The Well Trained Mind is an invalueable resource for anyone considering homeschooling. Written by a homeschooling mother, The Well Trained Mind offers an in-depth plan for educating your child using the classical approach. It is easy to follow and provides the reader with many resources to help you on your homeschooling journey. Each section is divided into the trivium, which refers to three different periods in a child's education. This makes it easy to use this book to follow the classical method. Following each section, a list is given describing exactly what should be taught at each age, and how to schedule out your homeschooling days, months and years. Although I did not read this book as a classical homeschooler, it definitely caused me to consider using the classical method with my own children after seeing how brilliantly this approach teaches children in a sequencial way. I have recommended The Well Trained Mind to many of my friends, whether they homeschool their children or not. I think everyone can benefit from reading it, as it really provides the reader with a blueprint for teaching anyone in a sensible way that will ensure that they will absorb the material being taught, and will strive to learn more out of the sheer joy of learning.
