Weighing in at just 3.6 ounces and showing off in three new shades, iPod mini fits your lifestyle and your bag, whether it be cocktail purse or messenger duffle. The chic, matte anodized aluminum case resists stains and scratches, all the while protecting your iPod mini from, say, the jostle of overzealous paparazzi. Recessed in the case to keep its surface pristine, the 1.67-inch (diagonal) backlit screen displays full song and album titles, artists names and more. And iPod mini lasts up to 18 hours on a single charge(1): enough for a transatlantic flight, the limo ride to your hotel and a few solid hours of boutique shopping. Of course, iPod mini works just as well for your everyday pursuits. With up to 25 minutes of skip protection, you can even walk the dog in style. Minimize

Really upset it's being discontinued

Pros: Really small, but solid. Holds a lot of music.

Cons: Interface is not as intuitive as I'd like. Sleeve an absolute must.

Apple announced this week that it was putting out the new iPod nano -- for about what I paid for my brand-new 6GB mini this February (the week it came out). It's been on the market a whole 7 months, and is being upstaged by some new flash-based iPod! I am depressed.

Audio snobs have said for years that the compression on the mp3's/AAC files have been audibly inferior to analog and CD. I've plugged my iPod into good stereo systems, and can't tell the difference in sound from the original recording. My new Scion xA has a kick-butt stereo system, and I can hear every flaw in the tracks I've transfered into the 'Pod (mostly due to the analog source material), but there's still no difference in sound quality. I consider myself an audiophile, and I don't know what the naysayers are ranting about.
