Limited edition re-issue of their 2006 album includes a bonus six track live disc featuring 'A Go Go', 'Cachaca', 'The Tube', 'Amazing Grace', 'Deadzy' and 'What Now'. A group that effortlessly straddles the gap between avant-garde improvisation and accessible groove-based jazz, Medeski, Martin, & Wood have simultaneously earned standings as relentlessly innovative musicians and an enormously popular act. Emerging out of the New York downtown scene in the early '90s, the group soon set out on endless cross-country tours, before returning home to Manhattan to further refine their sound through myriad influential experimentations. One of the "big three" of current jazz guitarists (along with Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell), Scofield's influence grew in the '90s. Possessor of a very distinctive rock-oriented sound that is often a bit distorted, Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, fusion, and soul jazz. He started on guitar while at high school in Connecticut, and from 1970-1973 Scofield studied at Berklee and played in the Boston area. After recording with Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker at Carnegie Hall, Scofield was a member of the Billy Cobham-George Duke band for two years. Universal. 2007.

Repeated Takes is the first general book on the history of the recording industry, covering the entire field from Edison's talking tin foil of 1877 to the age of the compact disc. Michael Chana considers the record as a radically new type of commodity which turned the intangible performance of music into a saleable abject, and describes the upset which this caused in musical culture. He asks: what goes on in a recording studio? How does this affect the music? Do we listen to music differently from our forebears because of reproduction? Repeated Takes relates the growth and development of the industry, both technically and economically; the effects of the microphone on interpretation in both classical and popular music; and the impact of all these factors on musical styles and taste. This highly readable book also traces the connections between the development of recording and the rise of new forms of popular music, and discusses arguments among classical musicians about microphone technique and studio practice.

European version includes one bonus track; Volare (Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blu). 'You cannot go wrong with the Gipsy Kings. Their superlative, near-telepathic musical interplay never fails to produce precise, driving rhythms and wrenchingly soulful balladry.' Billboard. They continue to explore the earthy, acousticbased side of their sound featured on their 2004 Grammy Award-nominated, Craig Street-produced disc, Roots. 'This new album has the same light touch,' declared London's The Guardian, 'with their remarkable guitar work driven on by rousing percussion or accordion, and with just one subtle dash of brass,' on the instantly appealing, dance-floor ready La Tounga. Among the stand-out tracks on Pasajero, their first project with new producer Philippe Eidel, are the aforementioned La Tounga, which has a lively Django Rheinhart feel, and opening cut Si Tu Me Quieres (If You Want Me), which features impassioned vocals, a breathtaking, percussion-driven beat, and an exhortation in the chorus of 'Baile para mi ' (dance for me) an instruction most listeners won't need, since they'll undoubtedly have risen out of their chairs well before the chorus. The Gipsy Kings also do a spirited cover of 'Chan Chan', by veteran Cuban bandleader Compay Segundo, the signature song from Buena Vista Social Club. With the same weathered charm and deep history as their Buena Vista brethren, the Gipsy Kings use the simplest tools to make music that can move your feet, your heart and your soul. The group returns to the United States in February for a national tour that includes another stop at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where they have made several sell-out appearances in the last two decades.
