano. In Val d'Agri, two of the biggest oil deposits in the world contain enough "black gold" to cover at least ten percent of the national requisite, with an energy savings of at least 15 million Euros. The discovery, which took place in 1990 but was not officially announced until years later, is inciting a bona fide revolution-- both psychological and socio-economic--as well as conflicts between those with delusions of instant wealth and others concerned about environmental damage. Oil, Miracles and Stones chronicles the clash between those who seek instant riches and those determined to preserve the integrity of their land.

Oil field chemicals are gaining increasing importance, as the resources of crude oil are decreasing. An increasing demand of more sophisticated methods in the exploitation of the natural resources emerges for this reason. This book reviews the progress in the area of oil field chemicals and additives of the last decade from a rather chemical view. The material presented is a compilation from the literature by screening critically approximately 20,000 references. The text is ordered according to applications, just in the way how the jobs are emerging in practice. It starts with drilling, goes to productions and ends with oil spill. Several chemicals are used in multiple disciplines, and to those separate chapters are devoted. Two index registers are available, an index of chemical substances and a general index. * Gives an introduction to the chemically orientated petroleum engineer.* Provides the petroleum engineer involved with research and development with a quick reference tool. * Covers interdisciplinary matter, i.e. connects petroleum recovery and handling with chemical aspects.

Although it is usually assumed that Native Americans have lost their cultural identity through modernization, some peoples have proved otherwise. Brian Hosmer explores what happened when cultural identity and economic opportunity converged among two Native American communities that used community-based industries to both generate income and sustain their cultures. Comparing a lumber business run by the Menominees of Wisconsin and a salmon cannery established by British Columbian and Alaskan Tsimshian communities known as Metlakatla, Hosmer reveals how each tribe responded to market and political forces over fifty years. Hosmer's innovative ethnohistory recounts how these Indians used the marketplace to maintain their distinctiveness to a far greater extent than those who became wage earners in the white man's world. Hosmer shows that by selectively incorporating elements of American capitalism into their cultural lives, the Menominees and Metlakatlans came to view modernization less as a threat to their tribal life than as a means for maintaining their independence. These tribes embraced the same market accused of hastening the demise of native societies and became comparatively successful in American terms even as they both honored fundamental values and forged new cultural identities. Over time, these peoples came to understand how the market worked, recognized that the broader economy operated according to market principles, and learned how to adjust to it. Hosmer reveals how their strategies of "purposeful modernization" brought relative economic independence and sometimes the respect and cooperation of local and federal governments, how it helped chart a middle course between unchecked individuality and a communal ethos that might stifle economic development, and how economic development and cultural values ultimately affected one another. American Indians in the Marketplace is a story of adaptation that acknowledges the hardship and suffering common to most Indian-white contact while emphasizing the benefits of selective modernization accompanied by a constant re-invention of tradition. It questions the victim thesis of Native American history and shows that native peoples can meet the challenges of surviving in the larger world.

The price and availability of oil and natural gas affects every American. That's why it is important that the Energy Committee's first hearing of the 110th Congress focused on the global oil situation and its implications for U.S. economic and national security interests. As a nation, we now depend on oil imports to meet sixty percent of our oil needs. Even modest disruptions in the world supply can result in price spikes at the pump, as we have seen in recent years. First, there is little surplus production capacity relative to global demand. Much of the current production is controlled by national oil companies that are often making political rather than economic decisions, and are not making the investments needed to maintain and expand production capacity. This book examines the geopolitical factors surrounding the acquisition of oil supplies.

The recent listing of Pacific salmon under the Endangered S
... Read more
The recent listing of Pacific salmon under the Endangered Species Act has led to substantial interest in the scientific basis for river restoration in the Pacific Northwest. Millions of dollars in state and federal funding have been programmed for habitat restoration efforts to stem the decline of salmon populations in the region. This volume addresses the need for a solid understanding of fluvial processes and aquatic ecology in order to predict both river and salmonid response to restoration projects. In the Pacific Northwest, as in most regions of the United States, we are still learning about the processes that create habitat and river structure, how those processes influence aquatic ecosystems, and how to gauge the response of river systems to both land-use changes and restoration efforts. River systems are still responding to historic changes, and degraded habitat may not be restored successfully if natural conditions are not well understood, particularly if massive changes in watershed hydrology or other processes are the root cause. These issues faced in the development of regional river restoration programs are by no means unique to the Northwest, and so the initiation of a regional program of river restoration provides an opportunity to evaluate the state of river restoration in general. The eighteen chapters of "Restoration of Puget Sound Rivers" - presented by the region's experts at a symposium of the Society for Ecological Restoration - examine geological and geomorphological controls on river and stream characteristics and dynamics, biological aspects of river systems in the region, and the application of fluvial geomorphology, civil engineering, riparian ecology, and aquatic ecology in efforts to restore Puget Sound Rivers. This volume will be of interest to geomorphologists, aquatic biologists, civil engineers, planners, and all those interested in the interface of science and policy in addressing one of the fundamental environmental challenges of the twenty-first century. David R Montgomery is a professor of earth and space sciences at University of Washington. Susan Bolton is a professor of forest resources at University of Washington. Derek B Booth is a research associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at University of Washington and Leslie Wall is a research associate in forest resources at University of Washington. Other contributors include Tim Abbe, Eric Beamer, Timothy Beeschie, Dean Rae Berg, John Bethel, Robert E Bilby, John M Buffington, Brian D Collins, Loveday Conquest, Kevin Fetherston, Martin Fox, Ralph A Haugerud, Lisa Holsinger, Sara M Jensen, Christopher P Konrad, Martin Liermann, John Lombard, Gino Lucchetti, Arthur McKee, Michael J Maki, Dale E Miller, Kathryn Neal, Roger A Nichols, George Pess, Geoffrey C Poole, Stephen C Ralph, Philip Roni, Clare M Ryan, Amir J Sheikh, Peter B Skidmore, Sallie G Sprague, Ashley Steel, Kathy Goetz Troost, and Richard D Woodsmith.

Discover the real truth about the biggest oil deposits in the world and the stunning environmental impact of oil exploration in the spectacular scenery of Alberta's oil country. Concerns about the future supply of conventional oil have attracted new attention to the potential yield from "oil sands." Walking on oil - Alberta's Oil Sands focuses on the Province's crude bitumen oil sands - estimated to be the World's largest hydrocarbon deposits. According to the World Energy Council, Alberta's reserves are estimated to stand at least 1,600 billion barrels. Certain experts claim that Alberta's oil sands contain more petroleum than Saudi Arabia's oil fields and enough resources to supply Canada's energy for more than 475 years or total world energy needs for up to 15 years. But does the World need this oil resource? Alberta's Oil Sands - The Problem and the Conflict: The fuel from the tar sands is thick and heavy and is bound to water and sand. Extraction of the oil and refining it destroys countless miles of irreplaceable forest land and requires enormous amounts of energy and water. Tar sands oil production creates 2 to 3 times as much greenhouse gas as production of conventional oil hence the contribution to global warming. Enormous machinery is used to remove trees, rocks, soil and sand from the earth and once the tar sands are removed, the resulting huge holes in the ground remain along with the toxic water-borne tailings. As the Greenland ice cap melts (and melting is well underway) it may raise ocean levels by 20 feet, flooding major cities and coastlines worldwide. As a world together, we have to make the right decisions about the extraction and use of Alberta's immense oil resource.

In general, Omega 3s coming from animal sources (EPA, DHA)
In general, Omega 3s coming from animal sources (EPA, DHA) have a much higher absorption rate then plant based sources (ALA) with ALA having a conversion efficiency below 5%. It is because of this, that it is essential to get your Omega 3s from varying sources, much of it being animal. It is long been said that fish oil be that source. However, fish oil, is highly susceptible to rancidity and can be damaged in the process of extraction unless tightly monitored. Astaxanthin is a caratenoid produced by the algae Haematoccous pluvialis. When the algae's water supply lowers, astaxanthin serves as protection from nutrient depletion. When the Krill eat the algae, they consume astaxanthin and the oil we extract is also protected. In addition to the stability provided by astaxanthin, Krill oil is attached to a phosphate (phosphatidylcholine), increasing absorption directly into the bloodstream and into the body's tissues. This makes Krill's bioavailability higher then fish oil, meaning you have to take less of it to have the same affect. Hale Inu Krill Oil is the Omega 3 supplement of pro athletes everywhere!

NaturVetSalmon Oil 60 Gelcaps NaturVetSalmon Oil Gel Caps with Omegas 3, 6, and 9, when given daily, help your pet have healthy skin, and a beautiful, glossy coat. Salmon oil gel caps help maintain normal moisture content of skin. Haircoats which are dull, brittle, and dry often respond to supplementation with essential fatty acids, especially Linoleic Acid (LA). It has also been found that in some cases of seborrhea, there is a deficiency of LA in the skin. In these cases, supplements high in LA are useful. The addition of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) is also beneficial in that it would help negate the release of AA from cells damaged because of this skin condition. NaturVet proudly carries the NASC Quality Seal on their products. The NASC Quality Seal is a way for consumers to know that when they buy a product, they buy from a reputable manufacturer that has successfully completed a facility audit. NaturVet received the NASC Quality Seal by meeting or exceeding the most stringent quality and labeling guidelines designed to promote the health and well being of animals that are given animal healthy care supplements by their owners, and to protect and enhance the integrity of the animal supplement industry. Long used in sacred ceremonies and associated with good health, the nutritional and health promoting benefits of olives and olive oils have been proven by an ever-increasing body of science. From cardiovascular benefits to anti-microbial, anti-cancer, antioxidant activity and effects on macrophages and aptoptosis to cellular and pathophysiollogical process, olives and olive oils are proving important in many healthful ways. For example, reactive components in olive oils or olive oil by-products have now been isolated and identified. These include tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid elenolic acid and oleuropein. Oleic acid is the main monosaturated fatty acid of olive oil. These have putative protective effects and modulate the biochemistry of a variety of cell types including those of the vascular system. Some but not all components have been characterised by their putative pharmacological properties. It is possible that usage of these aforementioned products may have beneficial application in other disease. However, in order for this cross-fertilization to take place, a comprehensive understanding of olives and olive oils is required. Finding this knowledge in a single volume provides a key resource for scientists in a variety of food an nutritional roles. Key Features:* Explores olives and olive oil from their general aspects to the detailed level of important micro-and micronutrients * Includes coverage of various methodologies for analysis to help scientists and chemists determine the most appropriate option for their own studies, including those of olive-related compounds in other foods* Relates, in a single volume resource, information for food and nutritional chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, nutritionists and dieticians * Presents information in three key categories: General aspects of olives an olive oils; Nutritional, pharmacological and metabolic properties of olives and olive oil; Specific components of olive oil and their effects on tissue and body systems

Krill oil overcomes the shortcomings of fish oils because of its high levels of antioxidants -- helpful for your health for their own sake. The antioxidants it contains also ensure that the oils don't oxidize and become rancid inside your body* -- important because oxidation leads to the formation of those nasty free radicals. Another Krill Secret Weapon You Should Know About Unlike fish oils, pure krill oil carries omega-3s in the form of phospholipids -- liposomes or little packages -- that deliver the fatty acids directly to your body's cells*. Scientific evidence to date has shown that the safest and most effective carriers of EPA and DHA are these phospholipids. Unfortunately, standard fish oils (and inferior krill oil brands) lack this phospholipid complex. Instead they contain omega-3 fatty acids in the less-beneficial form of free triglycerides.

Fresh Shores Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is made from fresh coconuts -- opened less than 48 hours after they are picked from the trees. These coconuts are grown and processed organically, without potentially harmful fertilizers, additives or chemical solvents. Add Fresh Shores Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to your pet's diet Adding Fresh Shores Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to your pet's diet is one of the smartest things you can do to enhance your pet's life. In contrast, most commercial coconut oils are made from copra, the dried up meat from coconuts. Using the cheaper copra-grade coconut means that the oil extracted may not be sanitary, and, in my opinion, it is not suitable for human consumption. It must not be refined or purified. In fact, this type of inferior coconut oil is called RBD -- refined, bleached and deodorized. Mass-producing coconut oil in this manner typically uses nutrient-removing heat, chemical solvents, bleaching agents and sometimes even hydrogenating processes, which can create trans fats. Fresh Shores Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is made without heat processing. The fresh coconuts are first cold pressed to make a coconut emulsion. After being chilled to help pull out the oils, the milk goes through a centrifuge, where the pure oil spins away from the water layer. This results in a pure and natural, organic, unrefined and highly stable coconut oil. Additionally, blindfolded taste tests confirm this coconut oil to have a fresh and mild, light coconut flavor -- and to consistently beat out other brands in taste. And of course, laboratory analysis continues to confirm the high quality of this extra virgin coconut oil.

Bringing together for the first time most of the available

Bringing together for the first time most of the available biological information on the seven species of Pacific salmon, this comprehensive and fully illustrated volume provides an authoritative reference source on an economically and ecologically significant group. It is an invaluable source of information for students and teachers of fish biology and fisheries science, and professionals in the fishing and aquaculture industries. Pacific salmon are an important biological and economic resource of countries of the North Pacific rim. They are also a unique group of fish possessing unusually complex life histories. There are seven species of Pacific salmon, five occurring on both the North American and Asian continents (sockeye, pink, chum, chinook, and coho) and two (masu and amago) only in Asia. The life cycle of the Pacific salmon begins in the autumn when the adult female deposits eggs which are fertilized in gravel beds in rivers or lakes. The young emerge from the gravel the following spring and will either migrate immediately to salt water or spend one or more years in a river or lake before migrating. Migrations in the ocean are extensive during the feeding and growing phase, covering thousands of kilometres. After one or more years the maturing adults find their way back to their home river, returning to their ancestral breeding grounds to spawn. They die after spawning, and the eggs in the gravel signify the beginning of a new cycle. Upon this theme Pacific salmon have developed many variations, both between and within species. "Pacific Salmon: Life Histories" gives detailed descriptions of the different life phases through which each of the seven species pass. Each chapter is written by a scientist who has spent years studying and observing a particular species of salmon. Some of the topics covered are geographic distribution, transplants, freshwater life, ocean life, development, growth, feeding, diet, migration, and spawning behaviour. The text is richly supplemented by many maps, illustrations, colour plates, and tables and there is a detailed general index, as well as a useful geographic index. "C. Groot is an ethologist who has studied and worked in the field of fish behaviour in the Netherlands and Canada. At the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo, British Columbia, his studies have centred on the migration of Pacific salmon, particularly on how they find their way during long-distance migrations, and on salmonid enhancement research. Recently, he has been appointed Climate Change Co-ordinator to examine the possible impacts that global climate changes may have on the fisheries resources of western Canada. He has also been a visiting professor at Simon Fraser University and at the Bamfield Marine Station. L. Margolis is the senior scientist at the Pacific Biological Station, in Nanaimo and an adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University. Actively engaged for more than thirty-five years in research on Pacific salmon biology, his work has focused on.

Oregano oil is recognized as one of the most powerful and useful natural remedies available today. Studies have proven Oregano Oil to be as effective as prescription antibiotics in the combat of bacterial infections. Yet unlike these toxic drugs Oregano Oil is a safe and healthy alternative, capable of destroying other pathogens that antibiotics cannot fight: viruses, fungi and parasites. It is the number one treatment for colds and flus. It is used for respiratory infections, candida infections, ear infections, foot and nail fungus, acne, cold sores, gum diseases and cavities. International travellers use it as a protection and treatment against parasites and germs, water-borne pathogens and food poisoning. In addition to its Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antifungal and Antiparasitic actions Oregano Oil alleviates pain and inflammation when applied topically to burns, wounds, injuries, sore joints and muscles. It thins and loosens mucous in the sinuses and lungs, and relieves coughing and gas. It is also a powerful antioxidant! Our oil is derived from the finest Wild Mediterranean Oregano plants. They are hand-picked at elevations as high as 10,000 feet, where Carvacrol levels are typically higher. Upon harvesting, the Oregano is carefully dried and steam-distilled using methods that ensure the oil retains its original chemistry, with minimal alteration. The pure Oregano oil is then mixed with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, in a ratio of 1:3. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical procedures of any sort are used. All our oil is British Columbia laboratory test for potency and quality. A current copy of our GC/MS analysis is made available on our website, for you review. Our oil is certified organic.

With fragrant splendor fit for a Pharaoh and deemed more precious than gold, these mysterious oils were cherished by ancient Egyptians for their behavioral effects. It was said that Spikenard stimulates psychic powers. So cherished was Olibanum, used to stimulate the olfactory sense, that it was later bestowed as a gift by three wise men who knew this holy oil as Frankincense. The Egyptians believed Palm to be the revitalizing oil of life and energy. Myrrh was considered a blood stimulant for the body and Juniper Oil was utilized to calm, cool and cleanse. Fo-Ti-Tieng, a sexual stimulant was revered centuries later by the last Emperor of China-its use restricted to the Forbidden City. Lotus Oil used only by Egyptian females was celebrated as the sweetness of women. Translated from hieroglyphs and documented on ancient papyrus, these Seven Sacred Oils comprise the base of Pheromone, the world's most precious perfume. As commissioned by the Chicago Field Museum for their exhibit Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, for the first time in 3,500 years, you can now experience these sensual oils.

Gator Oil is a powerful natural product produced using the healing power of the Alligator. Use both summer and winter for any skin irritation for soothing and faster healing. Why pure Alligator Oil, well, think of how Gators fight over territory in the swamps, leading to severe wounds and even missing limbs. These prehistoric creatures are then able to heal in the nastiest of health conditions. They have a different immune system. Chemists in Louisiana found that blood from the American alligator can successfully destroy 23 strains of bacteria, including strains known to be resistant to antibiotics. Despite their reputation for deadly attacks on humans and pets, alligators are finding their way toward a new role as potential lifesavers in medicine. Biochemists in Louisiana at the 235th national meeting of the American Chemical Society reported that gator blood may provide a source of powerful new antibiotics to help fight infections associated with diabetic ulcers, severe burns, and "superbugs" that are resistant to conventional medication. Recently a National Geographic team that studied crocodiles in Australia and America reported that an antidote in crocodiles and alligators kills bacteria which is normally untreatable with normal antibiotics. The crocodile expert, Dr Adam Britton says they are territorial and often fight each other. When they do, they can lose limbs and are sometimes left with gaping wounds. Regardless of these gruesome injuries and the fact that their environment is conducive to serious infection (and possibly death), the crocodiles heal very fast with minimal infection. That proves that they are immune to bacterial infections. Scientists took blood samples from crocodiles to establish why they don't get sick and found they have what they describe as an "unusual anti-microbic peptide".
