3YK meets the '50's in this hep-cat racer. Groovy, daddy-o! In the far future as Boss Game Studios sees it, jaded technophiles blend turbocharged racing with the coolest auto styles from the Age of Elvis. The result: some of the most reckless roddin' fun to hit the N64 in many a moon. Given the oodles of racers on our favorite platform, those are high words of praise indeed. Visually, SR64 (formerly Stunt Racer 3000) is an ambitious blend of '50s car kitsch (jumbo grilles, wood paneling) with futuristic roller-coaster action on 12 cleverly designed tracks. The game looks great, especially in the letterboxed high-res mode (you'll need an Expansion Pak). Undergirding the warp-speed hijinks is a rock-solid game engine based in World Driver: Championship, Boss Game's 1999 critical success. Minimize

Not Gran Turismo

Author's Rating: Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: real cars, courses are real cities

Cons: simply not as good as Gran Turismo

Author's Review
I chose Nintendo 64 because I honestly felt that it was better than Sony Playstation, and I stand by my view. However, when I purchased N64, I immediately set out to find a good, realistic and exciting racing game. The closest thing I have found is World Driver Championship. The courses include Madrid, Paris, Rome and several other cities. The cars, although not of the trademarked names, are obviously the real things. The cars include the Viper and Porsche.

Regardless, it is nowhere near the quality of Playstations Gran Turismo. GT actually has the names of real cars ranging from the Aston Martin to the simple Hondas. You must get your international drivers license, and earn money on the circuit in order to fix up your car, or to purchase another car. World Driver Championship has none of this. I admit, World Driver Championship is a fun game. However, if you are looking for a game like Gran Turismo for N64, stop now. Such a game does not exist yet.
