A visual trip through the Emerald Isle: an unparalleled portrayal of the rural beauty and charm of Ireland.Clusters of white cottages huddled between hills of an unbelievably rich green, villages of a single street, dazzling in their array of color washes and picturesque shop-fronts—such are the villages of Ireland, which to this day are living working communities. The most beautiful of these villages are captured here in Christopher Fitz-Simon’s sensitive commentaries and Hugh Palmer’s evocative photographs. This is a journey full of rural gems, some famous, others less so. Here are the colored coastal villages of Cork, their vibrant houses sloping down to a sea that so many Irish people crossed to found other communities in America. Here too are the stunning medieval churches of Roscommon and Galway; and the villages of Antrim, standing ruggedly in defiance of the northern seas. 285 full-color photographs

A place apart, a land of outstanding beauty and distinction, Provence is nothing less than an earthly paradise. From one of the most famous coastlines in the world, the Cote d'Azur, to the hills and mountains of the Luberon, the variety and culture of its villages are astounding. It is in such small communities as those so beautifully photographed by Hugh Palmer that the true spirit of Provence is to be found. Brilliant sunlight slants across jostling terra-cotta roofs, and great plane trees cast velvety shade across ancient squares where the only sound is that of a moss-covered fountain. The Most Beautiful Villages of Provence stunningly evokes the beauty and spirit of Provence, which has drawn visitors to it from ancient times to the present day. Its enduring charm is here celebrated in Palmer's magnificent photographs of such gems as Riez and its fields of lavender or the mysterious cobbled paths of Crestet. These entrancing places, and many others, make this book a lasting tribute to a magical world. Featuring a special listing of hotels, restaurants, festivals, and markets, this book celebrates a part of the world that has entranced millions. 300 full-color photographs

Clustered around the parish church and green, or winding along an eccentrically curving street, villages are the very embodiment of Englishness. The village inn and the local farm, great houses, humble cottages, and beautiful country gardens speak of a way of life that has developed peacefully since Anglo-Saxon times.History, location, and local building materials have etched the distinct character of each region onto each village. Honey-colored cottages form peaceful Cotswold communities; splendid thatched roofs sweep over eaves and windows in the villages of Hampshire; half-timbering, flint, and limestone give Suffolk hamlets their characteristic appearance; and limestone, sandstone, and millstone grit lend a darker look to those of Yorkshire, Durham, and Northumberland. Grouped by area and subdivided by county—northern, midland, eastern, southern, and western—this is a spectacular celebration of England's picture perfect villages. 285 color photographs.

The loveliest villages created by the indomitable Greek spirit, all set in a landscape of overwhelming magnificence. From the terra cotta and ocher of the Ionian Islands to the brilliant blues and whites of the Aegean, the villages of Greece and its islands are incomparable. The variety of village life and buildings springs from a multitude of histories and influences, yet these towns are all, in their separate ways, quintessentially Greek. From north to south through the mainland and the Peloponnese, from west to east through the islands, there is a mixture of intimacy and grandeur. The Ionian Islands are home to belfried churches, pitched tile roofs, and porticoes, reflecting years of Venetian rule. The flat-roofed white houses of the Cyclades, startling against the blue Aegean sea, seem to express the very essence of Greece. And there are many other gems as well, with ancient temples, sandy bays, and cobbled paths. 285 full-color photographs

This beautiful village seascape art tumbled marble tile mural will surely create a stunning focal point in any room of your home! Our tumbled marble tiles have chiseled edges, appear distressed, and may have pits, show veins and other natural characteristics of the stones. The artwork is softer and has less detail than murals on ceramic. Colors on these stone tiles may vary slightly. If you want a mural that's more vibrant, crisp and with high detail, ceramic is a better choice. Each of our murals are individually handcrafted and made to order. Shipment is typically within 5 business days from receipt of order. In the event of breakage during shipment, replacement tiles will be promptly shipped at no cost. Any commercially available adhesive for tumbled marble tile can be used. An un-sanded grout is required. Mural will need to be sealed before and after grouting with a tumbled marble sealer. Tiles can be cleaned with any household non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge.

The design of the 1970s was distinguished by a strong confluence of creativity and functionalism in furnishing and decor. We already recognize many '70s furniture designs as icons of mid-century modernism-and the proof is the prices they command at fine furniture auctions today.Bony examines the works of international designers whose creations exemplify this period, from the ergonomically-focused designers working in America to the pure design movement in Scandinavia and design innovators in Italy led by Archizoom, Alchymia, and Gaetano Pesce. This indispensable reference book chronicles the period's interior design trends with over 200 photographs focusing on artistic and decorative innovations that created the first intelligent and informed design conversation between two continents.

The Silk Route was an ancient caravan route that began at the Golden Horn in present-day Istanbul and extended through the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia to China and its seaports. It was through this caravan route, perhaps as long ago as the fourth century a.d. that goods of European manufacturers were introduced to remote villages and settlements. Here they were traded for indigenous exotic items such as silk, spices, and the subject of this luxurious and authoritative volume-oriental rugs. Oriental Rugs of the Silk Route, by John B. Gregorian, president of one of the oldest and largest oriental rug institutions in North America, provides an illustrated tour of the modern-day oriental rug-making centers of the Silk Route. A compelling text and stunning color photography complemented by vintage black-and-white images transport you to Middle Eastern villages and cities, revealing the rug-making culture and process there. From colorfully dressed peasants tending sheep, carding wool, and boiling natural dyes in Turkey and India's remote rug-weaving villages and trading centers to the sophisticated showrooms and the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, as well as mosques, temples, restaurants, and homes where beautiful rugs are on display, this visually rich and authoritative volume travels behind the scenes of the mysterious, exotic cultures famous for this centuries-old art form. Chapters cover the history and lore of the Silk Route and the famous weaving centers of India and Turkey, relating stories of the weavers, dyers, and merchants; superstitions; religious symbolism, and Middle Eastern aesthetics. Also included is a wealth of rug examples and information on the rugs themselves, such as rug types, dyes, symbology, weaving techniques, and knots. There is also professional advice for rug buyers: an assessment of the rug-making industry today; a complete guide to evaluating and purchasing a rug; a discussion of buying and trading customs; and helpful tips on negotiating abroad as well as on decorating with oriental rugs throughout the home. A glossary provides definitions of oriental rug terminology, while an appendix rounds out the book with a complete discussion of cleaning and repair. At once a unique journey to the world's finest oriental rug-making centers and an authoritative reference, Oriental Rugs of the Silk Route is captivating, informative reading for beginning and knowledgeable rug enthusiasts and travelers alike.

- A fascinating study of the weaving history of the nomadic tribes of Asia - Illustrated with each tribe's finest work, including many previously unpublished photographs Tribal Rugs is an exploration of one of the most ancient crafts of the world. Beginning with the discovery of the oldest complete rug, which has been dated to the fifth century B.C., the reader is led through the weaving history of the nomadic peoples of Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Each chapter introduces a different group of tribes and illustrates the rugs, carpets, kilims and utilitarian bags attributed to their weavers. Tribal weaving, together with the use of natural vegetable dyes, began its swift decline around the turn of the twentieth century under the twin assaults of civilization and commercialism. This book is both a celebration of the woven legacy left by the tribes and a tribute to the skill and artistry of the women who created these wonderful works of tribal art. It is hoped that it will provide an introduction to the novice and excite the more knowledgeable to further study. The book is illustrated in color throughout with examples of the finest work of each tribe, and the majority of them have been previously unpublished. This is a completely new edition with updated text and many new photographs.

Flatweaves of Turkey reflects the authors’ enthusiasm for kilims and related flat-woven textiles. They consider that those made by mainly nomadic and village women in Turkey have the most varied and innovative designs, and are among the most beautifully colored of all weavings. A wide range of kilim types from diverse regions of Turkey is brilliantly illustrated. The authors have provided an accurate account of the various weaving techniques, with separate sections devoted to the historical importance of textiles, the materials, and the dyes used to obtain the glorious colors of the past. The text is written from the enthusiast-collector’s point of view, rather than from that of the dealer.

Haciendas features traditional and modern hacienda architecture in Mexico and southwestern United States. Sumptuous photography portrays the increasing fascination with hacienda architecture today, as evidenced by the movement to renovate classic adobe homes, the abundance of new hacienda designs, and the inspiration Spanish colonial architecture provides to homeowners, designers, and architects worldwide. The estate hacienda was traditionally the family home for Spanish nobles in the newly settled Mexican territories and included farmed land, orchards, stables, livestock, and servants. These extraordinary homes, many of which are owned by descendants of the original owners, are being meticulously preserved, or carefully transformed, into popular inns and tourist attractions. Today, the style is influencing residences throughout North America. With more than 250 photographs, Linda Leigh Paul presents the best haciendas, representing past and present designs: From large country estates to small adobe hideaways, the rugged beauty, rich color palette, and natural materials of the hacienda are brought to life in a book that is as delightful as a walk through the adobe arches and cool, tiled rooms of a Spanish colonial casa.

The favorite colors of Bijar weavers consist of navy, cherry red, brown, light blue, pink, yellow, ocher, orange, beige and ivory. The late 19th Century Rug (so called Serapis) was of fewer details and softer colors and with time designs became denser with added jewel tone color pallets. The revival of the carpet industry in the late 19th Century was based on the demand of the Western markets, with America in particular. Weavers in Heriz hand knotted were asked to make carpets inspired by the Fereghan Sarouks of higher cost for consumers of more limited budgets. Even though Sarouk carpets changed style later on, Heriz weavers stayed with the geometric pattern till now. However, Heriz was also a center of production of some of the best handmade carpets with both geometric and curvilinear floral patterns.
