Japanese Flowering Apricot, Chinese Plum, Prunus triloba, Rose Tree of China, Tree Seeds Genus: Prunus Species: triloba Common Name: Flowering Almond Other Name: Rose Tree of China Pre-treatment: required Zone Hardiness Cold: 2 Zone Hardiness warm: 7 Height / Spread: 5/3m Plant Type: medium Shrub Growth rate: medium Vegetation type: deciduous Leaf /Flower color: Green/pink DESCRIPTION: In early spring the flowering almond's branches are densely lined with delicate pink blossoms that brighten the landscape. A cold hardy deciduous shrub from China, it attains a rounded mature shape with many vertical and twiggy branches. The single pink flowers open all along the young twigs in early spring, and are sometimes nipped by frosts. Pollinated by bees, the blooms are followed by small red fruits in summer. Leaves emerge just after flowering, becoming mid- to dark green, and are broadly oval with toothed edges, sometimes bearing up to three lobes. Their undersides are a lighter green and hairy. Fall leaf color is typically yellow and gold. Plant flowering almond in full sun to ensure best form, growth and spring flowering. It is best grown in average, fertile soil with no high extremes in pH. Very pretty as an informal hedge or screen, it can be limbed up to form a small tree in a mixed border or as a foundation plant. Since flowering occurs on the previous year's twigs, pruning the shrub after flowering encourages an abundance of branches that will be loaded with blossoms next spring. This plant is terrific to force into bloom in the house during the dreariness of winter. Unfortunately, many pests and diseases can afflict this shrub, however, pruning out diseased and dead wood regularly helps to minimize these problems. Characteristics Bonsai Flowering Shrub Ornamental Fruit Growing Info: Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours Stratification: cold stratify for 60-90 days Germination: sow1 deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed

The Mothers look for a secure house that it fixed to a post, tree, fence or the side of a house. Once they find a safe dwelling (One of our houses) they will begin to build a nest by a remarkable process of scouring for available materials of all kind. Once the nest is completed the Mothers will lay her eggs and protect the nest until the eggs hatch. The mother will then feed the young Nestlings until they are strong enough to make their way out of the house into the real world. Eventually, the mothers will also abandon the house. The owner should clean out the old nest (back wall is easily removable) so that the birds can return the following season to an empty and available house. Product Name: Oregon Iris Latin Name: Iris tenax Type: Flower - Native Color: Purple & White Cycle: Perennial Origin: Native Height: 12-24" Bloom Season: Spring Iris tenax is a species of Iris native to southwestern Washington and northwestern Oregon. It is known as the Tough-leaved Iris or Oregon Iris. It occurs along roadsides and in grasslands and forest openings at low to middle elevations. One subspecies is also known from northern California. Like most irises, it has large and showy flowers. The flowers bloom in mid to late spring and are usually lavender-blue to purple, but blooms in white, yellow, pink, and orchid shades are known to sometimes occur. The leaves are very slender for an iris, seldom over 5 mm broad; the plant is often mistaken for a type of grass when not in bloom. Its rhizomes spread slowly, causing the plant to grow in a tight clump. Its species name (tenax) means "tough" or "tenacious" and is in reference to the strong, fibrous leaves of the plant, which were used by indigenous peoples for braiding into snares and other cordage.

The Kousa Dogwood (Cornus kousa or Benthamidia kousa) is a small deciduous tree 8-12 m tall, native to eastern Asia. Like most dogwoods, it has opposite, simple leaves, which are 4-10 cm long. The tree is extremely showy when in bloom, but what appear to be four petaled white flowers are actually bracts spread open below the cluster of inconspicuous yellow-green flowers. The blossoms appear in late spring, weeks after the tree leafs out. The Kousa Dogwood is sometimes also called Chinese Dogwood, Korean Dogwood, or Japanese Dogwood. The fruit is a globose pink to red compound berry 2-3 cm diameter, though these berries tend to grow larger towards the end of the season and some berry clusters that do not fall from the tree surpass 4 cm. It is edible, a sweet and delicious addition to the tree's ornamental value. The fruit is sometimes used for making wine. Seeds can be collected by putting a piece of paper under the stems and shaking them. The seed pods and some seeds will fall out. They are widely distributed. Most Myosotis species are indigenous to New Zealand, though one or two European species, especially the Wood Forget-me-not, Myosotis sylvatica have been introduced into most of the temperate regions of Europe, Asiaand America. Myosotis scorpioides is also known as scorpion grass due to the spiraling curve of its inflorescence. Myosotis alpestris is the state flower of Alaska. Department of Agronomy Crownvetch, Coronilla varia L., is a cool season, hardy, perennial legume. It is not a true vetch, although it resembles common and hairy vetch. Crownvetch spreads from rhizomes and will form a dense cover. It has been used for soil stabilization and as an ornamental for many years. Adaptation Crownvetch has a wide range of climatic adaptations, but its performance has been superior on well-drained soils. It is tolerant of both low pH and low fertility soils. However, it is highly responsive to lime, phosphorus and potassium. Crownvetch is particularly adapted to road bank stabilization and erosion control. At the present time this seems to be one of the best uses for the plant.

A very unique - almost tropical looking wildflower! The plant itself resembles the top of a pineapple, but instead of a huge fruit, this perennial sends up clusters of flowers! Waxy white and yellow five-petaled stars will bloom after 3 or 4 years of growing if starting from seed.
