Co-produced by legendary Allman Brothers audio guru Bud Snyder, Barry's latest CD "Tenacious Grace" is steeped with all the classic rock guitar tones and soul-beckoning Hammond B3. Influences; John Mayer, One Republic, Eric Clapton, Santana and Steve Winwood. At 11 years old while living in Tulsa, Barry's folks bought him his first guitar; a red hollow body Rickenbacker knock-off. Played it through a small Kalamazoo 12 inch speaker amp. He studied under a local country music artist, learning hits like "Heart of Gold", "Day Tripper" and "Boy Named Sue". After a couple of years the family moved to Florida. Barry parked the guitar to the side for the drums, which his dad bought from a starving University of Florida student. It was a Ludwig kit with a white pearl finish and some great Zildjian cymbals. But all the while he'd pick up his guitar and keep at it. In high school, he started playing and singing in church bands and vocal ensembles, performing for churches, youth groups, prisons and various state facilities throughout Florida, and even churches as far away as England. This was the catalyst that inspired Barry to move overseas, eventually to Amsterdam, Holland where he lived for several years, touring throughout Europe, Thailand and the US. Barry has performed in a lot of interesting venues; Dutch National television, Belgian National radio, from South East Asian refugee camps to stages and streets all over Europe and the US. The early 50s saw Jackson signed to the Dot label where he cut a vast number of square dance sides of which a good sample can be found here. Although he could play in almost any style (he had a great love for jazz, especially the fiddle playing of Stephane Grappelli) on the records he made for Dot he kept the playing straight and to the point - you can hear the tune as it was originally meant to be heard with little or no ornamentation - and aspiring fiddlers soaked up his recordings like a sponge. These recordings were also made at a time when almost no new fiddle records were being made. No wonder Jacksons recordings were so admired by young players who had not been swept up by Rock and Roll. In fact its safe to say that Tommy Jackson really helped to keep fiddle music alive during those lean years.
