The DE-1655 provides voice alerts. A real human voice is used to describe the band detected so that you dont have to look away from the road. The Whistler DE-1655 responds to all types of radar currently in use by police, and provides 360 degree detection of all types of laser guns. The Whistler DE-1655 is immune to the VG-2 detector, and provides alerts when VG-2 is in use. Basic support is included for SWS alerts as well. A signal strength indicator is also provided.

Pros: picks up X,K,KA and laser very well

I bought this product because a friend at work recommended it to me. He also uses the same one. I was a bit skeptical at first because a local police officer came into my drivers ed class and told us that radar detectors were a waste or money. I drive a bit fast at times so I decided that I wanted to try a radar detector. My friend at work set me up with the Whistler 1655 and ever since then I have loved it. It uses voice alerts when it detects X,K,KA and laser in the area. It also has a little meter on it that lets you know how far away the signal is from your car. It also has a small eye on it that allows signals from behind to be picked up as well. I read somewhere that this didn't work very well. It has worked every time for me.
