ABOUT SAROD Next to the Sitar, the Sarod is the most well-known and crucial Indian stringed instrument of classical Indian music in the North region. The peculiar `pick and striking' technique used in playing Sarod enables the instrument to produce a wide range of differentiated rhythmic striking variations. As mentioned above, the strings are not pressed onto the fingerboard with the fingertips, but with the tip of the fingernail. By doing this the player is able to produce the typical metallic echoing sound of the Sarod. This can be intensified by a continuous gliding of the fingernail along the string on the fretless fingerboard. By following this technique the ornaments and micro-intervals are produced that are typical and essential when it comes to Indian music. If you'd like to know more about Sarod, feel free to contact us, we will get back to you as soon as we can! PACKAGE CONTAINS Sarod with Tumba Music Instrument Length: 43 Inches To 45 Inches approx. Zachary Taylor has based his stunning Vihuela design on the instrument that is displayed in the Iglesia de la CompaƱia de JesĆŗs in Quito, Ecuador. A truly remarkable piece, it is thought to be a relic of Saint Mariana de JesĆŗs. Very few existing Vihuelas are known of but the most famous one is the so-called, āGuadalupeā Vihuela in the MusĆ©e Jacquemart-AndrĆ©, in Paris. It was probably made around 1500 by an apprentice luthier or cabinet maker as a test piece. Comparatively large, with a narrow neck suggests that whilst appropriate for playing single-note continuo, it would not be suitable for solo performance repertoire or accompanying a vocalist. Although the body of the Vihuela was shallower and lighter than the modern guitar, the scale length was often much longer. The strings were of gut and silk and the frets, which were tied around the neck, were also of gut. Tied frets represent a strong reference to the original instrument but are sometimes troublesome. Changes in humidity, temperature, and clumsy handling can cause changes in the fret location, making replacement difficult for an inexperienced player. For these reasons, the designer, maker and suppliers decided on metal frets as a standard feature. Customers who prefer the more traditional tied frets may request them to be fitted when an order is placed. With six ācoursesā of strings, the Vihuela has them arranged in pairs and these are usually tuned in unison, although variations were known that used āoctaveā tuning on the lower-pitched strings, similar to the lute. When used in the musical sense, the word ācourseā, refers to more than one single string and possibly as many as three. Music for the Vihuela was written in tablature, as stave notation was not used for fretted strings in those days. Tablature works well, provided the tuning of the strings is known. Many players prefer tablature

This Dunhuang brand Guzheng model includes a beautiful printed landscape scene in a classic Chinese style. The nature scenery is an important cultural theme found in traditional Chinese art. Such landscapes convey the importance of having a harmonious relationship with nature. The mountains have a spiritual undertone because they help people metaphysically speaking reach the highest points of the universe. Two figures in boats depict the rapport between man and sea. This beautiful scene is outlined in a creamy-gold tone border. This Chinese Guzheng is constructed from a type of exotic (Dalbergia) Rosewood from Myanmar masterfully selected by the artisans from Dunhuang. . Rosewood is a hardwood that creates a warm tone when played and offers a nice base. It offers a rich red-ish brown color in appearance. Other materials include: solid brass hinges, strings that are German steel wrapped nylon. Instrument weight: 15.30 lbs. Dimensions: 64" long, 13.5 inches across the bottom, 12" across the top and 2.75" depth. Guzheng, (pronounced 'Goo-Zheng') is a stringed instrument, plucked by hand (often with a pick). Part of the zither family, it is an ancient Chinese musical instrument that dates back to Qin dynasty (before 206 BC). In fact, the first part of the instruments title: "Gu" means 'ancient' in Chinese. Its history goes as far back as the Spring Autumn Warring State Period where it was widely played in Qing State area, and that's why it was previously named Qing Zheng. The body shape of Guzheng is a combination of oblong and oval. The head and tail of Guzheng are fixed with bridges on which strings are lined across, and each string is also supported by a peg (which is movable) so that the pitch of a string can be fixed and adjusted.

The double bowl-shaped body is achieved by edge-gluing together staves of uniformly thin hardwoods bent to a specific shape with no heavy internal bracing to retain its form. The bowl is made of sheesham rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo) that affords a warm, mellow tone.European spruce is used for the soundboard and, in keeping with the design of 16th-Century lutes, its soundhole is a carved rosette in an attractive geometric pattern which is cut into the soundboard itself and is not inlaid of different material. Most exciting is that the soundboard bracing pattern follows bracing used in world-famous Kohno classical guitars. The mahogany neck has a shape is similar to a classical guitar with a 51mm (2 inch) wide nut of ebony. The top of the peg box has a woman's head carved on the top. Using standard steel classical guitar strings, it is tuned like a guitar in e, b, G, D, A, E tuning. If it is to be used for lute music, the 3rd string may be tuned a semi-tone down to F# to enable lute fingering. The guitar is outfitted with smooth-operating gold tuners with black ebonized tuning key buttons. The overall length is 40 1/2" and the scale length is 25 3/8", similar to a normal guitar. The Extra Cumbus is approximately 34 inches long. It has NO FRETS. The body is solid wood stave construction. The wood body and neck are inlayed. It has 6 courses of 2 strings each. The Cumbus is a relatively young instrument. It was developed in Istanbul in the early 1900's. The inventor, Zeynel became known as Zeynel Abidin Bey. The famous Ataturk Mustafa Kemal, Turkey's first president, dubbed it Cumbus, pronounced joom-bush. Cumbus is Turkish for revelry, just the mood this instrument inspires. Our Cumbus are imported from the Family shop of Zeynel Abidin on Ataturk Bulvar in Istanbul. The Standard Cumbus is tuned like the Turkish Oud and one step higher than the Arabic Oud. Almost any Oud tuning can be used. SPECIAL NOTE: No Warranty on Strings: Manufacturers recommend that you change the strings on your instrument as soon as you receive it. Your instrument has completed a long journey before it ever begins the final leg to your home. During this time the elements affect the strings and may shorten their lifespan. It occasionally happens that a string will fail during that final leg of the journey. Therefore, it is recommended that you purchase a replacement set of strings and consider changing your strings soon after it arrives. If you are a student you may want to change your strings every 3-4 months. If you are a rock star you may need to change your strings every week. If you store your instrument, you should consider changing the strings when you pick it up again.

Classified as chordophones, Tamburas are in the lute family. Tambura is the southern Indian pronunciation while Tanpura is the name commonly used in northern India. Tamburas are the classical drone lute of Indian music. While they look somewhat like a single toomba sitar, they differ in significant ways. Compared to the sitar, tamburas have fewer strings, no sympathetic strings, no frets, and a moveable bridge used to adjust the pitch. These instruments look as exotic as they sound. Each comes with a hard-sided case. "Scratch & Dent" or "Blemished" products are denoted by a "-2" after the product code. They are New and Unused but are considered Second Quality. This means that there is some esthetic irregularity. The irregularities may include, blisters in the shellac finish, stains, scratches or dents, discoloration in the wood or finish, rust or pitting on metals, imperfect glazes, manufacturer's repairs, or some other mark on the surface. The irregularity does not affect the playability or sound quality of the instrument. As with any scratch & dent offer, these are a great value.Features:
