Pros: Very clear sound even at the lowest volume level. Easy-to-set-up remote. Good Price.
Cons: It doesn't sound like a 100 watt/channel amplifier. All menus are confusing.
I bought this receiver because my onkyo TX-SR302 was defective. Fry's offered me this in exchange and I accepted. Man, I shouldn't. I have a perfect, vivid memory of the way The Lord Of The Rings sounded on my onkyo, and well... this HTR-5730 is quite disappointing. I think this is a good receiver for a person who: a) Is buying a receiver for the first time or b) lives in a very small apartment with unfriendly neighbors. However, Yamaha offers a specially clear, refined sound in each of the 5.1 channels (I've found no use for the sixth) and the 20 digital sound field programs can make (if chosen carefully) CD music sound terrific. The universal remote is a great add, it took me less than 2 minutes to set it up for my TV and DVD player. Now, would I buy a Yamaha HTR-5730 receiver again...? hmmm, no, I don't think so. Try Onkyo.
