Price may be an issue for some. Pods are portable, easy to use, and multi-functional! More upsides than down!
I would have been happy with the pink Mini, but my husband got me the 40GM iPod and I gotta say that I love it beyond the telling.
Some people have complained about problems synching with XP, but I didn't have any problems. Loaded right up and let me name it and add playlist immediately. I'm a Mac and an XP girl, so either platforms would work for me. I have heard that the Mac synch is easier, and that wouldn't surprise me at all. A friend who uses XP said it took hours to format her Pod, and suspecting something was wrong, went online and researched. She discovered that it's common for the Pod not to respond when it's finished formatting. Should only take minutes, not hours.
It's light, the design is gorgeous, it's easy to use. The sheer volume of music you can upload to the Pod makes it easy to do away with portable CD players. My favorite feature is the Shuffle. The address book is also fabulous! Makes looking up phone numbers and addresses a breeze! I haven't downloaded any audio books, but plan to for trips this summer.
On the downside, the silver backing scratches very easy. I bought a sleeve for mine and it's protected it well. I recommend a sleeve if you buy a Pod.
The Monster cable for use in the car is hard to disconnect. Mine may have a slight flaw so I don't know if this is common or not. Even with both sides of the plug depressed, it tends to hang on one side and requires a lot of force to remove.
