Entry level perfection
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Price, color (comes in black and silver), bang for the buck
Cons: Unintuitive menu setup, smaller remote, can't control the bass or tremble from the remote
The Bottom Line:
My advice is if you are looking for an entry level receiver and have your home theatre in a smaller room this is a great buy.
If you find yourself short on cash and just have to buy a receiver the HTR-5730 is a very good choice. For around $200 it offers some nice tweaking options. If spending less then then $300 this receiver should be on everyone's short list.
Specifications
The highlights (you can read the details that epinions has on their website if you want):
1. 5.1 sound
2. Rated at 100 Watt @ 6 ohm per channel
3. Supports dolby digital 5.1 and DTS
First and lasting impressions
One of the major complaints that I have is that there isn't a socket plug in in the back of the receiver, my fault for not knowing this before I bought the yammie. I think that the receiver looks very nice with it's silver color. The sound was ok with the sony speakers I had before but sound much better with the new jbl speakers I just acquired.
Remote
Toshiba made it mandatory to use the remote to set up the receiver. The remote is actually quite awful, it has small buttons, is small, and doesn't have glow in the dark buttons. This isn't a deal breaker considering the price tag. I've found that more expensive electronic home theater equipment had much better remotes, you get what you pay for.
Inputs/Outputs
You can find the inputs/outputs on epinions website but here it is again:
Inputs: RCA (2 Audio Channels) x 6, Digital Coaxial x 1, Digital Optical x 2, Composite (Video) x 4
Outputs: RCA (2 Audio Channels) x 2, Composite (Video) x 2
So if you plan on using at as hub using component connections forget it. Basically for $200 they put as much as they can on sound and less in the remote and input/output areas.
Setup Menu and Settings
The setup menu at first is a bit clumsy, especially the radio tuner part. Once one gets used to the menu it isn't bad. I love the DSP options available with this receiver.
