The Vienna Symphonic Library Brass 1 sound collection includes trumpet, Viennese horn, trombone, tuba, trumpet ensemble (3 players), horn ensemble (4 players), and trombone ensemble (3 players). The 4 soloists are masters of their trade: trumpet player Freddy Staudigl, hornist Marcus Schmidinger, and trombone player Johann Schodl all are foundation members of the renowned ensemble Brassissimo and are not only active with their quintet but also as soloists and orchestral musicians on an international level. The tubist Christoph Kiene is also internationally known as a lecturer. In addition to the existing articulations of the Pro Edition, Brass 1 virtual instrument library provides fast Interval Performances in legato and marcato, Performance Trills, arpeggios (major, minor, and diminished in legato and staccato), and mordents. The virtual trumpet and trombone now offer the complete playing techniques, muted not only as solo instruments, but also in the ensembles. Among the specialties are the trumpet ensemble's "out of tune" sustains, as they happen now and then in real orchestral situations. The 3 trumpet players don't hit the note exactly at the beginninga beat frequency ensues which is corrected as the tone progresses, eventually resulting in a clean homophony. Furthermore, the virtual trumpets feature "rips & falls." And the virtual trombone ensembles offer clusters of 3 notes with half tone intervals, available in staccato (2 variations), sustained, crescendo und diminuendo (in 2 tone lengths), sforzato, and even as Repetition Performances.ArticulationsPerformances:Interval Performances: legato, marcato; slow & fastHorns, tenor trombone: Interval Performance GlissandosRepetition Performances: legato, portato, staccato; crescendo & diminuendoPerformance Repetition upbeats: slow, medium, fastPerformance TrillsSolo instrumentsGrace Note Performances: minor and major 2nd, up and downTrumpets: runsTrumpets, horns, trombonesarpeggios: major, minor, diminished triads; staccato, medium & fastSolo trumpetmordents: legato, 12 variationsTrumpets, horns, trombonesmuted/stopped:Interval PerformancesRepetition Performances: legato, portato, staccatoFast RepetitionsUpbeatsSingle notes:Short notes: staccato and portato with various attacks and note lengthsLong notes: sustains with various attacks and vibratosHorns: blared sustainsDynamics: crescendo & diminuendo in various note lengths, various vibratos; fp, sfz, sffz, pfpSolo instrumentstrills: half tone, whole tone; crescendo & diminuendoFlutter tongues: normal and crescendo variationsTrumpets, horns, trombonesmuted/stopped:Short notes: staccato, short portato, medium portatoSustains and dynamics in various note lengthsFlutter tonguesTrumpet ensemble: out-of-tune-sustains, rips & fallsTrombone ensemble: clusters

With the compact Headway EDB-1 (Sheer Acoustic Equaliser Direct Blend) mega multi-purpose external pre-amplifier box you can completely shape your sound with a 5-band interactive EQ, switchable input impedance, and 3-way range switch. The preamp's controls offer acoustic guitar, bass, or violin settingswhich cut unwanted low end tones below the useable frequency range of the instrument. This cuts body-handling noise, unwanted resonances, feedback, and violin bowing noise. Feedback and other resonance problems may be further tackled by a very effective, broad-ranging tunable notch filter and a phase reverse control. The Headway EDB-1 preamp's inputs provide plenty of options for any amplification you use. Whether using a 1/4" jack, balanced stereo 1/4" jack, or XLR jack for a microphone, the EDB-1 has got you covered. Headway EDB-1 inputs include mono jack, stereo jack and XLR, through 2 channels. The inputs enable you to blend in an extra pickup, or microphone. You can plug into them with 1 or 2 standard mono jack leads, a jack lead plus an XLR, or a stereo jack lead. An unbalanced 1/4" jack would be related to the Channel 1 input. A balanced 1/4" jack relates to the stereo input (using channels 1 and 2), for an instrument using an internal mic and pickup, being blended internally. Channel 2 mic is an XLR input allowing you to use a microphone onstage, if your instrument does not have a pickup. Each channel's input impedance switches allow you to optimize the voicing for any of the major pickup types, while a huge amount of extra levels can be applied via the gain controls and master volume. Phantom power is also available to jack in and XLR inputs, making the unit friendly for use with quality condenser mics and Instruments wired with no battery inside instrument, but with active pickups needing powering. The outputs use a balanced XLR out and a line out jack. If an earth loop is heard causing hum, you may kill it by pressing the earth lift switch. The two outputs also allow you to split the signal, such as between an acoustic combo amp for stage monitoring and an out front mixing desk. The Headway EDB-1 preamp can be mounted on its rubber feet, carried with you on a belt clip. Powering is via two 9v PP3 ( 6F22 ) batteries, or via plug-in DC Power supply.Pro-audio qualityMono/Stereo jacks inputsXLR inputInput impedance switchable to optimize various pickup types3-way Range control selects High Pass Filter/Low-cut settings for guitar, violin, or bass.2 channels5-band interactive EQTunable Notch Filter with variable band width + In/OutPhantom power to Inputs via switchBalanced XLR Line Out (Mix of 2 channels ) + Earth Lift switchJack line out in mono mix of 2 channels.Battery or external DC Plug-in power supplyLow battery indicatorMount via rubber feet, Belt clipWeight: 1-1/2 lb.Dimensions: 5-1/2"D x 3-3/4"W x 1-3/4"H (height includes low-profile knobs)

Introducing the Millennia TD-1 Half-Rack Recording Channel. The TD-1 is a compact yet sophisticated analog channel strip for microphones, electric guitars and basses, acoustic instrument transducers, keyboards, DAWs, and all MIDI systems. TD-1 Twin Direct includes Millennia's acclaimed HV-3 microphone preamplifier, making it an uncompromised front-end for virtually any audio recording application. Some have called the TD-1 a Mini-Origin.Audio engineers no longer need to choose between a tube or solid state front end. TD-1's instrument input employs Twin Topology Millennia's innovative merging of vacuum tube and solid state circuit topologies. TD-1 offers a high voltage 100% vacuum tube instrument amplifier or a transparent 100% discrete F.E.T. solid state instrument amplifier in the same indestructable military-grade chassis. Both topologies can be switch selected and musically tuned via 3 selectable input impedances (470K/2M/10M). Up to 65dB of adjustable microphone and instrument gain is available via front-panel control.A simultaneous pair of patented Reamp outputs allow TD-1 to emulate both Les Paul and Strat pickups (Les Paul himself plays through a Millennia Origin). Reamp causes the guitar amplifier to think it's connected to a high impedance passive guitar pickup, instead of a very low impedance (and much too clean) active tape recorder or digital workstation output. Millennia's uncompromised DIT-01 mic-level DI output transformer (Frequency Response -3 dB @ 3 Hz & 300 kHz) is also included.Recording directly from any guitar amplifier is now possible with Millennia's innovative Speaker Soak technology. Simply connect any parallel speaker output (300W max) and start recording the authentic character of your guitar amplifier output under true dynamic speaker loading. An audiophile-grade headphone output with separate level control is also provided for pre-auditioning.A fully sweepable NSEQ-style parametric equalizer (20 Hz - 25 kHz) provides an unlimited range of adjustable tonality. NSEQ is the same equalizer used by top mastering facilities around the globe. Ultra-transparent NSEQ bands are provided for high-resolution audio sculpting of instruments such as guitars, bass, and keyboards, or artistic and corrective work adding "air" and "punch," removing "mud," and so forth all with the smooth and artifact-free audio qualities for which NSEQ is well respected.Use as much or as little signal processing as you desire. TD-1's main signal path employs 100% discrete circuitry from input to output for critical sonic transparency and wide dynamic range. Switch in any number of additional processing features for enhanced utility and innovative functionality. Useful features such as polarity reversal (on all inputs), relay controlled -20 dB auto-balanced PAD (on all inputs), 3 ground lift switches + isolations (power/input/output), logic-controlled switch mutes, and worldwide internal toroidal power supply (user selectable 100V - 240V) provide enhanced versatility.DISCRETE HYBRID MICROPHONE & INSTRUMENT PREAMPLIFIER (+65 dB Gain - more on rqst)HIGH VOLTAGE 100% VACUUM TUBE INSTRUMENT INPUT + VARIABLE IMPEDANCE (470K to 10M)100% DISCRETE SOLID-STATE INSTRUMENT INPUT + VARIABLE IMPEDANCE (470K to 10M)CLASS-A, 100% DISCRETE, DC-COUPLED LINE OUTPUT AMPLIFIER STAGE (-105 dB NOISE)NSEQ-STYLE FULLY PARAMETRIC DUAL BAND EQUALIZER (FULL SWEEP 20 Hz - 25 kHz)MILLENNIA DIT-01 DI OUTPUT TRANSFORMER (-3 dB @ 3 Hz & 300 kHz)PATENTED REAMP LES PAUL & STRATOCASTER GUITAR SIMULATION OUTPUTS (2)SPEAKER SOAK DIRECT GUITAR AMPLIFIER INPUT TECHNOLOGYINTERNAL 50V & 200V HIGH VOLTAGE AUDIO PATH RAILS (LESS THAN .0005% THD)AUDIOPHILE-GRADE 1/4" HEADPHONE OUTPUT WITH INDIVIDUAL LEVEL CONTROLMUSICALLY RICH VINTAGE DI VACUUM TUBE AVAILABLEINPUT / OUTPUT / POWER GROUND-LIFT SWITCHES ~ TOTAL HUM ELIMINATIONINDESTRUCTIBLE STEEL CHASSIS WITH (removable) LEATHER CARRYING HANDLEEFFORTLESS, LIFELIKE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE AT ALL DYNAMIC LEVELS (+32 dB OUTPUT)OVER

The all-tube amplified Tube-Tech CL 1B Compressor has become to go-to compressor for top studios, producers and engineers. Known for the marvelous sonic characteristics it imparts without making its presence obvious, the CL 1B particularly shines on vocals. The CL 1B also offers the ability to link up to ten units together and a unique attack/release feature, not found on other compressors, that enables two CL 1Bs to provide program-dependent, overall mix compression.Tube-Tech CL 1B Compressor, First Take:All-tube-amplified optocompressorNon-degrading gain reduction elementUnique Fix/Man control allows automatic program-dependent operation Link bus allows up to ten CL 1Bs to be linked togetherBalanced I/O and floating transformersAll-Tube AmpifierThe amplifier consists of two tubes (valves) in push-pull configuration (one ECC 83 as the pre-amp and phase splitter, and one ECC 82 as the output stage), and an output transformer. The power supply for the preamp and phase splitter are stabilized and the heaters of both tubes (valves) are fed with a stabilized DC voltage. The whole amplifier (including input and output transformer) and the power supplies are placed on one PC-board. Both input and output are balanced (600 Ohms) and fully floating. The in/out key switches the compressor in and out without clicks. The side chain is the only part of the compressor that contains semiconductors. They are used for three reasons: First, they do not affect the sound reproduction. Second, they have a high slew rate, which is of importance for the performance of the compressor in regard to how fast it responds to input signals, and third, they don't take up much room. It contains two J-FET quad op-amps, one npn-transistor and one FET-transistor, which handles the signal for the gain-reduction element. Non-Degrading Gain Reduction ElementThe CL 1B differs from many other compressors, in that the gain reduction element is made from a non-semiconductor element, which in itself has a very low harmonic distortion and none of the non-linearity problems involved when using most semiconductor elements. Furthermore there is no long-term degradation of the element thus giving it almost infinite life. This signal processor is placed after the input-transformer of the compressor and followed by an all tube-based amplifier with a gain of 0dB to +30 dB. Thus the signal is not fed through any semiconductor circuitry on its way to the output. Unique Fixed/Manual Attack and Release ControlTo control attack and release, the CL 1B contains two time constants circuits: fixed attack and release times and variable attack and release times. The three position attack/release select switch makes it possible to use these two circuits separately, or combine their functions. This setting (Fix/Man) provides a unique feature not available in other compressors. In the combined mode, the attack- and release controls make it possible to obtain a complex release-time slope that is program dependent. In this state, the attack time always fast, but the release becomes dependent on the input signal. This means that the time it takes for the selected release time to take effect after a peak disappears is determined by the attack setting. That is, the attack control now functions as a delay with the same time range as its normal setting. The more clockwise (longer) the attack control is turned, the longer time before the release control takes over. The more counter clockwise (shorter) the attack control is turned, the shorter time before the release control takes over. This function is valid only if the time of the peak is shorter than the setting of the attack control. If the peak of the program is longer than the setting of the attack control, or if the attack control has reached the full counter clockwise position, it will respond as in the manual mode. The fix/man mode acts as an automatic release function with a constant fast attack time and fast release time for short peaks

The reference-quality Benchmark DAC1 HDR preamplifier bring
... Read more
The reference-quality Benchmark DAC1 HDR preamplifier brings together all the best features and performance of the award-winning DAC1 family with the convenience of intelligent remote control. The all-in-one stereo DAC1 HDR combines some of Benchmark's finest engineering accomplishments into a single preamp: the DAC1 digital-to-analog audio converter with UltraLock clock system, AdvancedUSB computer audio playback (USB DAC) interface, and the legendary HPA2 headphone amplifier. The DAC1 HDR preamp's unique remote control is built around Benchmark's new HDR-VC (High Dynamic Range Volume Control). Benchmark's pro audio product designs have achieved unprecedented sonic purity due to an uncompromising engineering philosophy: eliminate digital distortion artifacts, establish a pristine analog path, and maintain sonic integrity regardless of external factors. The DAC1 HDR continues this tradition of excellence. The DAC1 HDR preamp's remote control solution is an intelligent implementation of dimming and muting. The Dim (quiet) and Soft-Mute settings of the remote control can easily be adjusted independent of the normal volume setting. The DAC1 HDR remembers and recalls your specified 'Dim' setting. This feature is ideal for HDTV users, as it allows you to set your preferred 'Dim' level for commercials, etc. The 'Soft-Mute' function fades down the volume to the 'Dim' level before muting and smoothly raises the volume to the normal level after un-muting. With a generous offering of inputs and outputs, the DAC1 HDR serves as the heart of expansive media and entertainment systems, optimizing the signal path from the various sources to the amplifier. The DAC1 HDR will enhance the audio performance of your digital television, digital cable box, DVD/CD player, computer, music/media server, satellite radio, and any other device with a digital audio output. Also, the HDR-VC will control the pristine path for an analog source, such as a phono stage, FM tuner, iPod, VCR, tape deck, etc. All digital inputs on the DAC1 HDR (including the USB) feature Benchmark's jitter-immune UltraLock clock system. The USB interface operates with Benchmark's AdvancedUSB native 24-bit, 96-kHz USB technology. The DAC1 HDR features a high-current output stage designed to drive even the most difficult loads. Other features include selectable headphone gain ranges and an auto-mute function for muting the main outputs when headphones are being used. HDR-VC High Dynamic Range Volume Control The DAC1 HDR features Benchmark's HDR-VC (High Dynamic Range Volume Control). The HDR-VC is achieved with a custom-built motorized Alps potentiometer. The DAC1 HDR's motor-driven volume control maintains the dynamic range of the converter and audio output. In contrast, digital volume controls reduce dynamic range, and analog volume IC's introduce distortion and noise. The acclaimed DAC1 D-to-A conversion system Recording studios, mastering engineers and audiophiles have grown to rely on Benchmark for critical digital audio conversion for more than 10 years. The superior performance of the award-winning DAC1 has made it the 'Benchmark' of D-to-A converters. With the DAC1 HDR, this built-in state-of-the-art converter will improve the sonic performance of your digital audio sources, including your computer.Jitter-Immune UltraLock Clock System Benchmark's proprietary UltraLock clock system achieves an unprecedented immunity to jitter. Many modern (and expensive) converters suffer from significant jitter-induced distortion, generating nonmusical sideband tones and digital distortion. Benchmark's highly regarded UltraLock clock system ensures that jitter is never a problem, even under extreme conditions. Even in the presence of extremely high input jitter, no jitter-induced artifacts can be detected on the outputs of the DAC1 HDR (using state-of-the-art testing equipment by Audio Precision). UltraLock will block more then 12.5 UI of jitter (@ 1 kHz). The UltraLock clock system easily out

They consistently find themselves engaged in the music in a way that is rarely achieved with digital converters.Benchmark has achieved unprecedented sonic purity in their converters through intelligent engineering, eliminating digital distortion artifacts, and maintaining a pristine analog delivery path. The DAC1 USB continues this tradition of excellence.Preserving the Classic Benchmark DAC1 Heritage The pristine audio path of the award-winning Classic DAC1 has made it the 'Benchmark' of standalone D-to-A converters. The DAC1 USB preserves the exact topology of the audio path of the Classic DAC1, while adding some of the most frequently requested features. The DAC1 USB includes Benchmark's jitter-immune UltraLock clock system and Benchmark's 0-ohm HPA2 headphone amplifier. The DAC1 USB features Benchmarks AdvancedUSB technology to ensure bit-transparent, high-resolution playback directly from your computer. The DAC1 USB also includes a programmable mute function that automatically mutes the main outputs upon insertion of a headphone plug. Other features that are exclusive to the DAC1 USB include a programmable headphone gain range, an automatic 'Standby' feature, and a high-current output stage designed to drive even the most difficult loads.Jitter-Immune UltraLock Digital interconnect cables, electromagnetic interference, and many other variables introduce jitter into the digital audio. Jitter presents a major problem to most D-to-A converters. Jitter is a type of clock error that, if not properly addressed, can cause the D-to-A to misfire. The result of these misfires is a nonmusical, digital distortion. Many modern (and expensive) converters suffer from severe jitter-induced distortion. Jitter is NOT a problem for the DAC1 USB, which achieve jitter immunity by utilizing the proprietary UltraLock clock-recovery system. With the UltraLock clock-recovery system, the digital-to-analog conversion-clock in the DAC1 USB is totally isolated from the clock of the digital audio input. This clock-recovery topology outperforms even the most well-designed two-stage PLL designs. Using state-of-the-art Audio Precision testing equipment, no jitter-induced artifacts can be detected with the DAC1 USB. Any signal that can be decoded by the USB or AES/EBU receivers will be reproduced without the addition of any measurable jitter artifacts. The bottom line is this: Benchmark converters will consistently and faithfully deliver truthful audio with no jitter-induced artifacts, no matter what variables are present.AdvancedUSB Audio Technology The USB interface of the DAC1 USB features Benchmark's unique AdvancedUSB technology. This USB interface is completely bit-transparent. In other words, every sample of digital audio is transferred from the computer to the DAC1 USB without modification. The DAC1 USB is natively compatible with Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 and Mac OS X. As a native device, there are no drivers or other invasive software required to install or configure. The DAC1 USB is a true plug-and-play DAC USB, and is designed to begin playback immediately after the unit is connected to a USB port for the first time.Unlike previous native USB audio interfaces, Benchmark's AdvancedUSB Audio technology supports 24-bit audio at sample-rates up to 96 kHz. It is very important to have a 24-bit USB path, even for 16-bit playback, because certain computer-related functions can increase 16-bit audio to 24 bits. If a 16-bit USB DAC is used, 8 bits of every digital audio sample would be truncated. Truncating digital audio causes severe, nonmusical digital distortion. Benchmark's AdvancedUSB interface ensures a full 24-bit digital audio path to avoid truncation distortion.HPA2 Headphone Amplifier The DAC1 USB feature t

Play exquisite sparkling acoustic grand piano, smooth classic Rhodes Electric Piano, swirling Hammond B-3 Organ, oscillating Wurlitzer Organ, and cavernous cathedral pipe organ on your desktop with DSP effects like rotary speaker, wah, chorus, and reverb. This solid, great-sounding sound collection of historically famous keys will soon become your "go to" organ and piano sample library for music demos, TV commercials, film, or when you just want to tickle the keys on your laptop on the plane with your favorite set of headphones. Recorded and programmed for Propellerhead's Reason 3.0 by Greg Giametta.Sampled Hammond B-3 Organ 10 velocity layersThe influence of the Hammond organ can be felt everywhere. On any given radio station there's a good chance you'll hear the B-3. The Hammond is used in all types of music, including gospel, blues, jazz, funk, and rock. Keith Emerson used to take his B-3 and throw it around the stage, ride it like a horse, set it on fire, and stab it. Sampled Old Man Grand Piano 10 velocity layersThe concept of fashioning a keyboard to an instrument with strings, which vibrated when struck by hammers, was possibly conceived around the 14th to 15th century. For the next 250 years, the harpsichord was plucked, rather than struck. The clavichord was responsive to pressure of finger touch, its strings struck by miniature tangents. After the 1867 Paris Exposition, it was apparent that European craftsmen would have to emulate the characteristics the American grand pianos exhibited. German producers rose to the challenge. The piano's heyday lasted until 1914. The grand and upright pianos were mature instruments by 1870. The next 50 years saw mostly cosmetic modifications to the grand casework. Square legs replaced round, etc. Now you can enjoy 2 exquisite virtual acoustic pianos on your computer.Sampled Quasimoto Cathedral Pipes (wood) 10 velocity layersAs one of the oldest instruments still in use, the organ has a long and rich history. The organ dates back to classical antiquity. The earliest organs were hydraulic. The inventor most often credited is Ctesibius of Alexandria, an engineer of the 3rd century BC, who created an instrument called the hydraulis. The hydraulis was common in the Roman Empire, where its immensely loud tone was heard during games and circuses in amphitheaters and processions. Characteristics of this instrument have been inferred from mosaics, paintings, literary references and partial remains, but knowledge of details of its construction remain sparse, and almost nothing is known of the actual music it played. The sound is huge and moving.Sampled Cathedral Pipes (alloy) 10 velocity layersPipes may be classified in several ways, each of which results in a different timbre:by the material they are made of (wood or metal)by the mechanism of sound production (flue pipes vs. reed pipes, also called labial and lingual)by the shape of the pipe (cylindrical, conical, or irregular)by the construction of the ends (open or closed)Because a pipe produces only one pitch at a time, ideally there is at least one pipe for each controlling key or pedal. (Occasionally some pipes, especially in the bass, to save space or material, are rigged to provide multiple pitches like big recorders: this method was employed especially by a few builders in the early 20th century.) Thus, a keyboard with 61 notes would have 61 pipes per rank.Sampled Fender Rhodes Mark II Stage Piano 10 velocity layersThe Rhodes piano was invented in the 1940s by Harold Rhodes, and its principles are derived from both the celesta and the electric guitar. The action is similar to that of a conventional piano, but whereas in a conventional piano each key causes felt-covered hammers to strike sets of strings, in a Rhodes piano rubber-tipped hammers strike tuning fork-like constructions to sound the note. The tuning forks themselves are "unbalanced" or asymmetrical: one arm consists of a short, stiff metal rod (essentially a stiff wire) calle

Performed by: Darren Johnston - trumpet Fred Frith - electric guitar Devin Hoff - bass Larry Ochs - tenor & sopranino saxophones Ches Smith - drums Recorded: Recorded in studio May 16, 2005, Oakland, CA About: Although this is an improvised session, it has that wonderful magic glue that these serious and seasoned musicians are so successful at. Ā« Passing Fields Ā» starts with spacious guitar and sax sounds, but soon the rhythm team kicks into a powerful groove. As Frith locks into the rhythm with some bold noise guitar, both horns spin furiously above. Frith sounds a bit like Sonny Sharrock jamming on an electric Miles session. Each piece explores different combinations of players. While Ā« Dawn and the Flat Irons Ā» begins with haunting trumpet and contrabass, soon the rest of the quintet is simmering along. One of the great things about this disc is that Darren's trumpet and Larry's saxes work so well together, in similar tonal areas. Fred Frith is the perfect middle man, balancing between the horns and rhythm team perfectly, whether dealing in dark colors and shades or occasionally soloing underneath or with the spinning horns. On a few on these pieces, Frith gets a chance to lead and stretch out and turn the quintet inide-out into a strange twisted (prog ?) rock unit. These pieces fall somewhere between Massacre and Material, yet they are still unique in their own way. Great things, fellows ! (BLG, Downtown Music Gallery)
