In the retro-designed National Reso-Lectric a mahogany body combines with a nicely figured Eastern hard rock maple veneer top. Its solid inverted (slimmer as it rises) peghead displays a pearloid overlay with a baby blue, gold and black crest which bears the legend "Reso-," "National," "Phonic" complete with 3 art deco spears (short-long-short) running through the crest. Mounted on a gorgeous creme-black bordered grained ivoroid pickguard (that bears its own smaller crest and spears) is a black single coil P-90 pickup in the neck position. Above and to the left of that pickup are three old-style chicken-beak black knobs as you would see in, say, 1939. In addition you get a high fidelity Highlander IP-1X Piezo pickup in the saddle. Them chicken-beak knobs control the blend, the tone and the volume. The cover plate gleams with manic intensity and features 9 diamonds each made up of 42 holes to allow the intensified acoustic sound to command the room with reso-phonic resplendence. This guitar is known for its extreme versatility, and the sound that emits derives from the hidden hollers of Hell, right at your fingertips to do with as you please. This is an electric guitar for the jaded and the faded - it inspires every player to great expression and the ability to, in a small way, control the world.

Two years in the making ! David Tarnowski the original A/DA owner and designer has brought back his original Flanger ! Mr. Modulation is BACK ! The ADA Flanger is a second generation electronic flanger capable of producing a broad range of sound colorations, dramatically enhancing the effect of any amplified musical instrument, voice or percussive instrument. The term "flanging" refers to the technique of manually varying the speed of two tape recorders independently with the same program material, while mixing down in recording studios. The ADA Flanger electronically simulates varying speed in real time, during the performance. The capabilities of the ADA Flanger are numerous and astounding. Effects such as rotating speakers, chilling vibrato, "jet" sounds, resonance modification, intensified studio flanging and incredible filter matrices, to name a few, suggest that experimentation will certainly find the sound you have been looking for. When two identical signals separated by a short time delay are added together, reinforcements (peaks) and cancellations (notches) occur in the output level. The positions of the peaks and notches are mathematically related to the time delay as can be seen in the graph opposite. The example shows the "comb filter" that occurs at the output of the ADA Flanger at 1 msec time delay. If a 500 Hz signal is introduced into the Flanger at 1 msec delay, it will not be heard at the output. However a 1000 Hz signal will be reinforced, thus heard at the output. By changing the time delay, we move the position of the peaks and notches up or down the audio frequency spectrum creating flanging effects. The 2009 Reissue A/DA Flanger is designed by the original designer of the late 1970s A/DA Flangers using very similar parts. The differences between your Reissue Flanger and the original A/DA Flangers are: 1. The Reissue has True Bypass and the originals did not.

ABOUT TAUS Taus means 'peacock' in Persian and is derived from sitar and sarangi. It's body is shaped like a peacock and it is played with a bow. It has a sound hole at the 'tail' portion of the instrument and stands on bird-feet carved in wood. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhs, kept the family trend by creating the instrument which he named the 'taus', which, in Persian, means peacock. Some scholars believe that the sitar was invented in Guru Gobind Singh's time period as well, and that the creation of new instruments was in fashion at that time. The taus is painted in all of the bright shades of the beautiful bird, the peacock, in its sound structure. Its long tail serves the purpose of the finger board of the instrument, upon which nineteen metal frets, elliptical in shape, are tied with cotton or silken cord. The lower portion, the head, carved to look just like the peacock, is covered with hide. The taus is played seated, with a bow. The parts of the bow include a wooden round stick, bow hair of horse tail, a wooden bridge, and a screw. "Walk into most any guitar shop, look at the instruments on display and you'll start to notice how the appearance of the electric guitar has remained relatively unchanged since its advent. In designing and building the Sphears line, I was inspired by the question, "What will the future look and feel like?... only from the point of view of living in the 1950's." I drew on numerous retro-future archetypes from film, architecture and pop culture as well as vintage guitars born of forward-thinking designs and choice of materials. I was inspired by the look and tone of Dan Armstrong plexiglass guitars. The plexi body was certainly forward looking and it gave the guitars great sustain, but the dense material made the guitars heavy and uncomfortable. For the Sphears I decided to use plexi as the core of the body, but I was able to reduce the weight by about 60% by carving out a large portion of the material between the perimeter walls and the solid center block. This had the added benefit of adding a unique acoustic quality to the instruments. Another inspiration for me was the guitars made by Nathan Daniel (Danelectro), with their hollow plywood frame and masonite top and back plates. I tried to bring some of that feeling to the Sphears but I opted to use anodized aluminum tone plates to give it a sleek skin. It's a look and material that's consistent with the futuristic yet touch-friendly feeling of the MacBook and iPod. The result for me, and I hope for the artists who I design and build for, is something completely different: futuristic but with a pinch of retro - and a guitar they can rely on as a serious tool." - Dennis Fano

Our aim was to achieve the original sound of the UniVibe, having always as reference an Original '69 UniVibe. The result: We dare you to compare it with any UniVibe on the market, even an original ! It is made with the original transistors 2SC828 and carbon comp resistors! Our added twist ! We have added 2 extra internal trimmers. The bigger one initially affects the maximum intensity of the effect, but also dramatically manipulates the sound of the RetroVibe, all the while, maintaining the pedal's true vintage character. The smaller one adjusts the non-existing Level knob on the face of the pedal and it comes set all the way up to the full level capacity. Remember the late sixties? Jimi turning everyone on to wild fuzz stuff? Maybe not. But you don't have to be old enough to be a hippie to get off on this wild pedal. The circuit uses a combination of germanium diode and transistor fuzz generation and a ring modulator to turn simple chords into nutso note combinations and complex chords into incredible noise...and makes solos soar impossibly high. IN:Far right knob controls input (drive) level. Use just enough for fun but not too much if you need less noise during quiet spots. OUT:Output level is on the left Watch out when you turn it up. TONE:Turn to right for mid scoop tone ( mellow)...to left for more mids (aggressive). HINTS:Use simple chords...three notes if possible... or limit voicing to octaves and fifths. This way you let the pedal generate thirds and control the color of the chords. For solos, play at the twelfth fret (double dot) or higher, using the rhythm pickup. This gives you the purest upper octave result with any brand of high octaver. IMPROVEMENTS:The newest Octane has the exact same audio circuit as the older ones, but has a special LED switching system that preserves the true-bypass while adding an LED on/off indicator. Also, this switching system silences the pedal's circuitry while it is in the "off" mode so it doesn't squeal or hiss in the background. Finally, there are two improvements to reduce radio reception, which was a serious problem with the older designs, and the main reason why I discontinued the pedal in the first place. In some cities, the older octanes picked up radio louder than the guitar! WARNING:As with any fuzz, the nuances of the pedal's tone are lost with a distorted amp. Play fuzz boxes on a cleaner setting to hear the tone... this pedal is so distorted that you won't need any more distortion anyway. Like all Z. Vex designs, current flow is low in this circuit, enhancing battery life. Boards are hand soldered and the electronics are tested three times before...

Zachary Taylor has based his stunning Vihuela design on the instrument that is displayed in the Iglesia de la Compañia de Jesús in Quito, Ecuador. A truly remarkable piece, it is thought to be a relic of Saint Mariana de Jesús. Very few existing Vihuelas are known of but the most famous one is the so-called, ‘Guadalupe’ Vihuela in the Musée Jacquemart-André, in Paris. It was probably made around 1500 by an apprentice luthier or cabinet maker as a test piece. Comparatively large, with a narrow neck suggests that whilst appropriate for playing single-note continuo, it would not be suitable for solo performance repertoire or accompanying a vocalist. Although the body of the Vihuela was shallower and lighter than the modern guitar, the scale length was often much longer. The strings were of gut and silk and the frets, which were tied around the neck, were also of gut. Tied frets represent a strong reference to the original instrument but are sometimes troublesome. Changes in humidity, temperature, and clumsy handling can cause changes in the fret location, making replacement difficult for an inexperienced player. For these reasons, the designer, maker and suppliers decided on metal frets as a standard feature. Customers who prefer the more traditional tied frets may request them to be fitted when an order is placed. With six ‘courses’ of strings, the Vihuela has them arranged in pairs and these are usually tuned in unison, although variations were known that used ‘octave’ tuning on the lower-pitched strings, similar to the lute. When used in the musical sense, the word ‘course’, refers to more than one single string and possibly as many as three. Music for the Vihuela was written in tablature, as stave notation was not used for fretted strings in those days. Tablature works well, provided the tuning of the strings is known. The Zachary Taylor designed, Panormo Guitar is a superbly crafted 'Romantic' guitar based on the innovative works of 19th century master luthier Louis Panormo.Panormo was of Italian parentage, born in Paris in 1784 and became a British citizen in 1851 having settled in London to make guitars. He was a confident maker and even called himself 'The only Maker of Guitars in the Spanish Style'. Perhaps he forgot to add 'outside Spain'?Although similar in appearance to the Spanish guitars, Panormo's soundboard technology followed the current thinking at that time. Thin strips of wood called struts were arranged in a fan shape beneath the lower part of the soundboard. The great Torres advanced the development of this system, more of which is noted in the information on the Torres-Taylor Guitar.Those new to the Romantic, or 'Parlour' guitar, as it is sometimes called, may regard it as smaller than their later model offspring – the modern Classical guitar. The comparatively short scale of 600mm (about 23½ inches) makes the Romantic guitar accessible for players with smaller hands without restricting those with bigger spans. Modern, master luthier Zachary Taylor based this model's design on several guitars by Panormo. Taylor owned an original and examined many others, including one at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He succeeded in creating a beautiful instrument that reproduces the 'feel' and sound of what players recognize as the 'Romantic' guitar. Machine is a dual frequency-tripler circuit that uses crossover distortion for the first time in any pedal. This pedal basically sounds horrible. It's primary purpose is to cut through. Pedal users in 1999 are very sophisticated. Take the old conventions: of in on the right, out on the left, battery connected when input plug is in place, use this pedal before that one for a certain sound, reverse for another, positive ground, negative ground, pedal switching systems... we're living in a 'been there, done that' pedal world. Most every guitarist is familiar with the limitations of putting one fuzz or distortion into another... losing the detail but perhaps gaining that fun "shutdown" effect as one overloads the other, and the "where's my fuzz?" experience of playing a fuzz into a really dirty amp. Limitations. They increase your creativity but hob-gobble your plan. Zvex designed this new distortion generator, Machine, with some different limitations. Like try playing chords through it. Hmmm. But put it in front of any string of fuzz pedals, and try to make it disappear. Machine is actually a dual frequency-tripler circuit that uses crossover distortion for the first time in any pedal, ever. It generates the distortion of the wave in the sloped part of the cycle, instead of the peaks and valleys like all other distorters and fuzzes. In other words, it distorts when your guitar string is in the middle of vibrating, while it's swinging, not as it's turning around. That's the same place where your speaker cone is sort of coasting, between all the way in and all the way out. Where nothing is happening, this pedal happens. With Machine you can leave your favorite distorting pedals on and still add a new element of energetic grind. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that this pedal basically sounds horrible. It's primary purpose is to cut through. But like a wild man with a machete, it is not nice. Knobs are In, which is drive; Limit, which clips the original...

Do you like to modulate? The Vibro Man packs three kinds of modulating effects into one pedal: Vibrato, tremolo and vibrating filter. The vibrato offers a smooth pitch-varying effect that you can adjust from subtle to radical and everything in between. The tremolo adds beautiful sine-wave tremolo typical of classic tube amps. But by cranking the depth you can get square-wave chopping effects that add more bite to your sound. The best part is that both vibrato and tremolo can be enabled together and controlled by a single speed knob. But if you thought that was enough, the fine folks at Kilpatrick Audio decided it might be fun to be able to switch the vibrato for something a bit more dramatic. The vibrating band-pass filter fits the bill with a high-Q sweeping filter. The depth affects the frequency range of the filter sweeping. And of course it can be used along with the tremolo effect for incredible sounds. All of the effects are produced in stereo, so that you get two synchronized, but different channels which sound great when played through two amps.
