For 2004, the 5 Series is redesigned down to its aluminum wheels for the first time in eight years. BMWs premise for the all-new 5 Series seems to be more: more room, more equipment and more sophisticated technology, including BMWs controversial iDrive computer interface. Unfortunately, the new 5 costs more, too, and it follows the contentious styling theme introduced on BMWs full-size 7 Series.

Five Years of Pure Pleasure

Pros: Handling, appearance, options, size.
Cons: Some aspects of the idrive, cup holders.

I highly recommend this car and will be purchasing my third one later this year.
I bought this car (530i) new a little more than five years ago and have never regretted the purchase. I was very surprised with the other two reviews and wanted to add my two cents. This is my second BMW and will again follow up this car with another.
First this is a beautiful car inside and out. Its a perfect size, not too small and not too big. The seats are very comfortable. The options both standard and ones that I received in the purchased packages were plenty and welcome. The idrive can be cumbersome at times and seems odd at first but it makes more sense after using it for a while and it has good points too.
Although there are many reasons I continue to buy BMW I would say that the biggest reason is the handling. I have yet to find any other vehicle with the same feel.
I have had very few problems with the car. The warranty is terriffic and covers just about everything. My dealer changes my windshield wipers, adds fluids, and replaces burnt out bulbs at no charge during the warranty period. I had problems with the interior wood finish and the heated seats. All were replaced. The car has been off warranty for over a year and I have had no issues since then.
The dealership that I work with treats us exceptionally well. I will be purchasing another 5 series from them this fall.
