The Irish Tenor 250 (IT-250) is a short scale tenor designed for playing in the common keys of traditional music. This is an excellent addition to any tenor player's arsenal of instruments. Irish Tenor players have often revered the White Ladye pot for a plunky tone and lasting sustain. This 17 fret model, tuned to GDAE (octave lower than a mandolin) has the power and volume needed for Celtic banjo leads and enough mids to cut through the mix. What do you turn on when you Tenori-On is a collection of 10 live performances on the Tenori-On by King Tet. The Tenori-On is a new experimental electronica musical instrument for the 21st Century invented by Toshio Iwai and Yamaha. There aren't many around and there is not a consensus on how they are to be played but for King Tet this is an instrument he's waited for since he was 10....and he's 52! I can't help that they didn't invent this until I was 52 states King Tet. It finally feels like the year 2000 King Tet says in the year 2008. Part of the charm of the Tenori-On is the ability of the performer to create and upload custom sound banks. King Tet sampled his 1930 Vega Tubaphone banjo for the occasion. The result is "King Tet's Breakdown" which may sound like a jam between a Tenori-On and a banjo player, whereas, the entire track is a live Tenori-On performance. All tracks are live Tenori-On performances without over-dubbing or studio editing. Who is King Tet? Sonny Smith has held his own in the Banjo world. Born in Winchester, Tennessee and growing up in Indiana, Sonny began playing the banjo at the young age of seven. At age ten, Sonny entered his first banjo contest, the Portland, Indiana Tri-State Gas Engine Show. After this first taste of the stage, he knew this is where he wanted to be. From that point on he was addicted to banjo contests, Sonny continued to enter several banjo contests throughout his years growing up. After high school, Sonny skipped the college route and continued to grow as a banjo player in the great state of Texas. There he first entered the National Banjo Competition in 1992, coming home with third place and again in 1997, coming home with second. Finally in 1998, Sonny came out on top and went home with the 1998 National Banjo Champion title. Now, Sonny Smith and Washburn Guitars have collaborated to create his own signature banjo, the B160. His model has been given a wider fretboard to accommodate bigger fingers, the 5th string nut had been moved between the 5th and 6th fret for improved tone, sustain and intonation. Currently, Sonny is spending his stage time in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains at Dolly Parton's Dollywood.
