3YK meets the '50's in this hep-cat racer. Groovy, daddy-o! In the far future as Boss Game Studios sees it, jaded technophiles blend turbocharged racing with the coolest auto styles from the Age of Elvis. The result: some of the most reckless roddin' fun to hit the N64 in many a moon. Given the oodles of racers on our favorite platform, those are high words of praise indeed. Visually, SR64 (formerly Stunt Racer 3000) is an ambitious blend of '50s car kitsch (jumbo grilles, wood paneling) with futuristic roller-coaster action on 12 cleverly designed tracks. The game looks great, especially in the letterboxed high-res mode (you'll need an Expansion Pak). Undergirding the warp-speed hijinks is a rock-solid game engine based in World Driver: Championship, Boss Game's 1999 critical success. Minimize

Realistic Racing game that is not realistic

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: Looks good, good physics, very addictive

Cons: doesn't look good enough, no damage meter, no purchasing of upgrades

Author's Review
Okay here is the deal with this game. It is frustrating and makes you angry at every little turn you take. Then after you play it for about 20 more minutes you learn how to steer your car. Then you learn the courses and then you realize that this game is addicting.
The graphics are very very nice looking, even though it doesn't use the expansion pack (which it should, but uses a cheap letterbox high detail option instead) it still looks fine in the medium detail mode. Now the point of this game of course is to play certain race circuts in towns across the world, and to gain the respect of car manufacturers so that they ask you to be their driver of their highly tuned racecrafts.
The physics involved in this game are very precise, and you find yourself slipping into walls if you do not use the brake button. Unlike in Mario Kart 64 where the brake is non-existent, you need it in this game or you will not go anywhere fast.
After you get good at the tracks and you think that you have mastered this game, it throws you into another circut and you pretty much start all over, against even more difficult opponents.
The one con in this game is that there is no penalty for running into everything on the track. There are not upgrades to be bought, and there is no damage done to your car if you run into walls, even at over 100 mph. That is the one thing that makes this game unrealistic. But all in all it is an addictive game, if you have the patience to learn how to control your car.
