Yashica's new Zoom 105 camera is so packed with features, some may wonder how it can possibly be so small. Weighing only about nine ounces, the easy-to-use Zoom 105 offers a sophisticated five mode flash system, a super sharp coated Yashica lens, a 10-second self timer and a lot more. Because sharp pictures can only result from a high quality lens, Yashica has equipped the Zoom 105 with a super-sharp 38-105mm power zoom lens. It is specially coated to capture subjects with great detail and bright, beautiful colors. A quick touch zoom lever lets you go from 38mm wide angle to 105 telephoto in an instant. A built-in switch makes it possible to opt for a wide-angle panoramic shot any time in the roll of film.

Good Overall, Spend a Little More for a Better One

Pros: Beautiful color, good lens, lots of features, uses AA batteries, fantastic price, looks cool.
Cons: Short battery life, long wait for flash to charge, a little too many blurry photos
The Bottom Line:
Excellent quality in the pictures with many features at a great price (looks cool, too). Spend a little more for a camera that uses lithium batteries.
I bought this camera after years with a Vivitar point and shoot with a fixed focus lens. Needless to say, when I got the first pictures back I was stunned at the quality. The Yashica took crisply focused photos with brilliant colors, anb I was pleased. The quality was comparable to photos from my brother's slr.
Since then I have taken many photos and have been pleased with most. Indoor shots ocassionally come out blurry even with 400 speed film. The camera is easy to use and its abundant features are not at all confusing. I like the placement of the zoom button on the top right of the rear of the camera so that manipulation with the thumb is easy. If I could change something about the features I would make the self timer feature a button instead of a switch. If you forget to switch it back to regular mode you'll inadvertantly take a self timed picture next time you use the camera.
My one complaint about this camera lies with the batteries. It uses two AA's, which may sound good to the budget conscious but is actually not good. The batteries have a short life span of about six or seven rolls. They also don't charge the flash as quickly as the lithium batteries on other cameras do. After about five rolls with new batteries the flash will take up to seven seconds to charge so many good pictures can be lost. One way to conserve is if you know you won't need the flash, set the camera to the flash off feature.
Overall, I like the camera for the quality of the pictures, ease of use, price, and looks (looks cool). If you're in the market for a 35mm with a medium power lens (38-105) this camera may look like a good buy. I'd say go ahead and spend a little more for one that uses a lithum battery. Those small batteries are more expensive, but with the number of AA's you'll buy using this camera, battery price will come out about the same in the end.
