The OCTAVIA is probably our most famous and distinctive creation. This guitar effect was designed in early 1967 and featured on "Purple Haze" and "Fire" by Jimi. It's unique tones can also be heard on such tracks as "One Rainy Wish", "Little Miss Lover", "Little Wing", "Machine Gun" etc. The OCTAVIA produces a sound that is an octave higher than the note you are presently playing. This doubling effect is accomplished through electronic mirror imaging techniques that are program sensitive and also respond to the feedforward inputs of the player. The electronic circuitry is analogue in design and will react faithfully to all the subtleties and harmonic overtones from the guitar. The effect produced is very unique but human in quality. The unit that is manufactured today is representative of the latest evolution of Octavia that Jimi used and contains the feedforward and gating effect that my earlier evolutions lacked. The modern clones today often copy the Tycobrahe unit that in fact was a rip off of my earlier 24 volt versions. These units were not designed to work optimally with 9 volts and in fact you would be buying a clone of a copy so it makes sense to buy a unit from the man who invented it. Electronically the OCTAVIA is an analogue circuit with the properties of a frequency doubler, envelope generator and amplitude modulator with addition frequency shaping filter circuits. The effect produced is subtle to wild depending on the settings used and will respond to the attack of the player. A clean tone from the guitar with say the tone rolled control rolled off will produce "ring modulated" overtones that characterise the solo to "Who knows". The sound is tangibly different if a fuzz unit is in front of the Octavia: an upper octave double is created, clearly demonstrated in the solo to "Purple Haze". Two years in the making ! David Tarnowski the original A/DA owner and designer has brought back his original Flanger ! Mr. Modulation is BACK ! The ADA Flanger is a second generation electronic flanger capable of producing a broad range of sound colorations, dramatically enhancing the effect of any amplified musical instrument, voice or percussive instrument. The term "flanging" refers to the technique of manually varying the speed of two tape recorders independently with the same program material, while mixing down in recording studios. The ADA Flanger electronically simulates varying speed in real time, during the performance. The capabilities of the ADA Flanger are numerous and astounding. Effects such as rotating speakers, chilling vibrato, "jet" sounds, resonance modification, intensified studio flanging and incredible filter matrices, to name a few, suggest that experimentation will certainly find the sound you have been looking for. When two identical signals separated by a short time delay are added together, reinforcements (peaks) and cancellations (notches) occur in the output level. The positions of the peaks and notches are mathematically related to the time delay as can be seen in the graph opposite. The example shows the "comb filter" that occurs at the output of the ADA Flanger at 1 msec time delay. If a 500 Hz signal is introduced into the Flanger at 1 msec delay, it will not be heard at the output. However a 1000 Hz signal will be reinforced, thus heard at the output. By changing the time delay, we move the position of the peaks and notches up or down the audio frequency spectrum creating flanging effects. The 2009 Reissue A/DA Flanger is designed by the original designer of the late 1970s A/DA Flangers using very similar parts. The differences between your Reissue Flanger and the original A/DA Flangers are: 1. The Reissue has True Bypass and the originals did not.

Remember the late sixties? Jimi turning everyone on to wild fuzz stuff? Maybe not. But you don't have to be old enough to be a hippie to get off on this wild pedal. The circuit uses a combination of germanium diode and transistor fuzz generation and a ring modulator to turn simple chords into nutso note combinations and complex chords into incredible noise...and makes solos soar impossibly high. IN:Far right knob controls input (drive) level. Use just enough for fun but not too much if you need less noise during quiet spots. OUT:Output level is on the left Watch out when you turn it up. TONE:Turn to right for mid scoop tone ( mellow)...to left for more mids (aggressive). HINTS:Use simple chords...three notes if possible... or limit voicing to octaves and fifths. This way you let the pedal generate thirds and control the color of the chords. For solos, play at the twelfth fret (double dot) or higher, using the rhythm pickup. This gives you the purest upper octave result with any brand of high octaver. IMPROVEMENTS:The newest Octane has the exact same audio circuit as the older ones, but has a special LED switching system that preserves the true-bypass while adding an LED on/off indicator. Also, this switching system silences the pedal's circuitry while it is in the "off" mode so it doesn't squeal or hiss in the background. Finally, there are two improvements to reduce radio reception, which was a serious problem with the older designs, and the main reason why I discontinued the pedal in the first place. In some cities, the older octanes picked up radio louder than the guitar! WARNING:As with any fuzz, the nuances of the pedal's tone are lost with a distorted amp. Machine is a dual frequency-tripler circuit that uses crossover distortion for the first time in any pedal. This pedal basically sounds horrible. It's primary purpose is to cut through. Pedal users in 1999 are very sophisticated. Take the old conventions: of in on the right, out on the left, battery connected when input plug is in place, use this pedal before that one for a certain sound, reverse for another, positive ground, negative ground, pedal switching systems... we're living in a 'been there, done that' pedal world. Most every guitarist is familiar with the limitations of putting one fuzz or distortion into another... losing the detail but perhaps gaining that fun "shutdown" effect as one overloads the other, and the "where's my fuzz?" experience of playing a fuzz into a really dirty amp. Limitations. They increase your creativity but hob-gobble your plan. Zvex designed this new distortion generator, Machine, with some different limitations. Like try playing chords through it. Hmmm. But put it in front of any string of fuzz pedals, and try to make it disappear. Machine is actually a dual frequency-tripler circuit that uses crossover distortion for the first time in any pedal, ever. It generates the distortion of the wave in the sloped part of the cycle, instead of the peaks and valleys like all other distorters and fuzzes. In other words, it distorts when your guitar string is in the middle of vibrating, while it's swinging, not as it's turning around. That's the same place where your speaker cone is sort of coasting, between all the way in and all the way out. Where nothing is happening, this pedal happens. With Machine you can leave your favorite distorting pedals on and still add a new element of energetic grind. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that this pedal basically sounds horrible. It's primary purpose is to cut through. But like a wild man with a machete, it is not nice. Knobs are In, which is drive; Limit, which clips the original...

The vibrato offers a smooth pitch-varying effect that you can adjust from subtle to radical and everything in between. The tremolo adds beautiful sine-wave tremolo typical of classic tube amps. But by cranking the depth you can get square-wave chopping effects that add more bite to your sound. The best part is that both vibrato and tremolo can be enabled together and controlled by a single speed knob. But if you thought that was enough, the fine folks at Kilpatrick Audio decided it might be fun to be able to switch the vibrato for something a bit more dramatic. The vibrating band-pass filter fits the bill with a high-Q sweeping filter. The depth affects the frequency range of the filter sweeping. All of the effects are produced in stereo, so that you get two synchronized, but different channels which sound great when played through two amps. The Vibro Man is the first Kilpatrick Audio pedal with a touch-sensitive mode. By enabling the Touch footswitch, the depth of each effect reacts to your playing. Each channel features an input gain control for compensating for different pickup types and balancing the level between instruments. Then easily switch between instruments with a touch of the A/B footswitch. Each channel also features a programmable boost. Set the amount of boost for each instrument and then switch between your rhythm and lead volumes and back again with the BOOST footswitch. The unit also features a built-in chromatic tuner with a fast, bright, easy to read display. A tuner button activates the tuner and mutes the outputs for silent tuning. A built-in polarity reverse switch is included along with a sweepable notch filter to subdue feedback without affecting your tone. With the auto reset turned on, the cycle will begin again immediately, creating undulating amplitude modulation and even pulsating tremolo stutter effects at faster decay settings. With the auto-reset turned off, the player determines the exact timing for the beginning of the next cycle.

This circuit features a knob for Boost which allows you to use it as a clean boost push your tube amp into overdrive or to slam into the internal fuzz stages of the pedal yielding those great overdriven fuzz tones without the need for additional pedals. The knobs for Fuzz 1 and Fuzz 2 control each of the individual fuzz circuits and can be used individually or together for a little sonic madness. All 4 stages of the circuit are bypass-able via their respective toggles, meaning you can add/remove from the stack as your black heart desires. The other side of the Blackout Effectors Twosome Dual Fuzz is the Musket. This circuit features one of the most famous fuzz tones in the world with even more muffiness. Overview:The Jonny Octave is an octave-up pedal designed to raise the apparent pitch of single notes on your guitar by one or two octaves. The controls are, from left to right, Octave 2 Volume and Octave 1 Volume. The two switches are, from left to right, Octave 1/Octave 2 selector switch and True Bypass switch. There are also trim pots on the inside for gain stage control which are explained in detail later in this manual. Operation:Plug your guitar into the right-hand input jack. Plug the output into your other effects or your amp. Switch your guitar to the neck (rhythm) pickup and turn it up. Turn on the pedal with the right switch and click the left switch until the yellow LED is on. Turn up the volumes for both octaves to the middle. Play a note at the 12th fret and listen for the octave-up sound... compare with the bypassed sound. Now select the red LED and listen to the 2nd Octave up sound, and compare with 1 Octave up. You might try playing double stops or a lower open string with a high (12th fret area) fifth or third harmony on a neighboring string and enjoy the sub-frequencies generated by the ring-mod action. It is able to pull this off with a 4-way rotary knob called Anger. The different voices of Anger are Classic Scooped Mids, Flat Mids, Mid Hump & Tone Bypass. Besides the usual Gain, Tone and Level knobs, the Diablo has some more interesting controls: FEED affects the amount of bass in the input signal. With the FEED control you can make even the fattest neck humbucker sound clear and transparent or beef up weak pickups a little. The BODY control takes effect on mids and compression. Another important feature is the HEADROOM SWITCH. Set to the "HI" position, an internal electronic voltage doubler is activated - the Diablo runs on 18 Volts from a regular 9 V battery or power supply.
