When searching for someone to help them reflect upon and improve their lives, people tend to be drawn towards those who are compassionate, committed and wise. This book is aimed at those who recognise these qualities in themselves and wish to develop their capacity to engage with and help others. The authors argue for ways of approaching helping and counselling that are rooted in empathy and commitment, drawing upon the experiences and practice wisdom of youth workers, housing support and hostel workers, the clergy and those working in a religious setting, educators and settlement and community workers. They explore the key characteristics of those who counsel and teach and examine aspects of the helping process, focusing on living life well, knowing and being oneself, relating to others and working to make change possible. This book will be essential reading for students on professional training programmes in youth work, community education, ministry, social care and counselling.

Our Inner Blue Print We all read faces, and we do so from the moment we meet someone. We search the face for clues that help us get a sense of the person to whom we are speaking. Indeed, the face serves as the exterior design of our inner blue print. This blue print gives us immediate insight about what makes people tick and why. It gives us clues about our own personality, our innate abilities and our talents as well. A person s unique traits are readily apparent even at birth. You can see them in the newborn s face as easily as if you were looking at the baby s DNA, where you can find the same data. From a face reader s, or Personologists viewpoint, we genetically inherited tendencies from our parents. However, the home environment and personal circumstances we experience while growing up can provide major influences that heighten or modify both our positive and negative tendencies. Know Thyself Understanding your own traits represents the first step toward becoming the individual you want to be. This book does not claim that the knowledge of face reading will allow you to perform miracles nor does it claim that by using the principles of Personology you magically will transform into a completely fulfilled human being. It does, however, claim to provide an introductory map to assist you on your personal quest toward an understanding of yourself - not for ultimate answers. This will allow you to learn how to relate and communicate with others more effectively. Learning how to identify the traits in your own face allows you to identify the your innate talents and get in touch with who you are, rather than continuing to buy into the belief systems others may have imposed upon you. In a world where many people spend their lives doing things they hate, Personology gives you vital clues about your innate gifts. It s your GPS (global positioning system), acting as a reminder when you drift off course. Simply look at your face to find out where you need to go or what you need to do. For example, the rounded outer rim of the ear indicates a love of music. Individuals with square chins love debate, are good at mediation or enjoy fighting for a cause. Small lines that flare out from the inner corner of the eye suggest an innate ability to write. The eyebrow that flares upwards offers a reminder to go to the theatre or take up drama. Take time out and find a quiet space. Think about the things you enjoy. What thoughts come up? What generates excitement or passion within you? Is it an activity, a favorite place, the aroma of old books, or certain buildings that brings back the nostalgia of times in the past? What were your dreams as a child? Then look at your face and find confirmation there for how you should be spending your time and your energy. The purpose of this book is to introduce you to some of the well-researched personality traits that will help you gain a better understanding of yourself and people throughout the world. To accomplish this goal, study one trait at a time and notice how people with certain traits respond to situations or how they behave. The more you are able to understand and apply the concepts discussed in this book, the greater the chances are that it will help you gain amazing insight into human behavior. It will open a new understanding about what makes people tick and why. You will see people through out the world with a whole new perspective - just by looking at their faces.

The Crusade has begun... "There's an old myth in the Archipelago," he said softly, shaking his head."A legend really...I recall it mentioned a Crusade, but those events happened eight centuries ago...We always thought it was only a story..." It has been nine years since John, Jack, and Charles had their great adventure in the Archipelago of Dreams, and became the caretakers of the Imaginarium Geographica. Now, they have been brought together again to solve a mystery: someone is kidnapping the children of the Archipelago. And their only clue is a mysterious message delivered by a strange girl with artificial wings: "The Crusade has begun." Worse, they discover that all of the legendary Dragonships have disappeared as well. The only chance they have to save the world from a centuries-old plot is to seek out the last of the Dragonships -- the Red Dragon -- in a spectacular journey that takes them from Sir James Barrie's Kensington Gardens to the Underworld of the Greek Titans of myth. With friends both familiar and new, they will travel through an extraordinary landscape where history, myth, and fable blend together to tell the oldest story in the world. And along the way, the Caretakers of the Geographica will discover that great deeds alone do not make heroes, and that growing up may be unavoidable...but growing old doesn't have to be...

Written by three of the most recognized influencers in the Microsoft SharePoint community, this book sheds light on SharePoint Search in the enterprise and focuses solely on Microsoft Search technology. This book is intended for a range of folks from the IT administrator to the developer writing search applications. We span many topics in this book to try to cover the breadth of using, administering, and developing on the SharePoint Search technologies. The developer chapters will be important for the administrator to understand, since developers and administrators have to work together to make Search work. On the flip side, the administrator chapters will be important for developers to understand the architecture and administration of Search because, without this knowledge, writing to the APIs will be more difficult. Most readers will benefit from reading all the chapters in this book. This book covers the breadth of the SharePoint Search technologies from Search Server to Windows SharePoint Services to Office SharePoint Server. We also include information on the latest search technologies coming from Microsoft, including the new federation capabilities, filter pack, and the recently acquired FAST technologies. This book is structured in such a way that you can read it from end to end. The chapters are laid out in such a way that they build on each other, starting with an overview chapter and ending with an API chapter that shows you how to program against all the technology about which you just learned. If you are new to SharePoint, the first few chapters will be important for you to understand and digest before moving on, since the array of search technologies can be overwhelming for someone new to them. For experienced SharePoint readers, the overview chapters are a good refresher to skim through, but you probably can skip right to the detailed chapters, starting with Chapter 3, Planning and Deploying an Enterprise Search Solution. The topics covered include:Introduction to Enterprise Search. Overview of Microsoft Enterprise Search Products. Planning and Deploying an Enterprise Search Solution. Configuring and Administering Search. Searching LOB Systems with the BDC. User Profiles and People Search. Extending Search with Federation. Securing Your Search Results. Customizing the Search Experience. Understanding and Tuning Relevance. Building Applications with the Search API and Web Services. To get the most from this book, you will want a copy of Office SharePoint Server. Windows SharePoint Services or Search Server will work, but you will not have access to all the search capabilities we talk about in the book. One easy way to get an evaluation copy of SharePoint is to download the SharePoint virtual machine from MSDN. You can find a link to the virtual machine on the SharePoint home page at www.microsoft.com/office/sharepoint. This virtual machine, while large, is preconfigured for you so that you can start working with the SharePoint Search technologies without having to install all the software and configure it.

Everything has changed about work except how we go about finding it. Our reliance on the use of traditional job search techniques in a work environment that has dramatically changed is the equivalent of "fighting the last war" with disappointing, even disastrous, results. Most of us sense this, but we don't know what else to do.This book is a clear, concise guide to a new kind of work security, one that is not dependent on any particular job, but on your own capacity to generate work. It offers a compelling rationale for why it is necessary to change your thinking and provides practical steps, supported by real life stores, for taking action. From the Author's Preface: "Several years ago, I did a workshop for a group of Bentley College alumni. Right after we finished lunch, just before we started back again, someone expressed frustration with the inefficiency and wastefulness of traditional job-search practices, and I made the offhand remark, 'If I had my way, people would throw out their resumes and stop networking.' "An electric charge went through the room. Thirty business professionals, some a few years out of college, others farther along in their careers, all of them well-versed in traditional job-search, came alive. "Somebody had actually said out loud what they instinctively knew, that trying to find work the way we currently go about it is unproductive, frustrating, humiliating, and often downright awful. A career expert was telling them that it was not only acceptable but also entirely appropriate for them to feel as they did, and it was as if they heaved a collective sigh of relief. 'Maybe it's not us,' they thought, 'maybe it's the methods themselves that aren't working.' I wished I could have put aside the agenda I planned for the afternoon to pursue the subject with them. What I suspect would have happened is that they would have told me they follow traditional job-search practices because they don't know what else to do. Not being able to answer the question, "What do I do instead?" is the reason people looking for work keep doing the same things and expecting different, less disappointing results. This book was written to answer that question.

This book is for and about the millions of people who are between jobs (code for out of work), have been between jobs, or know of someone who has been. It is about how to navigate the transition from employment-for-life, career development support, and a company-sponsored pension to downsized, outsourced, and replaced. Bill Holland explains the macro-trends that have converged to create an environment of job instability and anxiety, and then moves beyond this context to present specific tactics and techniques that readers can use to stay one step ahead in their careers. More than a manual for job searches and career-building strategies, Are There Any Good Jobs Left? helps readers interpret trends, assess such temptations as leaving the corporate rat race for the entrepreneurial life and considers the ethics of constant networking. Featuring an annotated listing of books and Web sites, the book is not so much an indictment of corporate disloyalty as an explanation of the phenomenon, and a guidebook for anyone faced with job transition, change, or growth in today's turbulent environment. This book is for and about the millions of people who are between jobs (code for out of work), have been between jobs, or know of someone who has been. It is about the transition from employment-for-life, career development support, and a company-sponsored pension to downsized, outsourced, and replaced. It is about managing your career proactively and creatively in an environment where no job is presumed to be permanent. Bill Holland explains the macro-trends that have converged since the heyday of the white-collar worker after World War II to create an environment of job instability and anxiety, and then moves beyond this context to present specific tactics and techniques that readers can use to stay one step ahead in their careers, whether they are senior executives or just starting out.Much more than a manual for job searches and career-building strategies, Are There Any Good Jobs Left? shows readers how to interpret trends (e.g., will this wave of outsourcing affect me?), assess such temptations as leaving the corporate rat race for the entrepreneurial life, and consider the ethics of constant networking. In addition, he explores the dynamics of the increasingly diverse workforce, and the prospects for men, women, and minorities as they all vie for the most attractive positions. Featuring an annotated listing of books and Web sites, Are There Any Good Jobs Left? is not so much an indictment of corporate disloyalty as an explanation of the phenomenon and a guidebook for anyone faced with job transition, change, or growth in today's turbulent environment.

When Sylvia Lawry's brother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late 1930s, she refused to accept the medical wisdom of the day that "nothing could be done." In 1945 Ms. Lawry took the unique step of running a classified ad searching for someone who had been "cured" of multiple sclerosis. When instead she found that respondents were as desperate as she, Ms. Lawry began making plans for what would become one of the nation's largest voluntary health agencies—the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. Courage is the story of one woman's unceasing devotion to her brother and how her dream to end the devastating effects of MS was transformed into one of the most powerful and effective national health organizations in the world, a passion she pursued for more than half a century. It is also the story of medical detective work that has enlisted dedicated scientists in the search for clues to one of the more baffling and stubborn medical mysteries of our time, and of people, especially volunteers, who have become the strength of the Society. Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system, affecting more than two and a half million people and their families throughout the world. Although the cause remains unknown and there is still no cure, research breakthroughs have now led to therapies that can help control and manage the disease, thanks in large part to work supported by the Society. Courage looks into the inner workings of the MS movement and counteracts the common misconception that health agencies are self-serving, seeking only to perpetuate themselves. We hear of countless stories of man's inhumanity to man; Courage celebrates the power of our humanity. With 12 black-and-white photographs.

It is uncluttered yet the interested reader will find most of what they need to know about what psychoanalysis is and is not, with ample links connecting to where to find the rest. The book is exceptionally accessible, balanced and entertaining. There is no need to search any longer as to what to recommend to anyone who wants to orient themselves around this complex field'- Peter Fonagy, Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis, University College, London and Chief Executive, Anna Freud Centre, London A Short Introduction to Psychoanalysis is a down-to-earth guide to arguably the most misunderstood of all the psychological therapies. With reference to contemporary developments in theory and practice, the book explains what psychoanalysis really is, providing the reader with an overview of its: } basic concepts } historical development } main critiques, and } research base. Demonstrating the far reaching influence of psychoanalysis, the authors - all practicing psychoanalysts - describe how its concepts have been applied beyond the consulting room and examine its place within the spectrum of other psychological theories. Whether reading about psychoanalysis as part of an academic course or purely for personal interest, A Short Introduction to Psychoanalysis provides the ideal `way-in' to the subject for new readers. For those who are thinking of becoming a psychoanalyst, the book also provides information on the training process and the structure of the profession.

Caught Between Two Conflicting Worlds ...In her compelling memoir Love from the Other Side, author Carol Shimp tells the fascinating story of her quest to balance her daily life with her strong experiences of the spirit world. Growing up Catholic in the 1950s, Carol went to church, learned self-discipline, and participated in traditional religion. But even as a child, she experienced precognitive dreams and messages which she could not discuss with anyone. The death of her mother inspired Carol to learn more about her gifts, and to find a small group of spiritual seekers. But Carol could not have imagined the journey she would take when the earthbound spirit of someone from her past became a very real presence in her life and in her marriage. Calling on her spirit guides and her support system, Carol navigated dangerous territory, seeking to free herself, her husband, and the unquiet soul who resisted going to the light. Life is never dull in William Biersach's mythical city of Los Angeles. In The Search for Saint Valeria, the third entry in the series, cop-turned-priest Fr. John Baptist and his faithful sidekick, gardener and chronicler, Martin Feeney, are once again on the trail of the unusual and strange. Why is someone stealing discarded religious objects - relics, altars, chalices - from the city's antique shops? And why on earth would modern-day grave robbers want to steal the remains of a 4th century Saint from New Golgotha Cemetery? In this fast-paced story, replete with a cast of memorable characters, a healthy dose of red herrings, and a generous helping of humour, there is always more than meets the eye, whether in means, motives, or methods. What with the hallowed history of the mystery genre, some readers might be tempted to suppose that it has all been done. In his Father Baptist series, William Biersach disproves this notion with a vengeance. These stories are fresh, intricate, vibrant, and a heck of a lot of fun! The Search for Saint Valeria is indeed a noble addition to the canon.

"Laugh. Think. Repeat. Repeatedly. If someone told me this book was this good, I wouldn't have believed them."--Po Bronson, author of What Should I Do With My Life?"Think Don Quixote with a dark sense of humor and a taste for hashish and you begin to grasp Eric Weiner, the modern knight-errant of this mad, sad, wise, and witty quest across four continents. I won't spoil the fun by telling if his mission succeeds, except to say that happiness is reading a book as entertaining as this."--Tony Horwitz, author of Confederates in the AtticPart foreign affairs discourse, part humor, and part twisted self-help guide, The Geography of Bliss takes the listener from America to Iceland to India in search of happiness, or, in the crabby author's case, moments of "un-unhappiness." The book uses a beguiling mixture of travel, psychology, science and humor to investigate not what happiness is, but where it is. Are people in Switzerland happier because it is the most democratic country in the world? Do citizens of Qatar, awash in petrodollars, find joy in all that cash? Is the King of Bhutan a visionary for his initiative to calculate Gross National Happiness? Why is Asheville, North Carolina so damn happy? With engaging wit and surprising insights, Eric Weiner answers those questions and many others, offering travelers of all moods some interesting new ideas for sunnier destinations and dispositions.

As the world deals with increasing complexity -- in issues
... Read more
As the world deals with increasing complexity -- in issues of sustainability, finance, culture and technology -- business and governments are searching for a form of problem solving that can deal with the unprecedented levels of ambiguity and chaos. Traditional "linear thinking" has been disparaged by the popular media as being inadequate for dealing with the global economic crisis. Standard forms of marketing and product development have been rejected by businesses who need to find a way to stay competitive in a global economy. Yet little has been offered as an alternative. It is not enough to demand that someone "be more innovative" without giving him the tools to succeed.Design synthesis is a way of thinking about complicated, multifaceted problems of this scale with a repeatable degree of success. Design synthesis methods can be applied in business, with the goal of producing new and compelling products and services, and they can be applied in government, with the goal of changing culture and bettering society. In both contexts, however, there is a need for speed and for aggressive action. This text is immediately relevant, and is more relevant than ever, as we acknowledge and continually reference a feeling of an impending and massive change. Simply, this text is intended to act as a practitioner's guide to exposing the magic of design. There are three simple goals for this text. The first goal is to present a theory of design synthesis in a simple and concise manner. This theory is based on academic research and discourse, but presented in a way that is clear and valuable to a practicing design manager, designer or design researcher. This theory of design synthesis can then be used to substantiate single methods of synthesis. The second goal is to offer a rationalization of why design synthesis is important, both in a general sense ("why should I care about this at all?") as well as in a more immediate sense ("why should I care about this right now?").The final goal is to present a set of actionable, learnable methods for design synthesis that can be applied to any design problem. Practicing industrial designers, interaction designers, interface designers, and designers of other disciplines can use these methods to make sense of complicated design problems and to move seamlessly from various forms of research to design. The methods can add a systematic sense of rigor to an otherwise subjective, often introspective process.

Examining the science behind everyday predictions—such as why the supermarket sends particular coupons to the appropriate people and how a bank can foretell if someone will default on a loan within a few minutes—this guide explains the basics of what data mining is, details a variety of data mining and techniques, and profiles the key figures behind the data-mining process. After first demonstrating fundamental approaches such as nearest neighbor and association rules, the resource goes on to analyze probabilistic techniques that use Bayes' theorem and artificial intelligence algorithms using neural networks. With chapters on a wide range of topics—from calculating similarity to dealing with uncertainty and modeling the brain—this comprehensive volume reveals how anyone with enough information can get an intimate view of someone's life and what to do about it.

Introduction from the Author Colby College is the kind of small, New England liberal arts school that’s well known and well reputed—as long as you’re talking to someone else who went to a small New England liberal arts school. If you’re from the Midwest, people will think you’re going to a school named for cheese and make never-ending dairy product jokes. For those who are curious, the school is named for Gardiner Colby (not cheese), a wealthy man who saved the school when all its students started getting drafted away to the Civil War. Colby is one of many liberal arts schools that most high school students discover for the first time during their college search. On paper, Colby looks almost identical to many of its neighbors. The school is known for its strong academics, its small classes, and its bucolic beauty. At Colby, it’s perfectly okay to be undecided on your major, your career goal, and even your classes for the first semester. It’s pretty normal to be a biology major one day and a theater major the next, or even both at once. Don’t get worried, though; Colby students aren’t clueless. Typically, we’re just really interested in a vast number of subjects. But this too is typical of New England liberal arts schools. So what sets Colby apart? It’s hard to quantify the subtle differences that influence a person’s choice of college. The best bet, of course, is to visit the school and to read this book. (Oh, come on, you knew that was coming, right?) Most people will tell you that they came to Colby for the people. The academics are stellar, but the friendly students and easy-to-talk-to faculty and administration have hooked more prospective freshmen than anything else. No matter how cold the winters get, and no matter how far you have to drive to go shopping somewhere other than Wal-Mart, the students are optimistic and easy-going. This book offers lots of numbers and facts. It also offers real, live student opinions. There are funny responses, serious thoughts, insider advice, and even a couple of secrets. This book has the numbers and has the facts, but it also tries to include the personalities of Colby’s unique student body. Hopefully you will find it helpful, and good luck with your college search! "What if someone came along who changed not the way you think about everything, but everything about the way you think?" That question is the path that leads us through Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Kofman's award-winning DERRIDA. A film "about" the late philosopher and his work is more than a challenge, but Dick and Ziering Kofman's portrait of the philosopher is a remarkable achievement. Witty and affectionate, while repeatedly exploring the nature of cinema, identity, and even of questions themselves, DERRIDA follows Jacques Derrida from his work to his home as the filmmakers search for the "Derrida" that can be captured on film. This beautifully produced oversize volume presents the complete text of DERRIDA, along with an extensive interview with Jacques Derrida and introductory essays by the filmmakers and by Nicholas Royle. Bullet points: Stunningly designed, full-color throughout A tribute to the life and work of the late philosopher Includes an extensive interview with Jacques Derrida, available only in this volume REVIEW: 'Blissful! A pleasure to watch!"." (Elvis Mitchell, The New York Times) REVIEW: 'Bewitching!"." (Bilge Ebiri, New York Magazine)REVIEW: 'One of the 10 Best Films of 2002."." "The Jens pictures began as an experiment. To photograph a young boy in many of the positions that Andrew Wyeth painted the model Helga; to give someone another identity and photograph them through the transformation. Working exclusively in a small town in Germany, I was also interested in the impulse of Americans like Henry James, to travel to Europe in search of a certain "privileged" landscape only in fact to insert an American inflection. The work evolved into a kind of dance between the two models, between painting and photography, between the exacting detail of photography and all the nuances of sketches and drawings. As a way of keeping track of all these images, I began to clip out the contact prints I liked and to paste them into a book. The volume became something like a log or sketchbook, the antithesis of photography where the viewer sees only the finished and perfected photograph. Here they see hundreds of attempts. Each page compiles years' worth of shots, the same picture taken again and again over time. The camera formats change; the boy's body changes; the light changes. Levels of intimacy change. The boy's sister is added as a substitute for Helga's daughter. The boy grows further away from the soft curves of femininity yet closer in his comfort and collaboration." --Collier Schorr.

There are many guides for academic administrators that explore differing philosophies of administration, theoretical approaches to management and leadership, and new trends in higher education administration. Books such as these can inspire department chairs to develop a major new vision for their discipline or even their entire institution. But in order to make that vision a reality, chairs must know how to excel at the many administrative tasks assigned to them. For instance, how do you cultivate a potential donor for much-needed departmental resources? How do you interview someone when your dean assigns you to a committee searching for an administrator in a different academic area? How do you fire someone? How do you get your department members to work together more harmoniously? How do you keep the people who report to you motivated and capable of seeing the big picture? This book is about the “how” of academic administration. Based on a series of workshops given by the author in the area of faculty and administrative development, each topic deals concisely with the most important information chairs will want to have at their fingertips when faced with a particular challenge or opportunity. Intended to be a ready reference that chairs turn to as needed, this book emphasizes proven solutions over untested theories and stresses what chairs need to know now in order to be most successful in their administrative positions.

A young boy searches for answers. An elderly German woman tends her bees. A family adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides. A girl and her mother pass meaningful moments together. In this slender volume, Chanel Earl explores the many faces of grief, the grief of children, parents, those set to die, and those left behind. This debut collection of tightly written prose weaves together themes of loss and family as well as the hope peculiar to youth. These stories of acceptance and resolve ask questions about love and the beauty of life.

Many programs purport to help a development team manage a project but most of them aren’t very good. Enter FogBugz. This dynamic tool is based on keeping track of a database of cases. At any given time, cases are assigned to one person, who must resolve or forward them to someone else. With FogBugz, cases can be prioritized, documented, sorted, discussed, edited, assigned, estimated, searched, and tracked. And because FogBugz is web-based, everyone on a development team has access to the whole picture, at any given moment. That picture may include everything from customer feature requests, to high-level design discussions, to tiny bug fix details. This book (written under the guidance of the entire FogBugz team) completely describes the ins and outs of the latest version of FogBugz.

Most six-year-olds can't wait to go to school on that first
... Read more
Most six-year-olds can't wait to go to school on that first day in September. It's a sign of coming of age. They get to go to school like the big kids. For an alarmingly large number of these children, however, boredom, anxiety, and fear of learning quickly set in. This happens because societies build schools that achieve much less than they promise, are frustrating for students, and generally fail to help children become adults who can think for themselves. The development of flexible, inquiring minds has rarely been the primary consideration in the design of educational systems. Making students into proper members of society has usually been of much greater concern than developing students who are creative thinkers. Today's schools are organized around yesterday's ideas, needs, and resources. The purpose of this volume is to raise consciousness about the changes needed in the educational system. It is concerned with what is wrong with the educational system and how to improve it. It presents a pragmatic view of what education could be through the use of computer technology -- technology permitting us to pursue the radical notion that children must be allowed to guide their own education because interested learners learn more. Children can and will become voracious learners if they are in charge of their own education. This does not mean letting them play video games all day, but it does mean allowing them to pursue the intellectual goals that interest them, rather than being force-fed knowledge according to someone else's schedule. The school system must face the responsibility of creating learning environments that are so much fun that children cannot wait to get up in the morning and go to school. This volume describes the progress being made at The Institute for the Learning Sciences using computers to provide motivating environments for learning -- environments that enable students to explore new worlds, and learn things by doing them. This technology will allow society to support what is one of the most important parts of a good educational system: the cultivation of individual initiative in students. This text documents the authors' work from the cognitive psychology which underlies it on through to guided tours of a number of the software learning environments they've developed. The CD ROM version of Engines for Education illustrates the types of innovative education software being developed at the Institute for the Learning Sciences at Northwestern University. In addition to providing tours of seven different ILS programs, the CD ROM itself provides an example of a new form of hypermedia system developed at ILS. Containing the complete text of the book with full-text search, the CD ROM enables readers to move fluidly between pages as they would with a traditional book; it also engages the reader through question-answer interactions with the system. Hardware Requirements: Macintosh (not a Macintosh Power PC) with 16M of RAM (13M of free RAM) and a CD ROM Drive. Software Requirements: System 7 (or later version) and Quicktime.

There are those who go to gay bars and salsa clubs with rosaries in their pockets, and who make camp chapels of their living rooms. Others enter churches with love letters hidden in their bags, because their need for God and their need for love refuse to fit into different compartments. But what goodness and righteousness can prevail if you are in love with someone whom you are ecclesiastically not supposed to love? Where is God in a salsa bar?The Queer God introduces a new theology from the margins of sexual deviance and economic exclusion. Its chapters on Bisexual Theology, Sadean holiness, gay worship in Brazil and Queer sainthood mark the search for a different face of God - the Queer God who challenges the oppressive powers of heterosexual orthodoxy, whiteness and global capitalism. Inspired by the transgressive spaces of Latin American spirituality, where the experiences of slum children merge with Queer interpretations of grace and holiness, The Queer God seeks to liberate God from the closet of traditional Christian thought, and to embrace God's part in the lives of gays, lesbians and the poor.Only a theology that dares to be radical can show us the presence of God in our times. The Queer God creates a concept of holiness that overcomes sexual and colonial prejudices and shows how Queer Theology is ultimately the search for God's own deliverance. Using Liberation Theology and Queer Theory, it exposes the sexual roots that underlie all theology, and takes the search for God to new depths of social and sexual exclusion.
