Liner Note Authors: John Morthland; Charles McCardell. With 154 tracks spread over ten CDs, this Time Life set collects some of the best songs from modern and contemporary country artists from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and like all the Time Life projects, it's carefully assembled with great remastered sound quality. Among the many highlights in this expansive anthology are Trisha Yearwood's "She's in Love with the Boy," Randy Travis' "Forever and Ever, Amen," Merle Haggard's "If We Make It Through December," and Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," although every song here is a highlight and a modern classic. ~ Steve Leggett

Disc 2 of ALIVE II includes five studio tracks.Kiss: Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley (vocals, guitar); Gene Simmons (vocals, bass); Peter Criss (vocals, drums). Recorded live at the L.A. Forum, Los Angeles, California. Includes liner notes by Robert V. Conte.Digitally remastered by Joseph Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.1975's aptly titled ALIVE! was a breakthrough album for Kiss--finally capturing on tape the indescribable frenzy surrounding the band's legendary live shows. The band reacted to their subsequent world domination by cranking the shows to previously unimagined levels of theatrics and sheer volume. The album's sequel, ALIVE II, captures one of the most bombastic displays in rock's history--every ounce of Kiss' blood-spitting, fire-breathing energy is here. After this thunderous document's historic introduction ("You wanted the best, you got the best!"), the band launches straight into "Detroit Rock City," just one of the many classics whose dramatic power is multiplied in this settin

Liner Note Authors: Joseph Lanza; Charles McCardell.Photographer: Lynn Goldsmith.Frank Zappa once suggested that a fascination with the notion of love is the worst thing that ever happened to Western pop music, but the fact remains that every era has had its ballads and love songs because, well, it's the one subject everyone seems to have a stake in -- be it happy or sad. This massive set collects 150 love songs from the 1980s, and like all the Time Life sets, it comes attractively assembled and with great sound. If the power love ballad was truly born in the 1970s, the decade of the '80s perfected it, and from Phil Collins to Whitney Houston, love has seldom sounded so big and important. ~ Steve Leggett

THE TUNES OF TWO CITIES is the second in a planned trilogy. The Residents set out to show a clashing of two "cultures," The Moles and The Chubbs, beginning with MARK OF THE MOLE. This second installment offers the music of these two cultures, prior to the conflict that flared up and informs all of part one. The album alternates back and forth between the music of the two "cultures." Comprised solely of instrumentals, the band's signature approach of simple melodies and dense, sometimes foreboding landscapes is perfect for this fictitious history.A third installment to resolve this convoluted tale never appeared, though THE BIG BUBBLE ("Part Four Of The Mole Trilogy") presented a band, sharing the name of the album title, which figured in the story. The Residents also embarked on their first large-scale tour in 1982 and '83, taking this work on the road (performances of which are documented on MOLE SHOW, recorded live in Holland).
